Has anyone else experienced serious hostility from your opponent after playing Burn
I fixed that for ya.
All the time. Although, it's usually not just from playing the Eidolon - it could be from anything, like topdecking the game winning Burn spell or using Molten Rain to set them back after they fetch/shocked. Most of this comes from the "fresh meat" camp of players, which are basically players who are beginning to get seriously competitive but haven't ascended to the level of a mid-level grinder or higher. They're just tilted and showing their ignorance of the game.
Try not to let it bother you.
Admittedly, it's easier to ignore if you play online. I try not to engage them if they're being completely irrational, but if they are of a mind to communicate, I'll try to explain my position as a Burn player the best I can. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not. Sometimes it makes for a great screenshot and conversation with your buddies later.
IRL, it can be harder to deal with. At competitive REL, definitely alert a judge if your opponent is being hostile. Trust me, it's the right thing to do.
Anywhere else, just use your discretion. Sometimes you may have to walk away and sometimes you just learn not play with that particular person. Just keep your cool and remember one thing: He who angers you, conquers you.
Nicolas Heal ran a 2 of in his Minneapolis list and it seemed to do work. 2 for 1 is the best for 1
Yeah, I remember seeing his Day 2 list post-JOU at some GP (there's a video link around here that magicdownunder posted if anyone is interested in digging it up) and he was running it. Up until then, I'd forgotten about the existence of the card from the old glory days of Standard.
If anybody is having trouble with Pod, Delver, or Affinity, I suggest you jam a couple copies. It's been really good to me. I played a few games today online and the power of the card hasn't ceased to amaze me.
Just thought I'd get everyone's thoughts on it too.
But Shrine is spectacular too. So many choices. We've been really spoiled lately with awesome Red cards in the last couple years. These are good times.
How about some love for Hell's Thunder and Ball Lightning? I think at least the Thunder could take over the spot for Act on Impulse since Act requires a lot of mana to be made useful.
where is grim lavamancer ? ye, on 1st turn is quite useless, maybe he does his best on turn 2-3,
I wouldn't go so far as to call him useless. A turn 1 Lavamancer is still going to change the way your opponent plays if he is playing any sort of creature deck.
There's several reason's why you can do this:
1) Lavamancer can still poke for 1 damage if need be.
2) If an opponent uses a removal spell on him, then that means they most likely won't have one to use on your next creature. If it was a Burn spell they used (like in a mirror match), then that's one Burn spell that wasn't aimed at you. What's better, if they used a removal spell on turn 1, then they most certainly did not play a Delver of Secrets, a mana dork, a Goblin Guide, or any other 1 drop nasty.
3) If Grimmy was removed, then the coast is clear to drop an Eidolon. And hopefully he'll stick if they used up their sole opening removal spell.
4) It's an early gamble to take control of the game immediately. Provided you already have a Bolt spell and a fetch in hand, you're well on your way to maximizing your damage output.
Some of this depends on the amount of Lava Men you're running. Obviously if you're running 1-2 Lavamancers, you'll want to hold him back until you're pretty sure he'll stick. If you're running 3-4, there's not a lot of downside to jamming him early.
Hey guys, I'm currently playing RWB Burn and had a question. Is there another variant of the deck that has a little more depth/reach? I'm finding myself getting dragged into the midgame in my meta and being in top deck mode with no cards in hand is getting old. Also, while the deck is fun to play it does get a bit boring! The only thing I can think of is adding some Grim Lavamancers to give me a little reach.
Definitely play Grim Lavamancer. He's the way you'll win the grindy games.
Obviously we all play Burn to play a short and furious flurry of fire spells to win a game, but not all games go that way. At times you must play the Control role or just dig in to play a longer game. Lavamancer helps you win in those situations.

Especially Pyrewild.
