Thaumaturge curves into sea gods revenge, something I realized randomly when I pulled it off turn 3 at the prerelease.... My opponent and I were both like "holy crap!". Also he's good with hour of need. I like the card a lot!
I've thought about playing the gate in modern, but I don't think it's possible without jitte and cabal therapy. Those two are what made bitterblossom such a powerhouse...
you have to hate on trolloro, because he's one of the most annoying generals of all time. I hate him so much, I built erebos just to play against him. you can say that bad players think that the lifegain is threatening, but its true. the oloro player starts at 60 life, minimum! pillowfort decks need to be hated on early or else they win in a horribly slow fashion.
I just have to say props to the brion stoutarm guy! truly a classy general. on topic though... tear that deck apart and don't look back. as long as you're keeping the deck pieces you can make it again.
playing stax- after a very lategame cataclysm I have a board of trinisphere, nether void, tabernacle(riftstone portal in the graveyard) and a 25/25 knight of the reliquary. I thought that was pretty degenerate... he has island, sol ring, nin the pain artist. he topdecks one of 4 cards ever printed that could save him- thespian stage. the others would be maze of ith, vesuva, rishadan port. can anyone think of any I missed?
this site is hilarious, I love when really powerful cards come out and people are like 'meh'. the comparisons to geist are terrible, yes geist swings for 6 on an open board, but it HAS to swing on an open board... a grizzly bear would kill it in combat. geist can also never block, and is never around to block.
this guy swings through a 3/3, and if they don't block it, its there to block next turn. its the opposite of geist, it forces some damage through and shuts the opponents smaller creatures down. if anything, its more like a batterskull that comes down a turn or two earlier without the evasion and lifelink. its not an aggro card, its a grindy midrange card.
I honestly think they nerfed the green one a bit, because green in theros limited had the strongest creatures already, but I still think its a good pick. I can't wait to put a cavern lampad on this guy and go to town! shredding winds just got really good with all the other fliers, and the newly spoiled hurricane-ish card is definitely playable at the pre release...
Thanks for the replies, lots of good advice and interesting how the opinions vary... I'm definitely trigger happy with removal, so I tend to just play decks with a lot of removal built in :).
let's say I'm playing a junk deck deck with 4 stp, 4 abrupt decay and 2 lilianas... against other midrange decks is it the right play to plow a turn 1 drs, hierarch, delver, etc.? What are the creatures you would consider 'kill on sight' on turn one, and which ones would you let live?
subject says it all, which deck would do better against an unknown field? my junk deck is a heavy discard version with hymns, and loampox is the LD version. any thoughts?
