Pride is a powerful tool; it makes us fight harder when we are weak as does it cut us down while we are at our prime.

Assuming you can equip this card to a dude with trample makes it a monster.

The main problem is that the list would need to be aggressive, and I don't know that the mana is good enough to make a 3-color aggro deck. Even last year 2-colored aggro often outperformed 3 colored aggro, and fixing is worse right now.
I used the phrase "Jund" to get a general idea across. The deck would be RGb. Black would be splashed through a low number of black shocklands to ensure that Exava comes out. I do not think you understand why people tribute to the Phoenix. The "return to hand" clause makes the card difficult to deal with. Some players would rather it come in bigger and kill it when they untap. Well, Exava allows the Phoenix to get in for the much needed 5 damage.
And who knows? Giving a creature haste makes them go from fringe to playable. That Hydra with tribute will almost definitely not be tributed if Exava is out. Having a 12/12 swing right away is scary if you were not prepared.

Something I noticed with this up coming set is the awesome synergy between tribute creatures and Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch. At the moment it appears that having green in the list is preferable, but that may change as the rest of the set is spoiled. Even cards like Bioshift could synergize well with cards with high tribute costs. Any thoughts?

Its like boggart ram gang only not really. Chances are you do not want them paying the tribute cost. The extra early swing is more important than a bigger body. However, if you play him turn 2 then you probably want him to be tributed for.

It appears that this deck has trouble dealing with removal. None of your creatures have a large toughness or a way to dodge removal. Board wipes, bounce spells, fog effects, removal, and most big creatures present issues for this deck. Using spells such as God's willing and Boros charm to stop removal seems far from ideal. I assume you want to cast Anax and Cymede turn three, so you will be tapping out. As a result they will have a turn to kill your win condition. My best advice would be to add other win conditions to the deck. I fear that without Anax and Cymede this deck will not be able to simply aggro another deck unless that deck does not play creatures or removal (I cannot name a standard deck that plays neither).

You have too many two-ofs. The consistency of your decks appears to be lacking. You should pick your all star line up and run with that unless you are able to tutor up or dig for the answers for the questions at hand. If you know what I mean.

Why are people hating on this card's tap effect? It helps a weenie deck have board presence in the case that it runs out of steam. Yeah, you can only use it after the damage was dealt, but to have a kill spell on a stick in white is pretty banging. I could see this as a 2 of or 3 of in white aggro decks. It also grants 2 devotion which might be huge later on.

I feel that the power creep has really spoiled the masses. This is a core set. That means it has no exact theme, however Wizards manages to have some really flavorful and neat synergies. There are cards that will see play in standard, modern, and maybe even legacy. Are there any EDH playable cards? Of course there are.
Personally, my first core set was Ninth Edition. I thought that it was one of the worst sets ever created. And I went through Saviors and Eventide. Compared to Ninth edition, leaps and bounds have been made. I could evaluate the set card for card, but I feel there is no need.
tl;dr get over it. You are complaining about a tcg when people die of starvation and the common cold in the third world daily. lol

Let's be honest everyone- this set is total and utter garbage. I never thought a set could be worse than Dark ascension- BOY was I proved wrong. There is nothing worth opening in this set.
I have not been super into MTG lately, but I played some with DKA and I am pretty upset that you accuse it of being a terrible set. Eventide and Saviors of Kamigawa were worse by far. DGM is better than both of those sets too. I look forward to playing it, but I will admit that I am a little bummed with this set. Although, the main issue might be that a color specific block is currently paired with a tribe specific block. Wait until the fall and then see.

tl;dr past page 2
This guy is cool if you want to play blue with a splash. All of the other cards you mentioned can win the game without constantly dumping mana into them. Also, all the other dudes you mentioned can be played in 3 colored decks. I may be pushing it when I say this, but the demand for blue in the cost for this guys abilities makes me want to say he limits the player's deck. On the turns it attacks you need to spend one blue and have two blue open (one to dodge removal on your turn and one to dodge removal on their turn). Let's then say you want to have mana open to play a counter spell that costs uu. That means you need to have 5 blue sources to maintain board counter. Like I said, that's a stretch but definitely something to consider.
Can he win games? Yes. Can Squire win games? Yes.
He is not an all-star but that's a good thing. If mono blue control pops up again like it did with Meloku, I won't be playing standard until it completely rotates. I don't want to sit around watching a player goldfish for 45 minutes until they run out of stuff or just win.
