I've played Blind Obedience several times now, and aside from negating haste, it's really just a difficult to remove extort trigger. While that's kept me alive a few times, there are other cards than can accomplish the same thing.
No doubt. Like I said, he's a great creature that demands a fast answer from your opponent or he's just giving you the game. I just don't like him on a visceral level.
I have the same reaction to Thragtusk, for what it's worth. Great creature that I find terrifically boring.
I know he's got a lot of power, but I didn't really care for how Obzedat felt when played. He's unquestionably a good win con, but after playing him I couldn't help wishing he was a Drogskol Reaver or even a Lone Revenant. I missed the passive card draw.
Have you found Blind Obedience to be useful even when going second? So far, it's yet to pull a game out for me. If I'm being pressured by hasty creatures, I'm already being plinked by a loyalist / experiment 1 and an ash zealot by the time it hits the board, and I just end up tapping a reckoner.
Planeswalkers that start at 3 loyalty are grease spots. Boros Charm is, once again, the perfect solution to a difficult problem. Liliana becomes a slightly overcosted Edict, and Sorin just gets you a token.
I'm still running Jace, AoT and Tamiyo since I can keep them on the board without it being a 1 for 1, and I find their +1s very helpful in such an aggro dominated environment. I know Jace, MA is the go-to finisher, but I just don't enjoy using him.
Blind Obedience hasn't impressed me. Like someone earlier in the thread mentioned, it's good on the play and terrible on the draw. I've gotten a lot more use out of Feeling of Dread in those spots, even against hasty decks. Extort isn't fast enough to pull you out of a death spiral, so it's really just an extra insurance policy if you're already winning. That's nice and all, but not vital.
For my own meta, I may swap them in SB over Rest in Peace. I haven't seen a great deal of reanimator local to me, at least not of the sort that scares me more than RDW or Jund. Besides, Rest in Peace means losing my own Snapcasters, and hamstrings Alchemy / Feeling of Dread. Can I function with a RIP on the board? Sure, but not so well that I want to do it voluntarily.
I'd prefer to SB 3 (Duress is the sort of card I want early), so I may lose the Ultimate Price and either swap it for a Devour Flesh in the main, or just lose it entirely.
Witchbane is there for Rakdos' Return as well. It avoids Abrupt Decay, so I'm less inclined to worry about it than some other alternatives.
I've tested a lot vs RG aggro and Boros this week, and never really felt too threatened. Jund has me worried, mainly because I haven't played against it before and I'm really not sure what to SB vs. it. I want to squeak in Duress to snag Rakdos' Return and planeswalkers, but that final 15 is awfully tight already. Also still up in the air about Dissipate vs. Syncopate in the main deck.
Depending how it runs for FNM, I'm debating taking it to Charlotte on the 22nd. Haven't been to a big, official tournament in years.
We have a pretty aggressive meta right now, same as everyone else. Last week the winner was a planeswalker heavy Jund. There's a couple RDW running around, a Naya Zoo and a Bant auras that are both competitive, and probably at least one BWG Obzedat that I suppose qualifies as midrange that will be there this week.
I feel like I'm leaning too heavily on Drownyards for a win condition, but I'm not sure where to go with it. It also feels naked to be playing only four counterspells. I realize Cavern of Souls is a thing now and I'm accustomed to a more counter-heavy draw-go style, but it still feels very strange.
I'd love some constructive criticism. My first matches in years were only a week ago.
