i play a r/g list and was wondering how do i even win while i am being protected by chasm/chasm lock from a deck with instant speed burn spells. in order to attack with the marit lage token i have to sac/destroy the chasm and then i'm vulnerable to burn. am i supposed to just burn my opponents out with punishing fires behind chasm?
also can i use a thespian's stage to copy a thespian's stage thats a copy of glacial chasm?
i was thinking of buying two fbb french or german taiga (not signed) so my lands deck can be black border.
my problem is that i'm not sure how much they are worth. scg doesn't have any, channel fireball has nm french ones at $250. they are also the same price (or best offer) on ebay from buy it now sellers.
when i check the sold listings on ebay its shows a french one sold for $138.59 and another for $202.50 and thats it. if i'm going to try and buy from local traders should i be offering about $202?
That was my list from the New Jersey SCG Open. I could put together a tourney report if you'd be interested. Also could answer any questions about the list if you have them.
sucks that he got paired up against the one match up that was bad for him, painter.
looking at his mana base, i want to replace a tranquil thicket with a horizon canopy too. i cant believe i didn't see its numerous benefits before:
it doesn't come into play tapped
instead of sitting in hand to protect life from the loam it can sit on the board and protect it.
can easily get it in the graveyard for utility later in the game unlike thicket (have to waste/glacial it)
I can accept the thoughtseize angle. And admittedly $80 was just a high number I picked. I still don't expect to see cheap fetches for long in any case.
come on, these can't be more expensive than the zendikar fetches because they will have a larger print run, the original onslaught run and the judge foils.
Frankly, the numbers are there. It's time to ban Brainstorm. In fact, it's way past time. Wizards knows the community likes to abuse the card and it's a format favorite so they have been reluctant to ban it previously. With enough clamoring from the community, they might do it.
They might not do it since they seem disinterested in making any changes for Legacy, but who knows. They banned the long-overdue-for-a-ban Survival of the Fittest and I didn't think they would do that either.
I've been playing Magic for 20 years (on and off competitively) and Legacy is my favorite format. I've top-8'ed in two Legacy Championships. At this point I don't really have any interest in playing since I know it'll just be Brainstorm after Brainstorm after Brainstorm from my opponents all day.
Show and Tell needs to go too. It's always been too good, just like Survival. Cheating in any cards for 3 mana, in blue, is dumb. It was dumb back in Urza's block too.
here is a post i made on the source in response to a user claiming that if survival were unbanned, 90% of survival decks would be blue.

2/4 non blue survival* (again a wonder in the main)
So about 50% of the survival decks that did make top 8 were non blue (:wg:/ooze combo). What makes you say that if survival would be legal today, most would be blue?
i picked the last 10 large (100+) events before survival was banned and counted the number of survival decks that made top 8 and noted the blue vs non blue ones. note that i didn't count having a main deck wonder or having spell pierce or mindbreak trap in the sideboard as being blue.
look at the total numbers of survival decks in the top 8:
4

those number are not that different than the total number of delver decks in the top 8 at large events such as the most recent:
i know that there are different delver decks (rug, bug, urw) but there were different survival builds too (blue, g/w, ooze combo). the point i'm trying to make is that delver and its flavors are just as dominant as survival was back in its day. instead of banning something from blue tempo decks i'd rather wizards unban some cards the hopes of keeping delver in check and empowering non blue decks. the cards i would like unbanned are:
mind twist - would this even be good without acceleration? survival of the fittest - in the past there was a 50/50 split between blue and non blue survival decks. now that there is more good hate (deathrite, scavenging ooze, abrupt decay ect.) it shouldn't be as good as it used to be. goblin recruiter - i wasn't around for food chain goblins back when it was legal but i did watch channel fireball's banned series videos about goblin recruiter. with the perfect opening hand and no disruption from the opponent, it was great. without food chain online and uncounterable card advantage goblins at the ready it functioned as a regular goblin deck.
because star city games hates the unique names and would rather go by [color] [archtype]. i would hate to see them molest classic names like sligh, suicide black, angry hermit, pros bloom, cocoa pebbles, trix, ect.
During Pro Tour Magic 2015, on August 2, we announced the schedule, locations, and formats for the 2015 Pro Tours. The Constructed format for all Pro Tours in that announcement was Standard.
Since then, we have received comments and concerns from the Magic community regarding this announcement, and the omission of Modern from the 2015 Pro Tour schedule. After evaluating all feedback and after further discussion, we have decided to add Modern to the 2015 Pro Tour schedule.
The Pro Tour in Washington D.C., which will take place from February 6–8 in 2015, will feature Modern Constructed and Booster Draft as the tournament's formats. This is a change from the previous schedule announcement of Standard and Booster Draft.
In addition, the format for Grand Prix Vancouver, taking place February 21–22 in 2015, will be changed from Limited to Modern.
In order to address the community's questions regarding this change and other changes related to the direction of Magic, its formats, and Organized Play, we will also be hosting a CoverItLive chat session on Tuesday, August 26, where Director of Global Brand Marketing Mark Purvis, Senior Director of R&D Aaron Forsythe, and I will answer the community's questions. We will have more details—including the time for when this CoverItLive chat session will take place—later this month.
As always, we appreciate the feedback that you have provided us regarding recent announcements, and we will address the community's questions accordingly.
just another boneheaded move by wizards, but at least they fixed it.
I do not care that Blue might hold 50% of the Meta, but we are starting to get well past this and I do not think that is healthy.
How are you measuring this? I hope you are not looking at three colour decks and counting them as blue. If you do it this way, when you add the percent of decks which run blue, plus the percent of decks which run red, plus the percent of decks which run black etc, you get a total much larger than 100%! 'Percent' means litterally 'per 100' - not 'per some larger number' - so this analysis is dismally flawed.
If you do not understand what I mean, have a look at the older tempo decks like old Thresh lists. Much of it is still recognisable today, but the speed granted by Delver made some significant structural changes to both the style and the format. Pushing older aggressive styles into a very subdued state.
This is modern Legacy, and it's not just Delver! The entire aggro/control distinction is more blurred than years ago. Gone are the days of Zoo! Aggro decks now pack a lot of disruption (see Team America, Maveric, or Jund), while control decks are now very aggressive and dense with threats (see D&T or Stoneblade). Just as pure aggro has all but disapeared, so has traditonal blue control. Now we have Midrange and Tempo instead. Banning Delver is not going to change this.
Fortunatly, we have Miracles as the last true blue control deck, and Burn is also doing very well lately to represent old-style aggro. We are also lucky that there is a competetive prison deck (Lands).
maverick is pretty much dead and buried. things got tough for the deck with terminus getting printed, then there was new and improved graveyard hate (deathrite shaman, rest in peace) then the show stopper was true-name nemesis and the brutal splash damage (-1/-1 effects) that eat maverick alive.
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Sphere of Resistance
1 Primeval Titan
3 Krosan Grip
1 Bojuka Bog
2 Dark Depths
Ben also told me of his deck that the full suite of sideboard Chalice of the Voids were pivotal in winning multiple bad matchups against fast combo decks on the day!
is it worth it to dedicate another 4 sideboard slots for combo? the guy got 1st so i don't know.
My sideboard was: 3x Krosan Grip, 4x Sphere of Resistance, 1x Courser of Kruphix, 1x Oracle of Mul Daya, 1x Primeval Titan, 1x Bojuka Bog, 1x Pithing Needle, 1x Chalice of the Void, 1x Helm of Obedience, and 1x Dark Depths.
I normally see a lot of Deadguy Ale and Death & Taxes, but I didn't end up playing either yesterday so Helm didn't do much. Courser actually won me a game against Storm in conjunction with me finding three Spheres. The true all-star was Primeval Titan though as he made an appearance in games 2 and 3 against Sneak & Show. In game two, my opponent played Show and Tell with Blood Moon already in play. He dropped a Griselbrand and I put in my Titan fetching Karakas and Stage with Krosan Grip mana up. In game three, he landed an early Blood Moon again as he was main decking three of them, but it actually helped me hard cast Titan off my Maze for the last colorless. He ended going the distance as I played Needle on Griselbrand before he accidentally Through the Breached him thinking he could draw 7 cards.
Show and tell with the natural T2 Show and Tell for his choice of fatty with force back up with no cantrips. Why is survival OP again?
Because Survival is more consistent than the magical Christmas land you just described. I'm not convinced that Survival is unsafe in the current environment, but your argument doesn't really support its unbanning.
On topic: I'm surprised the Modern portion of the event only had ~200 people, given that its the inaugural event for the format. If the relative numbers of Legacy and Modern participants remains similar, I feel pretty good about SCGs continued support of Legacy for the near future.
magical christmas land? it happened on camera. there was also a turn 1 emrakul.
why does every argument for survival staying banned always assume that the survival play went first, had it, resolved it, untapped with it, played a G every turn and the opponent has no way to disrupt whatever the survival player is planning to do?
i'm sure that getting crushed by survival can't feel any worse than getting crushed by show and tell decks and it won't be that much higher of a percentage of the format than delver decks.
also can i use a thespian's stage to copy a thespian's stage thats a copy of glacial chasm?
