Then again, that's prolly because I'll be getting it myself. Even though I have scuba gragas for max troll (worst skin ever, concept and art wise, so good), santa gragas is just so ****ing good. Nothing like a good santa gragas in the middle of the summer crushing noobs.
So what do you all think the worst skin in the game really is? I've got to vote for Pharaoh Nidalee personally... So bad.
1. What league did you start in after placement matches
2. How long did it take you to get to next league/division.
3. What was the total amount of games/time spent to get from started league to gold?
I would like to get there, but I don't think I have enough time to
A. play enough games, unless I win every single one.
B. gain skills or get lucky enough to advance to Gold
---------------------------------------------
Also, yeah, experimenting in ranked is generally NOT cool. I personally go by this protocol when trying new champs/ideas.
1. For first time champs or ideas, I stick to Co-op vs AI. This is also good for an easy First win of the Day
2. Once I've played a game or 2 vs AI, and know the basics of my champ, I will do Normals for further fun and experimentation.
3. Once I'm more comfortable, I'll usually warm-up with a Draft Pick game or two, then jump into Ranked
Always play at least 5 games with a new champ or idea, or at least until you're comfortable with how they work.
That's my suggestion.
The experimenting thing was mostly a joke. It was just frustrating to me to have to deal with this in my grind, so a part of me wanted to be spiteful and do it right back. I won't, mainly because I still would rather win.
To answer your questions:
1. I was placed in Silver 4 back at the start of the season. I play 90% normal games as I usually play with a group of friends when I get the chance, so time-wise it took me a while.
2. I got to Silver 3 fairly quickly, and then Silver 2 about 2 months ago. I did the grind to gold starting about 3 weeks ago when I realized the season was ending. Flew through Silver 2 as I was getting ~30 LP a win, but Silver 1 took a ton of games (3 LP a win at the end is not so fun).
3. I played about 200 ranked games in all, with slightly over a 50% win percentage. I also decayed down at one point from silver 3 to silver 4 due to inactivity, so it could have been less. Really, going .500 in games should get you to the next division as long as you're willing to play a boat load of games. Also keep in mind that I'm not very good at carrying as I usually play top (tanks) or support. My friend grinded Silver to Plat in a much shorter time span because he is amazing as Fizz and Elise.
So I'm super pumped and since you guys would be the only one who care (and even that's probably a stretch), I just had to say it.
Hit Gold V last night!!!
Free Elise soon! Sweeeeeet.
Anyways, is it wrong that now that I'm in Gold V I want to just experiment a bunch in ranked? Considering I spent the last couple weeks complaining about getting stuck in a team with Gold V players who did just this, it feels kind of wrong. But... Jungle Taric HAS been calling my name lately...
Been messing around with some (slightly) unconventional picks in ranked. Now that I'm seeing more people move away from assassins mid and moving back to champs like Ahri/Fizz, I've been playing AP Trist and Veigar. AP Trist just craps on them, and if the other team has already taken Corki/Ez and one more AP champ for jungling or the like, Veigar can be a straight beast. Anyone else feel like these two (AP Trist and Veigar) could be in a good spot now?
If you play adc, a great learning tool is to glance at the minimap while backing off after getting the killing blow on a minion.
I also got a few ranked games in yesterday. Whenever I achieve my short term goals I lose my focus on winning and try to learn how to do something new. I hit diamond 4 and decided that it would now be a great time to learn how to support Rengar. I lost most of the games but I was really zoning my lane for the first 3-5 levels.
It's really fun but probably not good against good players. I Would advise trying it at lower elo. Basically you start long sword and 2 potions and start bola. You slowly get your ferocity up till you hit level 2, then you pounce 5 ferocity Q in to a normal Q and you ignite and start AAing as much as you can on the target. If they were at 60% hp or less, they are now dead.
This seems to be my biggest weakness, and by that I mean trying unorthodox strategies or team comps. It's also hard to try these things without completely bringing the rage hammer down on yourself when you slightly mess up. Fail as a support Taric... You'll get a little vitriol. Fail as a support Rengar, and I can only imagine the flame war you've just instilled.
Is this just because it's at Silver Elo? Are higher elo's that much more open to outside the box strategies?
So what's a good way to quickly check "who counters who" during champ select. I've been going to www.lolcounter.com (or whatever that site is), but I've got to believe there's something better than that out there.
Any suggestions?
(Side note: Just hit Silver II! I got way too pumped about it, but eff it... I'm proud of it).
Its like giving your team, what ~40 bonus CS overall or something right? Thats huge.
Maybe they could change the tower prioritization so that it will focus on champions after something dies.
Maybe towers could do AOE damage, clear waves faster
Maybe CSing under a tower gives a tower a small regen boost
Maybe towers get an armor boost when an allied champion stands close to it. Or maybe if a champion is near a tower, tower takes reduced damage from enemy champion AAs
Really, the issue with not pushing towers down in Dota was that you wanted to be able to farm safely. With denies and a dead tower, it was all too easy to freeze lane by tower 2 and attempted to farm deep in energy territory is bad. In lol the map is smaller, there is no denies. Why worry about keeping a tower up. Tower/Tower/Tower Dragon, Game.
I think what kept the early tower thing from being adopted wasn't so much that it was a challenge, but them mentioning it directly gave people the idea that it was possible and beneficial, otherwise riot wouldn't nerf it.
You all read the latest patch notes right? Don't these changes seem to favor Thresh and Vayne rather than nerf them like they should? I mean, they are trying to mitigate counter jungling and early turret pushing (so in essence pushing games out in terms of length), which will greatly benefit late game champs, i.e. Vayne and newly changed passive Thresh...
Seems strange to me when those two are just dominating the bottom lane meta right now, but I could be way off.
Considering this was a collaboration of my favorite director and my second favorite band, I probably had vastly exaggerated expectations. So, I was let down by the video in the end, but I love the song.
That's completely backwards. Supports have even more impact on the laning phase than ADCs do.
I meant on the global laning phase. Really, you can't roam anymore as a support, and in low elos, you'll often find yourself paired with an ADC who can't freeze the lane in the proper spots for the jungle to gank successfully. A good top champion or mid champion won't just win their lane, but often times create advantages for the other two lanes or even the jungle.
As a support in low elos, even proper warding isn't enough, as you seldom can get your team to follow through on dragon and trapping the enemy jungler when the situation arises.
As for the bottom lane itself, I would agree with you... The support usually has a larger impact in deciding the winner there.
Bah, more games thrown. Bronze III, 0 LP. Playing support is useless since ADCs are just bad (OMG JANNA KS FCKING NOOB I AFK GG). Jungling same thing, there's always this one whiny guy who will blame you for everything. (OMG LEE GANK 3 TIMES UDYR NONE FCKING NOOB GG TOP LOST) Getting mid is impossible, I can't ADC.
So, toplane I guess?
Support in low elos is hard to do, because you really don't have much impact on the laning phase. It's often hard to roam as a support (unlike mid/top/jungle... oh how I miss when roaming Alistar was viable), and going full ward builds (literally buying only wards and oracles) isn't as strong since low elos tend to neglect things like dragon and buff control early. Now if you can land a support like blitz or thresh in bronze, then it may just be the easiest way to carry yourself into silver, since those guys just wreck unskilled teams... But good luck not having those toons banned every game.
What do you mean by "How well you set up your teammate to play?" Are you talking about pre-game set-up? Or just working with your team during the game? (i.e. teamwork). I'm also a fan of Volibear, but I don't own him yet, I just played him a lot during this past week. I can't wait until he goes on sale.
I also have some other questions that I'm hoping people can answer.
1. Do people on these forums typically solo queue or do you try to do arranged/pre-made teams? I know when my brother used to play he seemed to always be in pre-made, and it seems like those typically do better win % wise. Especially if you have Skype or Ventrilo. I'm just wondering what most people here do, and what are the pros and cons of each.
2. When you "Refer a Friend", at one point does that person enter your username or email to give them credit?
It seems to me that the biggest mistake people make is this line of thinking, "I had 10 kills, 2 deaths, and 3 assists, yet my horrible team still lost! Why do I only get paired up with crap players!"
In reality, I've found the games my team crushes the best in, are often the ones where my personal score is more like 3 kills, 3 deaths, and boat load of assists. Setting your teammates up for easy kills, tons of farm, or lots of global objectives (monster buffs, dragon gold, tower gold, etc...) is so undervalued by the community right now.
Typically, I prefer to play in premades, but that's more to do with the fact that I like playing with friends and the social aspect of the game. You'll notice that when you play in a pre-made group rather than solo, you tend to get matched up against better competition, so it isn't always easier. Just whatever your cup-of-tea is, is what you should do.
And to the guy who says Cho counters Yorick, really, I think you mean to say that Cho just doesn't get stomped out of lane by Yorick. I mean, Cho is probably my favorite character in the game, but there isn't really one match up for him where he just dominates. Cho vs Yorick is basically just free farm for both guys.
I just love the position of tanks right now. I used to think that I had to ADC or AP mid to win solo queue ranked games, but lately it's been all tank for me. Especially top lane. I simply tell my jungler to camp bottom and mid lanes and leave me to my own on top. Sustain pretty much guarantees I end up even on my lane (if not ahead) even when their jungler tries to camp me. And I love taking teleport so that I can roam a little bit for 3 person mid ganks or the occasional 4 person bot lane ganks, and still return top to keep from losing a tower.
I hardly ever snowball or carry, but the fact that I'm giving other lanes permanent jungle help, usually allows them to pull ahead. And a tank like Volibear, Nasus, Cho or Yorick late game really provides peel support and initiation late game.
The one thing I've learned recently is this : Solo queue isn't about how well you play, but how well you set your teammates up to play. Also, Yorick and the polar bear just don't get countered in lane... End of story.
