Yeah further testing revealed that Ephara's Enlightenment isn't good. Just gets gives your opponent instant speed 2 for 1.
Ephara herself is difficult to get going. It's so hard to have her + 3 other cards sticking on the board. That one point of devotion makes a huge difference unless you're playing cards with 3 mana symbols on them because it means you need 4 permanents to turn on.
Once you have Elspeth out you've pretty much already won so drawing cards off Ephara is useless. I've found many times that she simply sits in my hand because I'd rather be adding threats to the board than playing an enchantment.
It's good having Detention Sphere for premium removal but I'm not sure it's a good enough reason to play blue.
This was a fun brew but ultimately uncompetitive.
Suggestion. I would lower the curve of your deck. Ephara is best when you already have a board presence. You only have 6 two drops (not counting Flitterstep). I think it should be more like 10. I think that'll help you out.
Brimaz, Captain and Ephara seemed like a great place to start. Supreme Verdict and Detention Sphere are easy splashed of premium removal.
I decided to fill the rest of the deck out with Hero of Iroas and some bestow creatures. That I think are the cards and numbers that might see the most amount of change. Since this deck is so committed to creatures, I thought Jace Memory Adept would be a good touch since it attacks on a different angle and is easily defensible with the high quality creatures and removal. Ephara looks nuts.
I forgot about Nexus. Didn't I learn anything from SoM block constructed? It should definitely be in the mono-red versions, which should be viable after M13.
I was thinking about sideboards yesterday. I think the plan versus control decks is to jam a bunch of planeswalkers. I'm not sure what my plan against delver will be yet.
Zero Burn at the Stake is probably wrong, but Mortarpod has GOT to be right. Chancellor of the Forge seems awesome in this deck, it works on both sides of Battle Hymn.
Other than Mortarpod, I am just running Tormod's Crypts for Rebirth fuel. Maindecking hate against reanimator and Snapcaster Mages seems like it would win more games than some sort of Memnite beatdown draw. This ain't exactly Tempered Steel.
Trading Post is hilarious. I like it as a one-of. In a grindy game, it makes goats for the rituals, and can start drawing cards and looping Mortarpods back. It's a neat card.
I want another Chandra, I think. Chancellor, Plunge, Chandra is not the most unlikely nut draw. Might as well get that more often.
Having thought about it, I think I'll cut 1 Reforge the Soul, 1 Wild Guess, 1 Past in Flames from the list above for 1 Chandra, 2 Burn at the Stake. Trading Post might be worse than the draw/discard spells, but goats.
Sorcery- Mythic
Exile the top card of your library. If it's a permanent card, you may put it onto the battlefield. If you do, repeat this process. With Avacyn's return, the flow of life became a tidal wave.
I don't like Kira. It's another three-drop, which is hard on the manabase, given seven other three-drops. Also, I don't think it is as good as advertised against Zoo. It is still a 2/2, which is outclassed by all of their creatures. Zoo does not need to play removal on your guys to win, they only need to attack with superior creatures. If you play your Kira, and they have two Apes and a Nacatl in play. It's not like they are screwed because they can't bolt your Kira. They just attack.
I'd imagine it's good in a scenario where you have two lords on the table already, but at that point you can win without Kira.
Mirrorweave is too much mana, and is probably only a defensive card. This deck has no problem killing quickly once it gets in control. I'd much rather have a bounce spell.
Crusher Zendikon 2R
Enchantment - Aura Common
Enchant Land
Enchanted Land is a 4/2 red Beast creature with Trample. It's still a land.
When enchanted land is put into a graveyard from play, return that card to its owner's hand.
Right, so you're disrupting whatever they're doing with Sinkhole, Thoughtseize, Wasteland, and Smallpox. Once they are behind, you end the game with Wasteland recursion, Smokestack, or dropping a Lodestone Golem to close the game while keeping them locked out.
Bloodghast is absurd with Smallpox/Crucible, and beats down before you draw the Golem.

Also, I can see some uses in a stax-type deck in Legacy or Vintage. I doubt that it will see play in current Standard or Extended, but who knows?
