Anyway, did some thinking, here's kinda what I came up with. Basic idea is to get a "land of each basic land type" through either Prismatic Omen, ideally, or Nylea's Presence if need be. Scuttlemutt gives us "a creature of each color" and also gives us some mana fixing. Vampire Hexmage + Lost Auramancers give us a way to cheat out Coalition Victory early, although there is enough fixing / ramp that you can hard cast it if need be. Plus, a Glittering Wish SB package and Pact of Negation backup.
Pale Recluse is most likely going to be removed for Devout Harpist. Not sure how I feel about the various Exalted guys, other than the Qasali Pridemage, although I like having some more bodies in case my general gets tucked / snatched / etc. Ulamog's Crusher will probably find a spot in here, just for good times. Adventuring Gear? Worth a slot?
Anyone planning to attend the Legacy Open, and if so, have you settled on deck choices yet? I'm planning on heading up for Saturday, even though I don't play Standard to trade and sell to vendors and take advantage of side events.
A friend and I are in a similar situation, driving up Saturday for side events, and so we don't have to make the drive from Vancouver (WA) early Sunday.
I'll be bringing Affinity and my friend is bringing Reanimator. It's my first Legacy event of any kind, so I'm super excited, even if I don't have high hopes for placing very high. If nothing else, it will be a nice break after a week of gearing up for finals.
Still trying to decide between Rest in Peace and Spellbomb / Relic / Cage. I like how RiP solves a lot of my problems, but I like how the artifact GY hate adds to my affinity count.
Gearing up for SCG Open in Seattle this weekend, tweeking around with the Affinity list I'm bringing. Think I'm going to settle for something close to this:
Sadly didn't get to do a ton of playtesting, as the local "Legacy Proxy League" only fired off about 1/2 the times I was able to attend, and I ended with with a bye each time and vs. my friend each time as well. Did have some games against the following deck with my "old list", which had 2x Revokers and 3x Thoughtseize mainboard and a slightly different SB:
Lands
Goblins
Reanimator
ANT
Death and Taxes
My experience against these decks:
Lands: Tabernacle + Wasteland / Crucible / Exploration lock = GG. Dispatching a 20/20 game 2 doesn't do much good when they can just Loam / Crucible it back in every turn.
Goblins: Pretty easy match-up, can usually out race them in the air / chump for days.
Reanimator: Pretty much GG once their fatty hits the board. Rest in Peace / Chalice for 1 was originally with SB answer, with Thoughtsieze mainboard for more disruption. Hoping Graffdigger's Cage + Spell Pierce will help me out a lot more than the 3x Meddling Mages I was originally running SB.
ANT: Hope to drop a Skirge with Plating early and get out of Tendrils range quickly. Post board a good matchup, if they can't find a Chain of Vapors or Abrupt Decay to hit Chalice.
D&T: Played once, game 1 I got beat down for keeping a hand too light on mana, game 2 was a turn 2 Kataki, War's Wage :/
I had a quick question for my Affinity deck: I scrapped a few creatures from my deck in order to add 3 Dispatch. I'm trying to decide if this is a good move, if I would be better served with Galvanic Blast or Spell Pierce instead, or if I should plug the creatures back in. Here's my current deck, for reference:
So I've been playing Affinity for a couple years, and recently added in Stoneforge Mystic. I've really been liking running essentially 7 Cranial Platings, but lately the deck just hasn't been doing as well as it used to. I can reliably go 2/2 in our four round events but I haven't managed to go 3/1 since November. We have a healthy and diverse meta and usually get 12-18 people to show.
I figured I'd post my current list and see what people have to say. I'm pretty open to criticism and changes, though if at all possible I'd like to continue running at least one copy of Baleful Strix. He's been possibly my favorite creature since he was spoiled in Planechase.
Sideboard Choices:
1 Phyrexian Revoker: Lions Eye Diamond/Jitte/Pernicious Deed hate. Also one guy always brings painter grindstone
3 Ethersworn Canonist: Fast Combo
2 Oblivion Ring: Sneak and Show and Jitte
2 Zealous Persecution: True Name Nemesis and the couple folks who play elves
3 Swan Song: Fast Combo/Pernicious Deed
1 Sword of Light and Shadow: Lot of Death and Taxes cropping up the past couple months
1 Grafdigger's Cage: Graveyard hate, also natural order and green sun's zenith for Elves and Nic Fit
2 Tormod's Crypt: Graveyard Hate
Lately it's been Omni-tell and Sneak and Show variants. I just cannot deal with turn 2 or 3 Emrakul. Elves are also a tough match up, and another friend built a surprisingly strong 5 color tokens deck powered by Young Pyromancer and Lingering Souls. These swarms of dudes and the arrival of everyone's favorite mini-Progenitus Merfolk inspired me to start running Zealous Persecution in the board. Prison/Stompy decks can go either way, though win or lose Death and Taxes is just a miserable 45 minutes of magic.
With Merfolk, Shardless Bug, Jund, Maverick, Stoneblade, and Delver decks I can often win, and if I lose it's still a fun interactive game so I don't feel bad about it. Dredge and Reanimator are easy enough to hate out. Arcbound Ravager is main deck Bridge from Below hate, who knew? L.E.D fueled combo decks just roll over me the first game but I can interact pretty well post board for games 2 or 3.
Though I'm fairly new to Legacy, this the SB I've been thinking of running for my Affinity deck:
I was worried about Show and Tell, but I thought that Meddling Mage would be a good SB option for it, as well as helping me vs. ANT/Storm. Chalice for 1 to shut off cantrip cards also seemed strong to me. Not sure about how to deal with the Sneak Attack aspect of the Sneak and Show though...
Not sure if I like Whipflare in the SB, as it doesn't deal with TNN. Was thinking either Zealous Persecution or Golgari Charm might be a better option, and the Charm could help me out vs. Sneak Attack.
Good call on the Psionic Gift, I must have flipped past that card a dozen times while sorting through my blue stuff when I was building the list, I should have really put together the ping + deathtouch = profit. Yay for connecting the dots!
Diregraf Captain was my favorite out of that Dark Ascenscion cycle. Since you don't really have a pauper scene, have you considered trying out peasant instead? Having some uncommons in the list really makes things more interesting imo.
Also, is this for 1v1 or multiplayer? If 1v1, then targeted discard is pretty necessary.
The deck was originally Peasant, actually, but I decided to switch it over to Pauper. If my playgroup decides they would rather to Peasant though, I'll post some of the changes I make (hellooooo Undead Warchief and Soulless One!)
Right now the deck is geared more towards multiplayer... but that might also change, depending on how many people I can rope into this whole "pauper" thing
nameless inversion is the only wierd one and it can just get brought back by any card that returns "zombie" cards to hand. Recurrable kill spells are awesome by the way. Also any card with transmute is fantastic (dimir house guard, dimir infiltrator, drift of phantasms, etc).
Crypt Rats and Pestilence will also find a place in there, I had them somewhere on a "you need to find a place for these cards, bro" list, but a put Pauper aside for a while and am now just kinda fixing my decks up.
Howdy all! So I threw a few Pauper EDH together a while ago to play with some friends, who turned out to not be very into the whole "Pauper" thing. I took most of the decks I threw together apart, but I decided to keep my Diregraf Captain deck together, because I love me some tribal Zombies (U/B Zombies was my first regular EDH deck too, with Grimgrin, Cropse-Born leading it).
I thought I would post the deck here and see if there was any advice. I don't really have a "pauper" scene down here, it's mostly just friends, so there are a lot of choices in the deck that are pure flavor (i.e. Minotaur Abomination):
ideas: Runechanter's Pike- starts off slow but can really bring home the win in your colors, and first strike is always yummy
Walking Atlas- turn 3 cast ur gen, surprise land into play then counter
Dreamscape Artist- land ramp, can abuse the grave, and most importantly, the 2 lands that come into play are UNTAPPED
Unfortunatly, Runechanter's Pike is rare, and as such can't be used in pauper. Walking Atlas is AWESOME though, definitely going to find a way to squeeze in into some of my decks.
Anyone have any experience with Ajani's Chosen or Primeval Bounty? I was pretty excited when the cards were first spoiled, but I'm not sure if they really have that much of a punch, or if they just look good on paper.
i feel that if you are running only 2 artifacts for ramp it might be better to play some hate instead to slow down other decks. Stony silence, null rod, damping matrix

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to order some cards on Friday and mess around with the list, I'll post my changes afterwords.

Oh man, I had no idea Infernal Caretaker existed, that's awesome. Going into the deck for sure, along with Nameless Inversion.
Crypt Rats and Pestilence will also find a place in there, I had them somewhere on a "you need to find a place for these cards, bro" list, but a put Pauper aside for a while and am now just kinda fixing my decks up.
Do you think I need the extra kills spells? I'm running 8 with the Nameless Inversion (9 if you count Clutch of Undeath), do you think I should up the count? I'll probably replace Last Gasp with Rend Flesh though.
Good call on the transmuters too. I think I even have a foil Dimir Infiltrator around here somewhere

Didn't even know about Unflinching Courage. I think I might run that over Gaea’s Embrace, since it gives me a bit more utility I think over regen.
Totally forgot about that card! Thanks, It will find a spot in the deck for sure.
That might not be a bad way to go. I do plan on getting a Mana Vault for the deck at some point, but that's still only 3 mana artifacts.
Yeah, I need to get an Argothian Enchantress, just haven't found anyone to trade me one yet, heh.
