Tough one. The fact that the Impersonator can clone artifacts and enchantments sort of compensates for clones being underwhelming in limited. But I think I would probably still play it safe and grab the Falconer.
And I agree Singing Bell Strike is good. The "pseudo vigilance" argument forgets that that requires 12 when I've invested 1U for a great deal of inconvenience.
I'd be curious to run the Herald were I not limited by clan. I recall in the M13 limited environment Chronomaton was very strong; I expect Herald will be too.
Winterflame or Scaldkin. Mandrills are solid but there are plenty of beaters and I'm actually not sure how often I'll necessarily have cards to delve with when I need it.
I knew there'd be whining if this wasn't the next Innistrad, but those comparing this to Theros are hilarious. Theros had a few bombs, but so does this, as well as a whole heap of playable uncommons and even commons that are INITIALLY noteworthy, let alone as opinion improves with discovered potential.
I'm especially going to look forward to drafting this, but I see plenty of interested constructed routes here as well.
I already consider Beetleback Chief good and this is practically the same for one less mana, only downside it doesn't combo with Conjurer's Closet. Great card.
Glad it haven't heard too many complaints about this not having immediate value. Not all cards need to provide instant gratification when they generate loads of value for their cost.
Voted Sneak Attack, Bombardment, Past in Flames and Reforge the Soul.
The first three just win games and the fourth is a solid example of one of red's most important tools.
Surge is powerful... If it sticks around long enough, and War's Toll has a common-ish set of circumstances (at least in my meta) where it looks much better on paper.
This is how I evaluate this card since it is a combat trick. If the card read:
3WW
Instant (RARE)
Cant be countered
Put a 2/2 (possibly with haste) onto the battle field, then creatures you control get +2/+2 until end of turn
Would I play this card? If so, where would I put it? Is it worth a rare slot? Is it over or undercosted?
It would be a 4/4 creature with with the option to be tapped and attacking, yes it would be a rare, and no it would not be overcosted, although it wouldn't be earth-shattering either.
Edit: sorry yeah 2/2, thought you said other creatures.
So is Jeskai supposed to be spitting out tokens too? Because between the charm, Flying Crane Technique, the prowess-lifelink djinn and now this, I'm getting that impression? I guess we're just not seeing the lower-curve Jeskai cards yet?
