First of all I'm shocked to see this deck evolve in the way it has. I myself haven't had much success with my original build and had jumped to esper spirits for game day. (BTW terrible mistake on my part.) With that being said though I look forward to trying out Draknon's build with maybe a few changes to the SB because of local meta and one or two changes to the MB for financial reasons.
As far as Noble goes, I think he's one of the better red creatures in the format and very well a decent fit in the archtype. Sure certain decks make him lackluster but if you run into a naya human situation ( which seems to be popular in my area ), He can put in some work.
If this has already been done and has an acctual name please let me know.
A little backstory on this deck first of all. I normaly play either fast paced aggro Jund/ Naya blitz style decks or some form of impossible combo build that only works at the kitchen table. Well At game day this weekend I decided to use an esper spirits build that I had been working on and testing with a friend. In testing it had about a 70-80% win rate against most midrange and control builds and about 50% with Blitz decks. Today however was a completely different story for my local game day tournament. 0-2 against everything under the sun from Naya Humans, to American control, and all the other possible decks one would think to test for. Needless to say I was very disapointed to the point I took the deck down to basicly just it's mana base and built what I'm asking for suggestions on now.
What I'm wanting this deck to do is be able to last untill the blitz decks run out of gas or at the very least have enough life gain and control over the early game that I can survive the first push and begin to make a comback.
The Ideal situation would be something along the lines of turn 2 Drinker, turn 3 geist or nighthawk and get in 2, turn 4 sorin and drop his emblem and let everything else just kinda build off that.
It's not as fast as I'm used to playing but at the same time it's not so far into the slow play decks that I have a hard time knowing when to play what and when to hold back.
Well it's good to see the thread getting as much attention as it is. I've proxied a few of the ideas I've seen and just kinda fooled around with them. Haven't had the chance to play against any o the top level decks, but I have found I for sure want to go midrange with this deck and that Sign in Blood will find a place in here. Way to many times I ran out of gas on decks with any type of nuke. I'll post an updated list after work and hopfully we can get somethin thrown together from there.
Thanks again for all the advice guys. I'm really starting to feel good about some of the options.
I'm currently doing a 2 bloodline/ 2 Noct split just for that reason. I understand i wont always need bloodline but i have a feeling sweeps will happen ( including my own mutilates ) and I like to have any possible recovery to get back to a decent board state. Just my oppinion though and is still just speculation.
Man I'm really diggin all the opportunities to abuse Baron with Captains and Noct. Both ideas you guys have listed are really helping with main and side board options and I'll be sure to start posting some results from the next FNM I'm able to attend.
I've been messing around with these three colors since Gatecrash was spoiled. I've always loved Rakdos and Orzhov since my first trip to Ravnica. After the Dragon's Maze prerelease I sat down and looked at what I could possibly do with the colors. My first build was RBW discard which looks decent on paper but itsn't quite what I wanted. Then I noticed we got a few new vampires that I had over looked in the spoiler. With about an hour of lookin at the options that stuck out most I came up with this.
The land base is alittle iffy for me and I'm not 100% on Blood Baron and Debt. Aside from those two cards though I think it'll turn out to be a fun deck to run for FNM. Any suggestions would be nice as long as there is a reasonable explination on the change. I've had some good experiences with this forum before so I'm confident I wont have to ask people to not bash my deck and leave. Thanks in advance for any advice.
This is the shabby side board I have so far. Pretty much just more Zombie hate and what not. Lots of room for improovment when I see exactly what my store is more populated with.
Thanks for the input. I was looking to maybe drop Hellsteed to 2 then bumping Demon to 3, but I never thought about Pack Rat. I'll give it a go to see how it plays and what not. Same with Shrieking Affliction. The main reason for 2 mainboard Charms was because of the mass amount of people I seen this weekend putting zombies together for my local store.
This is just something I decided to put together for FNM and just casual magic with some friends. I've always loved discard since I first played it in the Ravnica/Time Spiral days. Then it was BW now I'm giving RB a go.
So far I'm pretty happy with the it on paper and plan to start getting some tests in as soon as possible. Beings that I don't have The Rack and I'm not sold on Shrieking Affliction, I chose to use some nice beaters and Rakdos' Return as my possible win cons. I would like to find room for at least 2 Lilliana of the Veil and maybe some other good creatures I might have over looked. I'll try to keep things updated as I make changes and match results as often as possible.
If your still lookin for a good hexproof, I'd suggest Ranger's Guile. A few guys I know that run infect use that card to great success, so I don't see why it wouldn't work out just as well here. Not to mention you catch a little bonus damage all for a green. Can't say I'm excited to have exalted beat the hell out of again but I'd still like to see it do big things this time around.
This is the Side Board I decided to throw together just to have one. Dismember and Geistflame would be my first choices to remove just not sure for what though.
