Personally, I like the look of MTGSalvation, because I'm used to MTGS - you know, it follows; as opposed to MTG Salvation and MTGS (OMG, where did that space go?).
I think while both are tolerable, it's much better to have consistency throughout the wiki; which is why I'm asking right here, right now.
Thanks, in advance, for your replies and insights.
-MM, possibly on behalf of others?
P.S. There's a poll for those of you who can't be bothered to post. (Hey, but posting's like, +1.:p (Seriously, though, this is, like, serious business.) (EtA: Also, posting probably helps explain rationale; hey, but it's cool.))
P.P.S. Sorry about this.
I like MTG Salvation, but that's just my opinion. Anyone know anything official?
If you take NYC and spell out the word City, it is NY City not NYCity - ok maybe a bad example but I don't see the reason for not including a space.

I prefer MTGSalvation. Because that is what you put in your address bar to get here, and I think it looks better, one solid piece. I could overanalyze it an say that represents community, togetherness, structure- but who does that? I think it looks cool that way.
you have an inherent bias to this opinion, you realize.
furthermore, who's to say that your assessment of 'good' is any more accurate than the next person's?
Both NYCity and MTGSalvation looks sloppy and unprofessional. I don't know why anyone would want to omit the space...
yeah, i'd be more than glad to say that nycity looks "sloppy and unprofessional" (um, new york city is sort of a city, not a website; bad example, bad comparison, bad analogy).
but, you do realize there's a difference between the two, right, and that difference accounts for the huge variation of opinions?
you don't ever see people writing/typing nycity, but you do see ny city; but you do see people typing mtgsalvation and mtg salvation.
I like the space. As SSJ said it looks more professional.
Please get over-analytical, ta.:)
To extrapolate on the NYC example, it'd look even more weird as NewYorkCity!
Ever consider StarCityGames vs. Star City Games?
There are plenty of examples "supporting" MTGSalvation; there are plenty of examples "supporting" MTG Salvation.
N.B.: Note the inverted commas.
Nota benissimo: if the NYC "example" fails, then your entire argument comes crumbling down on it. That's the nature of extrapolations.
If the example itself is weak, well then, it's more or less insubstantial.
Both NYCity and MTGSalvation looks sloppy and unprofessional. I don't know why anyone would want to omit the space...
Mmm...
'cuz there's much validity to groupthink, communal reinforcement, bandwagoning, and an appeal to the proletariatmasseshoi-polloi majority - ya know, "I don't know why anyone would". (Also, "yeah, but they do", and it's not as though anyone's gotten particularly articulate and cogent with their PoV; myself included, of course.)
[Read. (That's not to say I don't read posts or anything.)]
Also, MM--Please don't leave?
Hmm...
Ultimately, I cannot not leave, by choice or otherwise.:(
As of now, I'm now thoroughly impartial on this matter, 'cuz, for starters, I shouldn't be promoting a particular view; I'm assuming this is a popular-opinion poll.

as opposed to MTG Salvation and MTGS (OMG, where did that space go?).
Yeah, basically, I feel that MTG Salvation and MTG S is inexcusable; and, for those of you who are gonna bring up NYC-NYCity, first of all, why on earth won't you just write NYC, instead of NY City, and secondly,.
More, more, more posts, thanks.
All the better with rationale, too!:)
It looks so much better in my eyes when it's all neatly packed.
That's why I'd go with "MTG Salvation", abbreviated as "MTGS".
Fair enough, as for your stance, fellow sysop; but I'd really like to get to the bottom of this with an in-depth analysis.
(And perhaps a possible banner-change.:p Haha... hm...)
you have an inherent bias to this opinion, you realize.
As do you. So why bother mentioning it at all?
Oh, and you do know what the word 'opinion' means, right? And the fact that threads like this were created for the sole purpose of people giving their opinions?
um, new york city is sort of a city, not a website; bad example, bad comparison, bad analogy.
I never compared a city to a website (you're confusing the map with the territory), but now that you mention it, there are plenty of similarities. In both, people congregate and enjoy each other's presence . They hang out, have fun, play games, etc. You seemed to be stating that a city and a website are so utterly different that they may as well be a raven and a writing desk, but it's just not true.[/quote]
you don't ever see people writing/typing nycity, but you do see ny city; but you do see people typing mtgsalvation and mtg salvation.
People type "mtgsalvation"? Why?
...and even if I'm the only one not typing "mtgsalvation" (If I don't just click on my bookmark I'll type "foru...", which is clearly faster), that shouldn't matter. Do you also think that Google should rename 'Google news' to 'news.google' and 'Google Maps' to 'maps.google'?
There are plenty of examples "supporting" MTGSalvation; there are plenty of examples "supporting" MTG Salvation.
The examples themselves don't really matter. It's how we view each one. For example, the fact that SCG omits spaces from their site's name doesn't make it a good idea.
if the NYC "example" fails, then your entire argument comes crumbling down on it. That's the nature of extrapolations.
If the example itself is weak, well then, it's more or less insubstantial.
That's just not true. As I mentioned above, examples aren't really necessary, but they can help in getting people to understand other points of view.
I suggest you calm down long enough to listen to me telling you that I said that honestly - that I wasn't aware anyone wanted to omit the space. It was a simple expression of surprise.
Yes, and I prefer Star City Games, without a doubt.
And the website reads?
The examples themselves don't really matter. It's how we view each one. For example, the fact that SCG omits spaces from their site's name doesn't make it a good idea.

Not true, or wrong; examples do matter, say, when you extrapolate or use inductive logic.
Other points of view; like, specific readings?
Why would you say this? Obviously people have done their best to explain their opinions here. Why ignore them?
I'm not and didn't.
What?
Ellipses denote my "what?"
I suggest you calm down long enough to listen to me telling you that I said that honestly - that I wasn't aware anyone wanted to omit the space. It was a simple expression of surprise.
I'm stressed, sorry.
What?? You're being forced to stay here? Yours is an odd brand of nonsense...
Yeah, thanks.
Way to misinterpret what I said. This is life; hell, why not read it as "you've got to go one day or another, one way or another".

In other words, you're a cop-out.
Wrong, and don't get pissed-off with, or dissect, me.
I simply shouldn't have presented any view and been impartial to the matter. Perhaps my intentions wasn't clear enough; I only wanted to know what was the consensus, if any, on the site's name - for use on the wiki, at the bare minimal.
See, I could sort of go through the wiki and change every instance of a certain word to another, manually or automagically, without prompting; that, however, wouldn't be too worthwhile if people complained about it after it were done.
WTF? Why shouldn't you be supporting 'a particular view'? That's what these polls are for...

2) The use of a space in the name of this forum is inexcusable? Man, you've got some really messed-up priorities.

Consistency on the wiki, whatever?
Oh, cheers for the much-warranted, thoroughly frank, twisted compliment.:-/
Wow. Just...wow.
Similarly.
Due to your brazen sense of moral fibre, ascendency, and forcefulness, I think I'm thoroughly convinced that MTG Salvation is definitely the way to go.:)

I don't have a clue why those who have voted for "MTGSalvation" did so; anyone want to offer their views?
Jesus, I'm tired and moody. Sorry.
I'm more accustomed to MTGSalvation; that is all. Still, I've offered not analysis of MTGSalvation or MTG Salvation, but nor have you; you've engaged in argumentum ad personam. Why do you have to be so bloody antagonistic and severe?:(
P.S.: -"man", ktnx.

"Geez", ahaha...

Now, I have much-needed rest and reality to deal with, so goodnight/good day.
Btw, my flippant remark, "Really, stuff it." was a half-arsed attempt to quell this.:p Yeah; it means little to nil now.
I'm thinking this can be closed now, despite it only running for two days or so. Now I'm wondering what on earth to do with the MTGSWiki; as in, to change MTGSal. -> MTG Sal. so it's consistent throughout the MTGS Wiki/MTGSWiki (oh not again! *facepalm*), and in light of 'popular opinion'...
I think MTG Salvation with the space is more sleek, plus if you want to say to someone MTG Salvation, you don't have to add "All one word" after it....

Yeah, so I didn't read the thread, so you can all call me out on that and disrespect my opinion accordingly, but:
I have always thought it was MTGSalvation and stand by that as the name. You might want to ask Hannes what the domain is legally registered as, if it is. Or you might track down Xen, and ask what his intentions were. Even if I don't think his intentions particularly matter, I still think it would be great for someone to figure out what they were.
Coming from someone who loves aesthetics and hates capital letters in the middle of words when there should be a space (even though the first word is an acronym), I have to say that both sides of the argument are nearly correct.
Also, going form lurker to semi-regular poster (yet still lurking often), I can provide a somewhat "outsider" point-of-view.
My preference is thus:
"MTG Salvation" when spelled out.
"MTGS" when abbreviated.

Both NYCity and MTGSalvation looks sloppy and unprofessional. I don't know why anyone would want to omit the space...
Omitting the space may make the site appear less professional but it also makes it seem more modern and urbane. In modern day, grammar rule's don't apply as they used to. Macy's spells their name macy's to imply youth. Seventeen magazine spells their name seventeen. And AT&T has become at&t. I would definitely prefer the look of MTGSalvation over MTG Salvation and it is the former spelling that has become the embraced. Of course, I may not be the best person to ask considering that my own username was selected for its looks over its sound.
