I would love to see a black Day of Judgment, and count me intrigued.
In block, that would give black 2 sweepers, combined with Hythonia. This seems unprecedented, for black to be taking white's traditional role.
The deck that embodied pretty much all that we know about her was about ramping up to play bomb creatures. If she is indeed U/G, Exploration fits the ramp part of her persona. Vapor Snag is the closest thing I can think of that blue can do that would be considered "vaporizing".
Her ultimate must be about putting big creatures into play. It was the focus of her deck, and Theros seems like the perfect place to spawn giant sea creatures.
With the importance of gods to the theme of this set, I hope the cards can match the grandeur that befits a god. I don't expect something as mundane as big creatures with indestructible.
Maybe something like an emblem-like version of a creature that can only be "summoned" if certain requirements/tasks are met.
Path to Exile to remove a god for one mana is a flavour fail, I trust they will be doing something outside of the box.
Although past promotions for these releases have been mythics, I believe these promos will be rare.
I am basing this on Bonescythe Sliver. Unless this card is an artifact or some kind of cycle-breaker, I don't see M14 using up 5 mythic slots on slivers. I really don't think rarity levels will be different across platforms.
We should get some spanking new art for the Ooze in this promo.
Getting back to the original post and topic, I don't understand how you came to the conclusion that there will be one promo across all platforms.
I received Serra Avatar as part of a mini booster pack, they could do this again for relevant platforms.
The increasing amount of new platforms every year is the only practical reason they would go this route, although it does create an incentive to pick up the game on multiple platforms.
Standstill is more expensive to purchase than the comic, so that factor alone will drive sales. I would love to buy a Magic comic that can stand alone on it's own merits, but based on what I have seen, it isn't happening. I buy the comics for the fun alternate arts that appeal to me and throw the comic in the garbage.I suspect this is the most common scenario.
Around these parts, printing those books without insert cards is a guarantee to be cancelled.
Magic has always billed itself as a "collectible" card game, not an indefinitely accessible card game. There is no guarantee that playing with the reserved list would make them money. Don't underestimate the sales to the casual and collector market.
I respect and expect a company to stand by it's pledges, not succumbing to the most vocal portion of it's customer base.WotC are in a difficult position, even the recent attempt to reset the playing field by creating Modern is somewhat of a failure. Tarmogoyfs, Scavenger Oozes and the like are expensive and a reprint of them would sour the people that paid big bucks to track them down.
I don't think a "super rare" reprint is either nostalgic or serves to help players of Modern.
With perhaps a few exceptions, I don't see printing a bunch of reprints as a great way to revisit a classic set. They are more likely to make cards that are an homage to past classics. I just hope these cards are playable, as they tend to make weaker versions of previous gems.
Personally, I have no nostalgia for Dark Confidant. I think being powerful and being memorable are not always the same thing.
Yes, it sucks if you pay 30$/card for a playset of some "chase" piece of cardboard with pretty ink. If/when that cardboard loses value it is your own problem.
Because Wizards has created and supports tournaments and competitions that require thesecards to compete, they bear some of the responsibility for keeping that environment fair. It is unethical to create cards that drive the craze to buy packs/boxes, and then remove these cards from competition.
They have indirectly accepted responsibility by traditionally banning lower-valued cards first, even while the biggest offenders remained untouched.
I would just like to see Wizards do their homework a little better.
I'm usually against all the nay-sayers, but this time I feel very underwhelmed. The flavour and setting are excellent, just the power-level across the board is too low. I mainly play casual, and EDH, and always find some hidden gems that don't appeal to the tournament scene, but this time it's pretty dry.
Some incredible art wasted on very mundane cards: Deadly AllureFires of UndeathScorch the FieldsVillage Survivors
Some "Hope I don't get this as my Rare" cards: Lost in the WoodsArchangel's Light
Not impressed when the best cards in the set are a hoser and a PW.

I don't see any runes there. I think it is a blue card, because the colour of the spell's effects are usually mirrored in the energy signature.

Our play group bought whatever packs we could find when it first came out, but it was sadly, not enough.
...otherwise it is a bit too limited to being strictly used in Planechase
