Examples include Daxos of Meletis, who can, in fact, produce the mana necessary to cast any spell he gets his hands on, yet cannot later use the same mana or even any-color mana from things such as Darksteel Ingot to activate abilities; and Lazav, Dimir Mastermind, who is supposed to be a shapeshifter and master of disguise of unsurpassed skill, able to adopt the form, strengths, and powers of any he assassinates.
It's really the only issue of the OP's that I agree should be changed, especially because producing those other colors can be difficult when you can't have any mana symbols outside your color identity in the deck anyway, so have to rely on any-color artifacts and lands instead.
To clarify, Daxos of Meletis lets you spend mana as though it were a different color, it does not actually allow you to produce those colors.
I'm not trying to be trollish here. I like the concept, but the rules seem to be kind of arbitrary and clunky, and really mess with my inner Melvin. Can anyone explain the justification in the rules below?
* A deck may not generate mana outside its colours. If an effect would generate mana of an illegal colour, it generates colourless mana instead. (why can't I tap a land I stole to pay for the effect on a creature I stole? The color identity rule does a great job of influencing deck construction, but it's just dumb to let that rule extend into the actual play of the game. I actually stole a land AND a creature with a preconstructed commander deck, only to be told that all the work I went through to pull off my combo was illegal "just because".)
I just thought I would say that there are usually ways to make things work even with the rules as they are. Sure, you can't generate mana outside your commander's color identity, but Mycosynth Lattice lets you spend mana as though it were any color. There are definitely other reasons you might use this card and reasons you might not, but I put this card in nearly every EDH I make. Creative thinking FTW.
This isn't the only way you can do this, but it is probably the simplest.
I am a little suspicious of both the no-source cards mythicspoiler has posted, but whatever.
This seems...really really good, and with certain cards, rather broken. That untap clause is a combo enabler, but I guess the other cards in this ascendancy cycle are the same.
I am torn between Abzan House and Sultai Brood for number one on my list, and it will all come down to how they actually play. Abzan House looks like it might not be the sort of thing I like to do but it is my favorite wedge by a long shot. Sultai looks like it might be EXACTLY how I like to play in EDH, but we can only speculate on the mechanics for each tribe.
Mardu is a close runner up, and Jeskai looks interesting primarily because UWR might get something that I might like playing (whatever that may be). Temur...not sure what they can do with RUG that I would enjoy.
After active player passes priority (and any other players in turn order before you in a multiplayer game) is the soonest you can do anything. The opponent cast spells or activate abilities before you, and pass priority to let you respond to his actions, or he can do nothing and pass priority to let you play your stuff.
Even reading the FAQ for that card makes my head hurt - I fear for the judges at the pre release.
Luckily, it is a whole lot more straight forward than the FAQ's length suggests. The only important thing of note there is the explanation of what happens when you control the triggered ability, but not the creature itself.
...and there isn't likely to be any shenanigans involving this card during a pre-release...unless someone decides to run felhide spiritbinder...
Perplexing Chimera. It can steal creatures, you can use it with strionic resonator to change the target of a spell and make stuff they cast target their hexproof stuff (because Sylvan Caryatid and Architype of Endurance). You can use it to steal boardwipes, which doesn't exactly sound useful until you look at Nivmagus Elemental.
Out of standard, you have a large number of things you can do to make this an even more interesting card.

2. Least favorite clan...
3. "Hey, Numot. Can you come here and lend me a hand with this EDH i'm building?"
The Jeskai Ascendancy card they just spoiled has that same feeling to it.

I want both of those things to happen...which probably means they won't...
However, you can target ANY creature (not just one of yours, and not just a non-legendary creature).
I like this card a lot...maybe even more than kiki-jiki...
Asceticism doesn't protect itself, doesn't make opponent's creatures lose hexproof, and isn't a creature.
There are tons and tons of ways to cheat this guy out in EDH. Creatures are cool like that.
for being uncommon.
