So it's probably bad against control. It's not resilient against Verdict.
a Blue/green ramp deck could possibly quickly turn a couple mana dorks +/- a thaumaturge into a 2 or 3 turn clock by turn 3-4. But that probably gets blown up by all the main players right now. Black discard, verdict, elspeth, burn on ur weenies in response etc.
Could be really strong in EDH with doubling season effects.
The Card that combos with thaumaturge is Curse of the swine against aggressive decks. If you are playing heroic your game plan is mid-rangey anyways. You aren't out racing monsters or desecration demons.
Turn and flames of the firebrand can be pretty darned efficient at 3 mana also. neither of which is really played right now though.
The fact that it doesn't give them a card until your next upkeep is really important in evaluating this card. Nothing is outclassing a 5/5 flyer for 3 right now. Against most decks, this card effectively reads, 'When it deals combat damage to a player, they draw a card'. Thoughtsieze and duress clear the way of removal and they probably just can't race you. If they played any shocks or city of brass, there is a good chance they are on a 3 turn clock.
U could fairly commonly play Black green and go t1 shock land+ elf, t2 swamp+ 5/5, t3 desecration demon...lol wut!...5/5 flyer eats jace/elspeth for breakfast and cant be sandbagged by mutavault/chumps. It will be very strong for the same reason Desecration demon is strong. It hits like a truck and it's drawback is heavily mitigated by quality MB cards u were already playing anyways.
Trample is not evasion. Especially on a 1 power 3 drop with no haste.
His card advantage is good in theory. If it was green or blue or white or black it would probably be a great card. Red can neither afford to go slow, nor afford to use 3 or 4 damage spells to clear the way for a 2 damage attacker that may or may not give u something useable.
His power is to low to be aggro. He wants to fit in decks with higher mana but that just makes it more likely you get stuck on 3 mana with an exiled keranos/chandra/stormbreath.
As red are you really going to hold your 5th land and stormbreath and go into combat hoping to deal 2 and snag land spell off the top? Red is almost always the beat down deck.
This card is worse than Markov Blademaster, which was unplayable in its day.
at least that one could swing for 3 then 7 damage over 2 turns by itself...this card swings for 2...then...2.
If you could cast the removed cards beyond 'this turn', the card would be very good. If it had haste or was a 2/3 it would be good. I look at this card and feel like they maybe originally made it stronger and someone looked at it and said 'woah dude! it can't be this good when all the other mono color mythics are SO BAD. make it a 1/3'...Like Chromanticore....epic fail.
On the bright side, it's not worse than Worst Fears. But it is worse than Sage of Hours, except maybe in limited.
And just because it's cute, pretend you swing in with this guy...the W/U control player declares no blocks, you deal first strike damage and put the ability on the stack, they respond with Azorius Charm...lolz
There are 3 or 4 cards that will almost definitely see standard play. Another 3 or 4 that will see fringe play and be fun at FNM. 1 or 2 that will likely see vintage/legacy play.
Good flavor and a lot of great art. 2 of the gods might actually be good in standard, the other 3 all look great for commander.
So, for a small set, I'd say its pretty decent.
Biggest disappointment in the set...Chronomanticrap. I wish so badly that they had pushed this guy a little more...5 color mythics should just be awesome, damnit!
OK so my first impression is not bad....2/1 evasive for 3 that nets card advantage and probably wins the game if not answered in 2 turns.
I don't like the hypnotic specter comparison because...well. Hippie would just be SO OP. Might as well just bring back dark ritual and Hymn and sinkhole at that point. Remember when black used to turn 1 ritual hippy turn 2 sinkhole and u just scoop. Yeah that wasn't dumb.
imaging cute interactions with Artisan of forms, this dude, and Quickened hidden strings. Did u just discard 4 cards at instant speed?!
Strong card is Strong. Aggressively costed for what it does.
Think Boros Burn just became viable.
Magma jet.
Boros charm.
warleaders helix.
Searing blood.
That is a lot of 2 for 1s.
Searing Blood is just dirty with this card....3 to the dome and 5 to a creature for 2 mana.
Throw in some young pyromancers, chandra's phoenix and maybe minotaur wizards and you're good to go.
I will be genuinely surprised if this doesn't see Standard play at least frequently at FNM. And now theres both revoke existance and chained to the rocks to answer big ugly indestructible things.
if only it could have been a 4/5 or had haste or cheaper bestow...hexproof would have made it OP so I get it...but changing abilities because of text not fitting in the box is horrible design when they could have just omitted the bestow text. Hell they could have just made it a 5colorless artifact with rainbow bestow cost and it would see more play. So many abilities and amazing art to waste on a bad card. I want to love it SO SO much and I can't.
Difference between cute $4 EDH card and Standard playable $15+ card that spawns a newly viable deck.
How many 5 drops are there in standard that don't dodge a lot of removal(or have haste, hello stormbreath)? The jolly green giant is the only one I can think of. ok I guess it dodges abrupt decay, doom blade, and selesnya charm...but heroes downfall, Mortars, and abrupt decay will be errewhere because of BROmance.
Holy crap. it's ability doesn't even say 'Other creatures'.
Please give us a playable U/B enchantment at 2-3cc to go with this and ashiok and I'll have found my new deck. Another deck that Ubiquitous Specter wants to be in.
I like it...2 mana instant answer to turn 2 BTE BTE BTE. not to mention it kills pretty much any other relevant 1-3 drops. Except Voice/hexproof stuffs.
Possibly see sideboard play in place of pharaka's cure?
Amazing art and an undeniably strong unique ability...but man the 3rd ability seems overcosted and on a small body.
But unless I'm reading it wrong, you can recycle creatures that are on the board to reanimate themselves...which is something they have never done have they? Because the sac here comes before the : which means its part of the cost and resolves before you declare targets. That seems particularly abuseable in Karador, Ghost Chieftan commander. Hey I sac avenger of zendikar and craterhoof behemoth to recur craterhoof behemoth and avenger of zendikar....gg...
Not gonna happen in standard though.

I vote for heros downfall.
If black was 50% of the meta then i could see banning thoughtseize. But right now its just annoyingly strong.
