I've been meaning to bring this up, but the Vampire page (the tribe) on the wiki has a few errors. Specifically Mirrodin. I was under the impression that during Fifth Dawn (the novel) that Yert (at the time ruler of the Mephidross) had made most of the Moriok in the Dross into Vampires. The sudden appearance of Vampires in Scars of Mirrodin could very well have been groups of these Moriok roaming the dross and eventually formed Clans themselves and seperated or been driven out by Human Moriok in the power vacuum after Fifth Dawn.
It seemed Heavily implied, but not outright said. However this still becomes Speculation due to no word from the mothership.
Passage in question:
With the return to Mirrodin in the Scars of Mirrodin block, it has been revealed that clans of vampires live in Mirrodin. Like the Mephidross Vampire, they have characteristic fangs on their pointer and third fingers. How Geth did not notice them when they lived in the Mephidross is unknown.
I am passing by to say that I have read this but not the Mirrodin Cycle novels or official and canonical source material to provide you with help; however, I am sure that one of more storyline-knowledgeable users of the wiki (who are also system administrators) such as Barinellos or Hunter, and other users of the Storyline subforum such as stardust or Caranthir may give you a hand with this.
Actually, ... I've skim-read Mirrodin Cycle and I'm in agreement with you. It's rather speculative.
It's a good speculation that Yert is the progenitor of virtually every vampire on Mirrodin at this point.
He didn't convert the population of the Morioks in any large scale, but it's a safe bet that he sired several offspring, who in turn sired others.
But the wiki really isn't a place for speculation.
I'd be willing to slightly amend the article, but it would require a history lesson to provide context to lead the reader to the same conclusion without just outright making the speculation.
