I played with it twice in prerelease, it's pretty easy to just +1, defend him for 2 turns and ultimate (he starts at 4 loyalty and his ult is 6). Both times I ultimated it was auto win, in standard I imagine unless they have elspeth it's very hard to lose too. Even Xenagos saccing a token every turn might not be enough.
This card will be the worst rare in RTR and less remembered than skaab ruibator in three months. It struggles to be on the same power level as mass of ghouls, even in limited.
That its not simply "not good enough for competitive", or underpowered. But that this is offensively bad, the real stinker tier.
Still, my best evaluation is that its approximately on the same power level as a 4/4 for 4 vanilla beater.
Yea despise seems much better now that creatureless control decks are heavily nerfed. I wouldn't feel bad running 2 alongside the thoughtseize playset.
Hordeling burst is also great with foundry street denizen. Between rabblemaster and hordeling burst, hall of triumph is playable and trumpet blast does a decent dynacharge impression.

Really awesome stuff, though I wouldn't recognize Heliod or Xenagos usually. Sexier renditions of the other goddesses are always welcome too, wink wink.

Yea the maindeck of the pro tour winning uw control deck has no elspeth or aetherling maindeck, just 1 elixir. Counter it and their only chance of winning is with their 2 mutavaults or ultimate jace to steal one of your win cons. So counterflux is very effective against those types of deck.

By the time you have 5 mana to cast Nissa, worldwaker, if they use spot removal to deal with your lands, that's a trade green players will happily take (stone rain when the opponent has 5 lands is terrible when they have a planeswalker on board), especially since you can easily make more 4/4s every turn afterwards, ticking towards a game winning ultimate. A bit similar to using spot removal to deal with pack rats when there are more than one on the field, it buys you a turn but it doesn't actually solve the problem (more rats/elementals coming each turn), and you're going to run out of spot removal.
The elementals can't be ultimate priced since they have no color, nor can they be detention sphered. If they supreme verdict, each of those 4/4 lands likely managed to hit at least once already, and Nissa will send another 4/4 at them next turn, until they can find a real solution.
It won't stay at 40 for too long unless mono green devotion becomes tier 1. Other decks like jund would likely play a couple copies only.

Very useful evaluations, after 2 prereleases these seem pretty spot on.
Played red with 3 generator servants and they were nuts with any bomb like t4 soul of shandalar, t3 nissa, worldwaker and attack with a land , siege dragon or even hoarding dragon. I almost never used Satyr hedonist effect back in theros but with how crappy and overcosted removal is in m15 is it's less risky to run your bomb turn 3-4.

Thanks for the price tallys, I figured the prices would tank but not by this much only 3 days after release. Still
seems like the best set to pick if your lgs lets you choose which set you want as prize, both long term and short term.

Yea I preordered 10 courser of kruphix last friday, even at 5 each. It's currently out of stock at both scg and channelfireball, though scg keeps restocking them at the same price, even if it went out of stock around 4 times. Like pain seer there's a lot of mixes opinions about the courser.
Personally I think it's a great card if rg devotion or rg midrange is successful again, but there's other cards I would rather play in rg agro for the 3 drop slot, like fanatic of xenagos or boon satyr, or maybe even fervent hunter if you play the whole suite of krosan tusker and the GG 3/2 from botg. 2/4 survives bile blight which I think will be a 4 of in mono black lists though, a lot of pros are saying it's the best 2cc removal for mono black.
Then again, boros reckoner was still around 6$ during gatecrash prerelease, most people have to play with the cards to see how good they are.

In standard, Owen Turtlenwald says mono black's 2 cc removal suite will consist of 4 bile blight, 1 devour flesh 1 ultimate, price, which will be good for Brimaz as only ultimate price can consistently kill him. He might be better positionned against mono black if thats the case.

Yea this card improves RW burn's matchup against mono blue considerably. Right now I play young pyromancer in its place and mono blue can barely interact with it (smarter for them to rapid hybridization his creatures in response to me burning them than to rapid hybridize my young pyromancer). Cyclonic rift is not a great answer either. If you keep burning their creatures along with their face its hard to muster enough devotion for master of waves to race you.
And it seems relevant vs agro. By playing this t2 instead of a burn they will be ahead in the race in the beginning, but eventually you'll stabilize once you managed to burn most of their creatures. It's like all their creatures become satyr firedrinker and you keep lighting striking and mizzium mortaring their creatures, not hard to see how you can win the race. Plus you have stuff like warleader's helix that helps in the agro matchup.

Yea I agree to stick to UB. And Murmuring phantasms can't block Reaper of wilds because it can gain deathtouch. But I think you conviced me that it's on par with doorkeeper.

It had some success in the 2nd place boros devotion deck of SCG today. Boros charm on Purphoros unblocked plus his 2R pump to end the game. There was 4 in the sb, mostly it's useful as a versatile burn/supreme verdict insurance. Though he brought it in against Gr monsters too, and Boros midrange.

1. Technically he's not commenting on the quality of the card.
2. That doesn't change the fact that the first link was irrelevant.
1. Yea, if he didn't think it was still bad, he wouldn't need to add "no matter how bad it is", would he?
He thinks mono black is forced to take a bad card as a finisher because there's no other options. Can't believe I have to explain that.
2. He didn't say the card was bad only in last year's meta. When someone says it's the worse rare in RTR, without mentioning how it could be good in a meta with less tokens, that's just flat out bad evaluation. Not to mention how laughably wrong his evaluation in limited of turn 4 desecration in 3xRTR struggling to be on the same level as turn 5 mass of ghouls is, and that was last year. But we can make a thread for that in the limited forums, if you still feel like arguing for him. "Desecration Demon vs mass of ghouls in triple rtr draft".
I wouldn't count on either of those being relevant very often.
The fact that it triggers at upkeep is very important, assures you some value even if they have an answer, like detention sphere. And I already said that against decks with few removal, Mogis will get active eventually. In rdw, reckoner, bte chain, or a normal curve of t1 1 drop, t2 bte/ash zealot, t3 chandra phoenix, t4 mogis gets it done. Not to mention since he can only attack on t5, it's even easier to get the required devotion by turn 5. How exactly again is the 7/5 body irrelevant?
