Welcome, one and all, to the Tournament of Champions! For those of you who might not have paid attention to the tournament-related threads on the Versus Forum for the past few months, this is a collaboration of members of MTGS who have nominated teams, submitted write ups, and have otherwise invested time and energy to create a single-elimination tournament consisting of 32 different "tag teams", pitted against each other in a supreme fighting championship. Who will decide the ultimate winner? Why YOU of course!
There will now be two matches every week, each one also lasting a week (except semi-finals and finals, those last for two weeks each) until the conclusion of the tournament, and you're just in time for Round 1.
One of this week’s matches:
Team "Crazy Supernatural Killers" - Dante (Devil May Cry) and Bayonetta
vs.
Team "Chaotic Genius" - Abaddon, The Despoiler and Tezzeret, The Seeker
The members of both teams are transported to a different dimension with all information about their opponents “uploaded” into their minds. They have 30 minutes to prepare and talk to each other (they don’t know anything about each other as teammates, save for any experience from previous matches of this same tournament), and will also have full access to any technology, magic, weaponry, resources, etc. which they would routinely be able to use from their respective universes. Teammates may share resources with each other. Afterwards, both teams are teleported to the randomly chosen plane, which has mystically sealed off so that none of them can escape the battlefield in any way. The team that manages to knock out and/or kill both members of the opposing team will be declared the winner. There is no time limit.
Write ups for both teams:
Team "Crazy Supernatural Killers" - Dante (Devil May Cry) and Bayonetta
Dante is a half devil, half angel who kills demons, while Bayonetta is a half witch, half angel who kills angels. They both meet up and immediately end up in bed. After Dante gets violated in every way conceivable and ending up a sobbing mess, they team up. Both carry twin pistols, both has a laundry list of weird weapons, both have problems with their dad (both also have smashed their dads), both created by the same person, things get absolutely CRAAZY!!! when either of them is around. Infact its a travesty that this crossover hasn't happened yet in canon.
Team "Chaotic Genius" - Abaddon, The Despoiler and Tezzeret, The Seeker
The only one to rally the forces of Chaos around one banner since Horus' death, Abaddon is equipped with the Daemon Weapon Drach'Nyen Abaddon leads the Legions of Chaos in his Black Crusades against the Imperium of Mankind in an attempt to bring it down so that the Chaos Gods may rule the Material universe. With the blessings of the 4 Chaos Gods, Abaddon is nigh unstoppable in his Dark quest for power and vengeance against those who slaughtered his Primarch, Horus. We all know who Tezzeret is.
How do I vote for the team I like? Well, I'm glad you asked...
This tournament uses a “Dual-Voting System” in which every user on MTGS may vote twice, once on the poll of the thread, and once by posting on the thread itself (by explicitly stating “I vote for team *insert name* because *insert reason*” in a post on the thread). You may spread these votes as you wish (you can vote anonymously on the poll for one team, but express your vote publicly through a post for another), or use them both to vote for the same team, or only vote once (using either method). In the end, the total of both "poll" and "post" votes will be used to determine a winner. In the event of a tie between total votes, the team with the most votes posted publicly on the thread itself shall be declared the winner, and move on to the next round. You only have one week to vote (two weeks for the semi-finals and finals), and the poll automatically closes on Sunday, 12MN (GMT +1). Only posts that occur before that time will be counted as valid votes.
Now, who wins this match? Root for your favorites now!

I participate yearly in a survival challenge in which I am dropped off in the wilderness with 1 days rations, a knife, and no other supplies, and have to find my way home. This is typically several weeks hiking from civilization.
I have personally killed several bears in the course of this challenge, with the use of snares and other traps.
Hey would someone please give me some information on both of these teams, I know next to nothing about any of these characters except Dante. That isn't enough to base a vote
Ahh, a Warmaster so powerful even Daemons fear his potential.
Obviously I voted for Chaotic Genius.
Imagine what our beloved Tezzeret could construct with his magic over artifice with the aid of the 4 Chaos Gods? Tzeentchian power alone would make him a better mage, As well as increase his power of future sight.
Here's a link to a wiki about Abaddon, and seriously, we all know who Tezzeret is...

I'm sure Von and Plaguefeather (the original nominators of "Crazy Supernatural Killers" and "Chaotic Genius", respectively) will be more than happy to fill you in with information about these teams.
In the meantime, some things I managed to dig up:
Bayonetta and Devil May Cry are so similar to each other in terms of gameplay and protagonists that this may very well be like Dante and Kratos from the very first match. If you know Dante, take him, make him female, give him even more pistols, and you've got Bayonetta (an oversimplification, I know, but hey, if it helps you visualize them...). Both are experts at what they do, that is, dealing with supernatural threats.
Tezzeret and Abbadon are both intergalactic agents who serve dark masters and are empowered to find ways of dominating their universe. Think Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas hopped up on Warhammer 40K (an oversimplification, I know, but hey, if it helps you visualize them...), and you've got Abbadon. Both of them are apparently very good at technology and magic splicing.
In fact, the four characters all have some degree of experience with blending technology and magic to their advantage, so there's a lot of similarities among them... it's just a shame the random terrain isn't conducive to all of them exploiting their abilities, but Sokenzan is still a great place for a smackdown, so...

Abbadon comes equipped with Drachnyen and the Talon of Horus.
Drachnyen is a very potent demonic artifact that allows him to rip through anything short of a land raider with ease.(Even then I don't put the land raider as having a high survival rate against him)
The Talon of Horus is an ancient artifact from the hand of the war master Horus, The Primarch of the legion formerly known as the luna wolves.
It comes with an inbuilt twin-linked bolter(Essentialy a machinegun that shoots rpgs which bore into your body before detonating) except his shoots extra dakka for better accuracy not that he needs it considering he hits most anything he shoots at anyway due to his heightened senses that come with being a genetically altered super human.
It also comes with 5 very good reasons not to be withing 10 feet of him, Empowered talons that can shred through anything short of terminator armour.
Speaking of Terminator armour guess who has a pair. That's right Abbadon does.
Terminator armour is the 41st millennium's answer to just about anything. The thing is literally designed to be impenetrable by their standards. Those bolters I was talking about can't do a thing to terminator armour. It takes heavy anti-tank guns(which in the 41st millenium comes down to heavy particle cannons) to take down someone it a suit and even then it's not a guaranteed thing because they have an inbuilt force field that will even protects them from anything strong enough to pierce the armour.
Abbadon also has been blessed by all four of the chaos gods giving him a stupidly fast reaction time well above that of normal space marines, Even greater fighting skills in Close combat, Enhanced durability, and Warding magic which enhances his inbuilt force field.
In game his model is notorious for being pretty much the best close combat monster in the game with only two or three other models being able to go even with him.
In universe he has a vast amount of resources to draw from and is one of the biggest threats the imperium currently faces.
I don't know much about Tezzeret other than him being a powerful artificer and and planeswalker but in my opinion he will be playing a supporting role just because the sheer tankiness of abbadon will allow him to muscle through and take this.
If it's not clear I'm voting for team chaotic genius
Aside from the Emprah and the Chaos Gods (who themselves command world-shaking power), Abaddon is the most powerful being in his galaxy. He has a soul-killing sword, and a demonic mark that gives him some ridiculous powers (regeneration, precognition, time manipulation, energy blasts, emotion control, etc). He and Tezzeret together are a mighty force, and I just don't think that the Supernatural Killers have the firepower to take them down. Can they overcome massively powerful magic wards, force fields, armor strong enough to withstand a small nuke, and near-instant regeneration?
Also, prep time starts out with Abaddon turning his teammate into Tezzeret, Servant of the Dark Mechanicum, and upgrading him with chaos-empowered 40K nanotech. Subjugating powerful sorcerers to the will of Chaos is kind of his schtick, and poor old Tez is a professional pawn.
This is actually a fun match because Dante and Bayonetta also have feats that put them on a power level comparable to (the other) Dante and Kratos, both being responsible for the singlehanded mass murder of various angels and demons in their respective universes. That said, these two are not strangers when it comes to dealing with dark or white magic, and both have superhuman strength and speed (Dante's borders on hypersonic when he enters a more powerful form) and are extremely battle savvy with their weapons and experience in defeating such deities. Should give the Chaotic Geniuses something to worry about, methinks.

I think people are counting out bayonetta too easily , she did after all defeat jubileus the creator (the games name for effectively God) , so if you can defeat the creator of the universe your not exactly easy matchup.
To be fair, Abaddon has faced threats greater to himself than Dante or Bayonetta... I mean, he lives in The Eye of Terror, which is a threatening place in and of itself...
Abaddon is still alive, more powerful than ever... Also, he's been alive for longer than 10 millennia... Plus, He's been blessed by the 4 Chaos Gods. The only one to ever Unite Chaos under one banner. He is the most deadly being in the 40K universe. There are 40K equivalents of Bayonetta and Dante... And He's killed them... Mercilessly.
I'm pretty sure Tezzeret would become a VERY powerful Chaos Sorcerer with the help of Abaddon. The Promise of Power would simply be too great for him to ignore. Imagine what a Chaos Sorcerer would be able to do with the powers of both Planeswalker and Chaos? Very, VERY, VERY VEERRRRYYY BAD Things... And being an Artificer, he could single handedly augment Abaddon's Weapons and Armor and create an Impenetrable Force Field that Abaddon would be able to fire out of. Those Bolter-shells that bore into people before detonating? Tezzeret could make them seeker-shells. and augment their propulsion device for faster delivery.
Long story short. There's no way Chaotic Genius can lose this.
Ok I dont think its THAT big of a curb stomp fight.
The marks that Abbadon has would be fine but I dont think the chaos gods influence would stretch enough to make tezzeret a chaos sorcerer in this dimension. I do agree that tezzeret might be able to augment the tech but not to huge degree because I get the feeling its far more advanced then anything he's seen before.
Dante and Bayonetta are alot more powerful then their appearences let on and their experience with angels and demons would give them the knowhow to deal with the supernatural.
I still feel that Abbadon and Tezzeret would be to powerful to overcome, but it wouldn't be a curb stomp fight like others are saying.
Abbadon isn't a demon though, he's a Space Marine, not just any space marine even. He's a clone of a clone of superman Jesus making him one of the strongest space marines around and that is saying something considering a normal one is capable of tearing a tank apart with his bare hands.
Yea, and Dante and Bayonetta are pretty much designed to kill demons like Abbadon. Its all that either of them do in both of their games.
Yeah, like I said, there are 40K equivalents of those two characters, namely in the Witch Hunters and Daemonhunters organizations... and Abaddon has fought against their kind and killed them, mercilessly. Thing is, I wouldn't put it past Abaddon to tempt Dante into killing Bayonetta or something similar. He's a VERY talented and gifted being at persuasion.
Even if it was just Abaddon vs. other team, Abaddon could win. Regular Space Marines are strong enough to do some serious damage themselves, think about one gifted by the Ruinous Powers. He's Big, strong, Fast, and intelligent to boot. He's the single greatest threat to the Imperium right now...

I believe Abaddon and Tezzeret win this fight, so my vote goes to their team.
Granted, Bayonetta and Dante are two seasoned main characters that have killed the very creators of their respective universes, all while being annoyingly snarky and arrogant as if they're not even breaking a sweat.
But Abaddon crushes them mercilessly. I think it would actually be an interesting fight, with Dante and Bayonetta pulling off a number of nifty tricks. Especially with Sokenzan allowing them to be even quicker and stronger, they might even put a dent in that Terminator armor of his.
But Tezzeret would be the deciding factor here. If only because he WOULD be augmenting Abaddon's armor, and thus I think Dante and Bayonetta would believe that in order to defeat Abaddon, they will have to deal with Tezzeret first.
They end up dispatching of the Planeswalker, But in the end, it would be Bayonetta and Dante's arrogance that would get the best of them. They would be executing combos and flippy thingies and smart ass remarks while Abaddon just bides his time waiting for them to slip up just long enough for him to crush them.

Exactly, their Ranged weapons are no match for Terminator Armor, so they HAVE to come in for Close Combat... and With Abaddon's Talon of Horus PLUS Drach'nyen, and his increased reflexes and speed... Well, it would make short work of them in close combat.
Funny thing is, Abaddon can rip apart tanks 20 times his size with Armor more impenetrable than his own and not even break a sweat...
Plus, let's not forget Tezzeret has access to a host of evil weaponry of his own, Mana Blade anyone? (PS It turned jace into a sniffeling crybaby... with just a shallow cut...)

As with all versus fights in the Tournament, please make it explicit when you say you are voting for a team. I can see some posters supporting CSK, but without you explicitly saying you vote for them, I can't officially count them, so please make this clear in your future posts on the thread, alright?

It really is the Terminator Armor for me in this one. If only because I don't really see the opposing team capable of ripping through it completely. Their tech is just too low grade even when augmented with magic.
If Abaddon was fighting a team like Magneto & Static or By Your Powers Combined, someone with enough UMPH to burst through the armor, then his fight would be more interesting, because then you pretty much have a smarter version of Doomsday to deal with.
But so long as they can't even crack that armor, Abaddon would probably crush them.
While many discuss Tezzeret and Abbadon's inherent synergy, Dante and Bayonetta have a lot to gain from their partnership as well. I'm sure they can teach each other a few tricks during their prep time. That said, the point about Sokenzan increasing everyone's speed... would benefit Dante most, methinks. If he slips into Quicksilver Style (completely unrelated to the South Korean dance craze) then his speed is multiplied, and probably pushed over the edge by the terrain. If Dante teaches his dance steps at double speed to Bayonetta, they could just waltz into blazing territory to take out Tezzeret first (which others have mentioned as a likely startegy) and then double team Abaddon.
Just a thought that the speed advantage goes to them, and that they also have some potentially good synergy, too.

My point was that Abaddon ALREADY moves with great speed even though he wears that bulky armor, Sokenzan would make him Faster than Dante, even with the speed boost.

The only valid point here is that Dante and Bayonetta's ranged weapons probably don't do much. Both Dante and Bayonetta have defeated creatures more than 20 times their size while a bunch of other smaller creatures are also attacking them.
Both of them have increased reflexes and speed, especially Dante, who can dodge bullet easily and move so fast its as though he teleported. Both of them are also super humanly durable, esp Dante, who IIRC took a sword to the chest every game and let it pass through him HILT AND ALL out the other side, and proceed to use it as his weapon like nothing's happened.
Both of them have superhuman strength, to do what they do. Bayonetta has one point casually kicked a school bus so hard it hit the face of a 50ft demon and floor him. I'm even talking about Bayonetta's hair magic yet.

Size does not equal power... You can be more powerful than something bigger than you... If history has taught us anything...
Sure, Dante and Bayonetta have defeated Grey Ogres with a bunch of 0/1 thrulls... Abaddon has defeated Primarchs, and his own Brethren in the other Chaos Legions... He personally led an assault to the Emperor's Children fortress where Horus' corpse was being held and destroyed the corpse of Horus. He's beaten the other Chaos Legions into submission basically... Something not easily done which is WHY he is WHO he is...
I don't think Dante OR bayonetta could do what Abaddon has done... Or defeated the enemies that he's defeated. He personally led the assault to Capture the Imperial Fortress World of Cadia... Cadia... Anyone who knows 40K will realize the importance of this.

Well you brought up Abaddon defeating a tank(which is not hard, which all the blind spot it has), I'm saying both characters on the other team regularly defeat enemies on the same scale. As for he's feat...he has an army behind him, he did not waltz into cadia and solo the Imperial guard DBZ style.
As for feats, Bayonetta's entire game is spent defeating Angels not Grey Ogres, in fact that's the only enemy in the whole game (which she defeats by contracting demons to help her). The big bad is the CREATOR GOD, who Bayonetta defeats by hurling her into the sun (getting her to fly into the sun is actually a playable section, if you hit a planet instead, you lose the game). I don't think Abaddon comes close to her feats.
Dante does pretty much the same thing, except he fights demons instead. He's also defeated Mundus, the ruler of Hell, after defeating all his goons. This is as if Abaddon walked into the Eye of Terror and defeating a Chaos God. And I don't think Abaddon or any Primarch has the power to do that.
As a note, comparing anything any of them have fought to a Chaos God is completely off, unless they can devastate worlds with a single hit. Slaanesh's "birth" created the Eye of Terror and practically obliterated a galaxy-spanning civilization.
The power levels of the final bosses is far closer to that of a Daemon Prince. Most of the powers/abilities are similar, from what I can see.
And we're not even counting Tezzeret, who's not a slouch himself. (I'm ignoring clockworking, given I can't remember how to counter it and its overpowered abilities.)
I'd have to argue that in Dante's universe that Mundus isn't on the same level as a chaos god. Considering that the only way to actually get rid of a chaos god is to wipe out all sentient life (or all examples of what that god represents) from the galaxy makes them a whole lot harder to kill than Mundus.
On another note your argument is that Bayonetta killed god and that Dante killed the devil which is a lot like saying that Kratos killed Zeus so he could handle a man in a suit of high tech armor. All it means is that they're in universe god and devil is kill-able (not to say they aren't hard to difficult opponents).
Drach'nyen can iirc rend holes in reality (there's some bit of fluff out there that says that) so in my opinion a at some point after realizing there guns are worthless Dante will try to speed blitz Abbadon underestimating just how fast someone in terminator armor can actually move and take a lethal hit dieing a painful death ending with him being sucked into the warp.
Then Bayonetta with all of her angel fighting experience will be offed shortly after a man with devil magic weapons.
I'd just like to point out that the Blessing of Tzeentch lets Abaddon see the future around him and react at incredible speeds. Those with a mark far less powerful than his have used it to slow down time and move at speeds that made them invisible, even to the super-fast eldar.
But that isn't even the deciding factor here. Tezzeret will crank up Abaddon's force field before the match and expand it to cover the both of them. I don't think Dante and Bayonetta will be prepared to put out the amount of firepower it would take to break through it.

Cheeseburger, french fries, chocolate shake, somebody's mind I's about to take!

My vote has to go to Chaotic Genius.
You know, one thing Abaddon could do? Turn Dante and Bayonetta into Spawn... Abaddon's blessings are also very similar to that of a prince.
The Mere presence of a Daemon prince has been shown to induce muscle-deflating agony and stomach turning properties... Abaddon is still stronger than a daemon prince, since you know, he commands them regularly... I doubt if they were more powerful they wouldn't have overthrown him immediately.
He's so feared even by his own soliders and lieutenants that if they fail him, he kills them, or just "blesses" them with Spawndom...
And Yes, you cannot compare the bosses of those games with those of the Chaos Gods, whose mere presence in the physical realm would be its' undoing... Slaanesh's Birth-Gorge devoured the majority of a ancient race who had become so decadent with excess, that it fed power to create the Prince of Perversion... Khorne also swung his axe across the sky and ripped it open, and rained BLOOD on a planet before a Daemonic Incursion occurred. he had Teamed up with Nurgle because Nurgle had some very evil things in mind. Some of the guardsmen on station had mutated and become pestilent and engorged Plague Zombies. and when they died, burst forth Nurglings from their flesh... So please, don't compare Mundus with a Chaos God, he's not NEARLY as Evil nor as powerful.
There's a reason that those who Battle Chaos are psychically gifted and equipped with weapons blessed by TEARS of the Emperor... Who is the canon most powerful Psyker in the Galaxy (even though he is in a Death/Coma state, his psychic abilities are the only thing powering the astronomicon.)
Pretty sure we can't just Count Tezzeret out here Either, He IS pretty skilled in Close Combat, plus his arm is more than just a glorified glow-stick... IT has Magical properties itself. And I'm pretty sure he could do a lot with Chaos Powers and Abaddon's help in the 30 minutes of Prep Time. (Like, considering Tezzeret can make 5/5 creatures out of Inanimate Objects in game) HE could make Metal Abaddon Clones out of shards of his armor.
Come on, think about it. The Ability to create animate fighters out of inanimate metal... It's not outside his ability.

How well do you do against one?
Obviously I voted for Chaotic Genius.
Imagine what our beloved Tezzeret could construct with his magic over artifice with the aid of the 4 Chaos Gods? Tzeentchian power alone would make him a better mage, As well as increase his power of future sight.
Here's a link to a wiki about Abaddon, and seriously, we all know who Tezzeret is...
Tezzeret, The Seeker
Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
And here's a link about whom Abaddon is granted Power by: The Chaos Gods.

How well do you do against one?
Also, prep time starts out with Abaddon turning his teammate into Tezzeret, Servant of the Dark Mechanicum, and upgrading him with chaos-empowered 40K nanotech. Subjugating powerful sorcerers to the will of Chaos is kind of his schtick, and poor old Tez is a professional pawn.
How well do you do against one?

How well do you do against one?
It really is the Terminator Armor for me in this one. If only because I don't really see the opposing team capable of ripping through it completely. Their tech is just too low grade even when augmented with magic.
If Abaddon was fighting a team like Magneto & Static or By Your Powers Combined, someone with enough UMPH to burst through the armor, then his fight would be more interesting, because then you pretty much have a smarter version of Doomsday to deal with.
But so long as they can't even crack that armor, Abaddon would probably crush them.
Just a thought that the speed advantage goes to them, and that they also have some potentially good synergy, too.
How well do you do against one?

My vote has to go to Chaotic Genius.
But that isn't even the deciding factor here. Tezzeret will crank up Abaddon's force field before the match and expand it to cover the both of them. I don't think Dante and Bayonetta will be prepared to put out the amount of firepower it would take to break through it.
