A new Homonculus! With, face it, AWESOME flavor text! Council's dilemma feels more natural, and potentially way more devastating in multiplayer games when talking about the black one. I like it!
Too bad of that typo on the Monarch reminder card though...
Seems fairly accurate, I think I recognise some parts of the Planeswalker's Guide (like the part of Phyrexians sewing themselves together). It's written in a very MtG universe style with lots of unexplained jargon, however, which could hinder an outsider's understanding of the article and, thus, the character
You make a point there, and I like to draw a parallel to Warhammer 40.000. You've got beings there that are invissible to magics, up to a point that they make people around them irritated; they are some kind of 'void' in the fabric of reality. Translating this to MtG speak, would it be possible to have a colorless creature, without a manacost, battle the Eldrazi? One that can't be regularly summoned, because it doesn't adhere to the normal way of things and not being comprised of mana, and as such can't fall victim to Eldrazi mananomnoms?
The fact that the Eldrazi are bound to Zendikar is a Hedron thing. They can't be destroyed and resummoned because they can't leave the plane. An RFG effect would cause their whole being to desintigrate: not just their body, but their soul (as far as they have one) as well. Also, because of the Hedrons, Memnarch's soul traps probably can't fetch an Eldrazi soul (see above) either.
On a side note: what would happen if Karn would implant the powerstones into an Eldrazi? Would Glacian's essence kind of take over the body? Would it try to reason with the Eldrazi mind (as far as it has one)?
I think I've read over this, but an Eldrazi can be 'removed from game'. I'm not sure how RFG works storywise, though if there is a way it might be used by a powerfull planeswalker as a lense to create a new plane (for example).
Speaking of which: wasn't Bolas quite interested in the Eldrazi, wasn't he the one who released them from their prisons? I dread the day he finds a way to consume their power...
True, since he created them. But you have to admit, some New Phyrexia praetors look pretty fly, especially Norn's followers.
That's not so strange. New Phyrexia has access to multiple sources of mana, and White has been the color of beauty. The Glistening Oil just adapted the specific mana properties to suit Phyrexian goals, not replace them as far as I can see? Black mana is "achieve the goal no matter what"; looking nice isn't exactly a thing black cares much about. Looking pretty no matter what, well, that's a different story...
I think you are mistaken. As far as I can recall, Phyrexia wasn't supposed to be free of powerstones; it was just a trap created by Yawgmoth. He took all those Dominarians that were diagnosed with phtisis and, well, compleated them. My storyline-fu is a bit rusty, though, so don't quote me on it.
If the Gitaxians are experimenting on Memnarchs soultraps, however, this could mean trouble. As soon as they figure out that they work, abducting souls from other planes, the rumor becomes reality. I can also imagine that not everything Phyrexia was is destroyed. The Phyrexians were everywhere, not just Dominaria, and as soon as the glistening oil left by Karn during his travels comes into contact with sleeper agents they'll know that Phyrexia has survived. This could mean an all new, overarching story... one which I'm dying to see, to be honest. All these loose stories are... meh.
So, like, why are you guys still talking about the costs of boosterboxes in here? Splitting of threads, mods, kthnx?
I am still a bit dumbfolded about these priceless treasures. I noticed someone said there was a Black Lotus as well. Man, he really has the best day of his life. I hope, though, it's someone who's been playing a long time, you know, someone who actually earns it to open up such a jewel. Way to go, Wizards, you got one hell of a promotion!
Was there a map of Kamigawa? That's new for me. Any links to it?
I must say that all of this sounds very interesting, I might even attend a prerelease for this one again. Perhaps I should stick on to my Magic collection a little while longer...
These are *****ing brilliant! I remember me doing some mockups for textless lands and creatures featuring stuff in the centre of the card and this comes very close to what I imagined. This alone mught be enough for me to start playing some Magic again...
