Hey guys I recently switched off UWR control to kiki pod, I felt that right now having a reactive plan and trying to kill people with colonnade is a little slow in the current field of decks.
Just wondering if I could find a general guideline/list on sideboarding against popular decks in the meta, I feel as if I'm making mistakes after g1's and boarding out things I shouldn't be.
Is there a Sideboarding primer around anywhere? Did Liu post a guide I missed? I feel pretty good about knowing what I need to put in, but not so much on what to take out, when to dilute the combo, and so on.
i would advise shatterstorm over creeping as some are running that retarded bauble that regens artifacts. creeping is more or less a temporary solution till you can ge a shatter storm
I have what I consider is the "mainstays 4of of modern" it cost me a few thousand, but I can built just about any decent deck in the format without spending a hundred bucks or so. It's a good place to be.
With decks like affinity and zoo literally sprawling across the format I'm not sure I am looking forward to a list with things like sphinx's rev AND think twice in the deck. Also I think you want to keep the fourth tec edge and take out a third island, I know what he said he wanted to change after the PT, I just don't want to do it. Blood Moon is apparently not a serious threat to the format currently. Sure it was a thing during the pro tour, but I'm not that scared of it currently in a generalized meta.
Not too surprised at his answer regarding this. Really what it comes down to is that UWR control is a deck that takes a lot of practice to learn, and a lot of patience, as well as knowing when to pull the trigger, but in Modern, you have multiple decks that have the same mana base that use entirely different creatures, spells, and sorceries. There's a few things you can learn from what he wrote, but without playing and testing, it's going to be a tough call to make sideboard decisions.
Personally, I'm not crazy about nodes. It's nice to have, but I think I'm going to overall prefer having Wrath of God in the board (since people playing Rug twin are starting to crack wise and running Thrun, a board wipe will do it, a node won't instantly kill it.)
Other cards I'm looking at are:
Isochron Scepter - The only thing that holds me back from using this card is that I'm not sure the rest of my package is tight enough to guarantee I'm going to want to pitch a card to it all the time. Think Twice - If the combo thing is happening often, doing this at end of turn can start to become dangerous. ('I'll think twice', 'I'll bring in Deciever Exarch,' '*****.' Meddling Mage - Again, this is going to depend if a meta tightens up, if you know the format, much like Runed Halo you should know what card to say. Pact of Negation - Maybe I don't feel so bad about paying 4 mana in exchange for not losing that turn Shadow of Doubt - Very meta dependant
Ended up going x-3 at Richmond. Runed Halo x2 was in the board, it seemed pretty damn good, whenever I had it there was something to name (against pod I named redcap, against Jund I named Tarmogoyf, grapeshot vs storm, the list goes on.
Just curious as to what some of the UWR control players thought of Shaun McLaren's list. I want to take this deck to Richmond but some of it seems overhedged/greedy (4 tec edges?) Anyone have thoughts on changes, I am under the assumption that this isn't being considered the "perfect list" by the community.
25 lands
4 vaults and 3 tar pits
You can include 1 colorless value land if running 25, 2 colorless lands if running 26 total lands. Any more and you'll have too many mana problems for the deck to function.
After deciding on them add in colored sources based on personal preference and blood moon fear level.
Hmm, I was more in the comfort range of 2 tar pits.
Curious if anyone has seen any decent coverage of Modern Faeries in action since the bitterblossom unban, or this is something that we'll have to wait until the 12th for.
