I just felt it was overly annoying to constantly see people cry about spoiler dates like they are owed something - and when called out on their disposition they actually tried to defend their position as if they are actually owed anything.
Which, they aren't, because they have not invested anything but their relatively short attention, and if their feelings are hurt over mismanaged spoilers for a card game then I fear for anything substantial to go wrong in their life.
My 5-year old son will occasionally throw a fit if he doesn't get his way, guess what I tell him?
Honestly this has been fun, to see people behave the way they have over such a trivial topic. I almost want Monday to roll by without any spoilers.
It'd be funnier if Monday they announced that the expansion was canceled entirely.
Oh well, other peoples children...
I'm hoping for some solid modern/edh staples being in the set.
I cut bridge a long while ago, opting for a red splash and Anger of the Gods/Pyroclasm/bolt/terminate. With Nacatl running loose, I think Anger of the Gods is probably the better choice. Firespout is a little easier on the mana, but the exile effect is pretty relevant when you're up against Melira Pod, which is still a deck. I guess there's always Slagstorm, which gives you the option of going to the dome in those long matches vs combo/control.
No need for the hostility kid. This is a place for friendly discussion not empty threats. Much like the right to free speech, I might not agree with what everyone says, but I will defend their right to say it. I also have absolutely no reason that I MUST "respect that people are different." I do respect that people are different, but it's not your place to inforce people to do so. Aditionally, some of the most respectful people I know happen to also be some of the most ignorant people I know. These things are not antonymous.
If you're going to be pedantic, at least spell everything correctly.
Question for everyone playing the Ensnaring Bridge version - what do you do about Ancient Grudge coming in from the side? I fully expect to see tons of Zoo, and tons of grudge as a result. A two-for-one against your win condition and safety net seems backbreaking.
Those fast decks that vomit their hand and turn your discard into dead cards on turn 2, and then force you to try to race their board presence with a rack? Here, someone else try this.
AND it stacks with itself too! You probably wouldn't want more than 3 or so in the deck though. Not only will Waste Not add gas into existing 8Rack strategies which are already pretty solid, it could open up entirely new lines of play. Blue could become a viable splash for cards like Wistful Thinking which would be a solid play in a deck like this even without Waste Not tabled.
Speaking of taking this deck to the next level, I have some exiting new for all of us 8Rack fans. After speaking with a mod and I've decided to let 8Rack graduate to the Established subform. If the discussion begins to stagnate because of low traffic to that forum I will not hesitate to bring it back to its home in Deck Creation.
I'd like to take a moment to thank you all for your contributions to this deck. I may have created the original idea, but the deck is where it is today because we worked on it together as a team. Without the continued interest and development of the sharp minds on this thread, there is no way 8Rack would be as competitive as it currently is.
The move to Established marks an important milestone for me personally. I have been brewing as long as I've been playing, and even though this is just a simple forum shift on an unofficial site about MTG, it still feels like validation to me.
Thanks a lot you guys.
Congrats and all, but this archetype has been floating around for a long while now.
Have you considered Syphon Life? I think it may be better than Lavaclaw because it requires less land investment for the same amount of damage, plays better with Liliana and Smallpox, and the lifegain helps with tempo.
You're comparing apples to apple orchards. One takes up a land slot, the other would require one of the few flex spots in the deck.
Lavaclaw is nonbo with ensnaring bridge, but usually you can work around the number of cards in hand. Even if you can't, it's nice to have access to a finisher that also taps for mana.
If you're not playing ensnaring bridge, you're likely playing some sort of spot removal, which is where Syphon Life would be competing for a spot. I honestly don't see it happening, the core of the deck is large, and there are some things you just can't cut.
Unfortunately we have no idea when that'll be available.
Definitely seems test-worthy. I support the creature-less version, which means those 2/2s are not what I want most, but if they're free, I'll take them.
Adding BB to the mana pool when they discard a land is saweeeet.
I wonder how often drawing a card is going to be a nonbo with Bridge though...
Have you been testing it in proxy? Was drawing a card ever a bad thing?
No idea, but it's worth testing in proxy, since that's likely to be the next card that becomes an auto-include in the 60.
In testing I never minded the draw. Once you start drawing cards off of it, that's pretty much the end. The fact that they stack is amazing, and unless you're under pressure by fast aggro, it's not a big deal to tap out turn 2 for it. I'm of the opinion that this deck direly needs some sort of card advantage, whether it be Phyrexian Arena, Bob, or Waste Not.
I used to play 1 bridge MD and 2 SB, but never needed any of them. Between 4 bolt, 4 pyroclasm, 4 smallpox, 4 liliana, 2 damnation SB there was really never a need to bridge.
Pyroclasm and Anger of the Gods could be any split you wish, one is better against Zoo/Melira Pod, the other is better against Affinity. It's a meta call for sure. Damnation is tempting, but just too high on the curve.
Lavaclaw Reaches is another way to close out games when you're both top-decking and you don't have a rack in play.
Ghost Quarters are helpful against Jund, Affinity, and Tron to an extent.
I've tried this out with white and green splashes also, to unlock things like Lingering Souls and Demystify (so you don't fold to a Leyline), but I think the red version is a little better.
I take all credit for the awesome deck name, step off.
Read before you post. I already said that I run Wight of Precinct Six and Jace's Phantasm, and i win by doing damage with them and Nihilith. That means I cannot use graveyard exile effects, and I am sick and tired of people suggesting them. I also said already that Tombstalker is smaller than Jace's Phantasm and Wight of Precinct Six, normally will cost slightly more, and takes longer for me to get cards into my graveyard.
Immapwner, since I do not know how to double quote I'll answer you here. I run 4 Surgical Extractions maindeck, as it is usually easier to use than Extirpate.
I'd recommending siding out your whole deck, and playing something that isn't silly.
It'd be funnier if Monday they announced that the expansion was canceled entirely.
