I agree with Maro about messing with the colour pie and think that Hornet Sting was a mistake, but I also strongly believe that green should have access to fliers. If any colour should not have any flying creatures, it should be red. And indeed, apart from the rare phoenices and dragons they don't, usually.
But, shrug, I also don't agree that any colour should be excluded from flying at all, but I guess that's just my own personal opinion.
The difference between the nest and sting is that the nest is highly flavorful, whereas the sting seems to exist solely to show how bad Green is at direct damage, which is a terrible reason to make a card. Heck, White could have direct damage based on similar justification, with a "Thrown Spear" or "Accurate Arrow" or what not. This does mess with the color pie a bit, but it does so with the best of justification - flavor. That trumps most other considerations.
Though the Deathtouch is a bit much. Presumably the hornets also dip their venom in peanut butter for a one-two punch.
