I've always been a huge supporter of MTGOtraders, so when the time came for me to sell my collection today, it was a no brainer to give them first dibs. The whole transaction was very quick and easy.
I believe that retail store policy does not apply to individuals. So If I had a box, I could sell it internationally since I'm not under the WotC umbrella. So perhaps ebay would be your best bet for that sort of thing.
They're going to go down. Simple reason is that the set isn't technically officially out yet, so a bazillion boxes of it hasn't been opened. Most of what you see on these sites are speculative supply.
Old sleeves (if in a large quantity) usually find second life as draft sleeves or as sleeves for a proxy deck. Otherwise, they'll be used as sleeves in one of my trade binders. If that fails, then they get put into a box somewhere, for eventual use as trade sleeves.
We can't forget that both Jace and Vraska in RtR were preordering between $40-$50. New planeswalkers being at half that value isn't really all that bad. I wasn't that impressed with sorin at the prerelease, and I beat it 4 of the 5 times it was played against me (the fifth I got crushed by a duneblast beforehand). A bit underwhelming for me, but I suspect there are some decks where he is sick in.
I won my prerelease with rug. I just played every morph creature I could. I played in onslaught and knew how bonkers some of them could be, and the bluff value is quite high. the 5/5 trample guy with the bearpunch card won me many games, since I had a lot of them. The gameplan is to pretty much just play craw wurms and hope the opponent can't answer them.
I'm just curious how Jeskai and the supposed temporal events happening later in the block have to do with Jeska. The names are too similar to not be connected (though this has probably been discussed already)
This is really something that comes with experience. I notice quiet frequently that it's always the same players going to time. They take a few extra minutes sitting down, getting out their deck boxes, use an inefficient shuffling method, take forever to sideboard, and then get distracted during actual matches. The text on the cards themselves don't necessarily have to have any bearing on how long the game takes, and let's be honest, it doesn't take that long to read a text box and check power/toughness, and decide how that effects the board state.
If butcher becomes a thing (and it's good enough to), then I could also see grim haruspex and maybe athreos becoming a thing. Even if something like that happens, $10 for foil bloodsoaked champion seems a lot, but is probably fair if the normal is at $5.
I think it's a 1 in 8 chance to get a foil promo mythic from a prerelease box, so yes, much more common that a pack foil mythic. The question is if the supply of promos is going to be more than the pack foils, since the prerelease boxes are a limited thing, while Khans is going to be opened non-stop for the next several months.
I've been using it quite a bit lately (in g/u chord). Every mode has it's uses, and it's always fun to swing with polukranos to get deathtouch and then monstrous for a 1-sided boardwipe. It can be a very touch card for some decks to deal with, since in some form, it's always breaking a stalemate.
$540 is a fine price, as long as you're aware that a box/case is never going to be "worth" it unless you're actually trying to sell from it. Now if you're talking about opening up $540 retail value worth of cards that are going to sit in your trade binder for the next year, then yeah, you'll probably be fine. Just be aware that a large portion of value in each case is going to be theoretical value that you won't be able to extract.
My recommendation is to just preorder a set of the fetchlands, and pocket the $200+ in savings.
I kept a lot of standard playable uncommons in my trade binder. burning-tree emissary, nyx-fleece ram, azorius charm, etc. You'd be surprised how often people need them, and some of them were nearly 10$ for a playset, which was a shockland in value.
Experience playing will allow you to play quicker. The better you are with your deck, the faster you can play without making mistakes. I've been playing my u/w/r control deck for months now, and I know it very well, and I haven't gone to time in many months. However, I let my friend borrow the deck for an FNM, and he went to time every single match because he wasn't experienced with it.
