Alright. This thread is about windows 10. I've heard there was some problems, one of them is windows 10 not installing when you reserved your free copy (my situation for my laptop). I also heard about fabled blue screens of death while installing too. Anyone got any news about the problems?

I've heard that some NVIDIA users were having issues if they used multiple displays. I believe it's solved after a driver update and a restart, but I saw that it was scaring some.
I finally managed to install 10 on my laptop. Only problem I have now is the bar at the bottom not hidding like it did before. Might need a restart here, but I'm not in a rush. That and the dumb Adobe Acrobat updater that doesn't want to stay hidden when it's set not to show up (but that problem's on acrobat side). I also didn't try any of the new Microsoft programs found in 10. Edge does not interest me, I run Firefox. Movie app does not interest me, I run VLC. Office does not interest me, I run Open office. But I'm glad the good old Start menu is back, altought being ugly before tampering.

Who indeed. But who also wants to flush windows 7 from a gaming PC too? Only PC I would flush out the windows from is only if it's under 8.1. 8.1 is ugly, doesn't make sense unless you have a touch screen and doesn't have a good start menu. Windows 10 is less ugly, but is still ugly. If Microsoft gave us the choice Downgrade to 7 or upgrade to 10, I would have picked downgrade for my laptop. But that's not how they work.
Pretty sure everyone knows Microsoft is not the most intelligent company out there, Apple has lost it's brain since the death of Steve Jobs (still wouldn't buy stuff from them if he was still alive, you pay for the brand, not for the tech). Guess that leaves us with Linux, which not many things are supported on it. Maybe in ten years when everyone will know what's really good?

It's free. If windows try to go back on their word, pretty sure they would loose a huge amount of money in lawsuit. I checked the page and they clearly stated it was a full version for free for ever for those that preordered it. We accepted to preorder, thus we are legally binded by contract with Microsoft. Our PCs ends up being their lab rats, we have a free OS and if they decided to ask us money after downloading, then they'll have lawsuit. Pretty sure they are already thinking about windows 11 with their new web browser and other new apps, as they now call programs.
Better think of 10 as a test product they gave out.

It's more to shore up a big problem Microsoft has been struggling with since Windows 98: supporting multiple versions of Windows. People have been avoiding upgrading whatever came with their PC for a couple reasons:
It was expensive to buy even an update version of Windows.
Updating was not an easy experience for most users.
By giving Windows 10 away and doing it with a background updater Microsoft is hoping their support costs plummet. If the majority of Windows users are all on the same OS it means they don't have to keep support going for many years after the product's expected lifecycle like they did with Windows XP. There will certainly be some holdouts who don't want to abandon Windows 7 (most likely businesses who are extremely adverse to change) but I expect Microsoft to hit around 90% Windows 10 eventually.
Make no mistake, though. Microsoft isn't giving away Windows 10 out of the goodness of their heart. This is a good economic move because they gain so much in cutting support costs.
The Start menu doesn't really work like in Windows 7. It just lists your modern apps and not your x86 ones (so no "Paint", "Notepad", etc.). This is an improvement over Windows 8 for me; but, I guess for some people they don't mind as long as the Start Menu was in some sort of list form.
So, just a little insight because I have a connection or so at Microsoft and know some of why they're doing this with Windows 10.
1. Windows 10 is still a little buggy because they wanted to get the release out due to how abysmal the reception of Windows 8 was.
2. The upgrade is going to be free as long as you do it within a year of release (whether your reserved or not). The goal here was to make a lot of developers and the IT community in general happy because it means less back-porting on new software. Microsoft is hoping that Windows 10 will re-vitalize new PC sales and they can make up for this with more OEM sales. I definitely like that direction.
3. Windows 10 is planned as the end all be all windows for the foreseeable future. There is no development at Microsoft for a future OS. All OS Development is on improving windows 10. The concept is that from here out, Windows is just Windows. You get it for your PC and it's always up to date. This is also to make Developers happy.
All of the above also applies to Edge Browser (which also makes developers very, very happy)
If you're on Windows 7 and aren't interested in jumping in early. You're just fine waiting a little while to spare yourself some of the early glitches, but you'll want to upgrade before long because 10 is going to be it for a long while. Possibly for good.
If you're on Windows 8.x, do the upgrade. It's 100% worth it for you.
As for the start menu, you can pin anything to start but the type of program will determine a lot of the look. There is an all apps again, but I do find it a little troublesome due to the large sizes that they went with. It hasn't bothered me too much though because I got into the habit of using the start search on Win 7 and have stuck with that.
Other thoughts:
As a developer, I'm incredibly happy with the direction Microsoft went with Windows 10 and look forward to where PCs are pretty much just on that platform.
Cortana isn't really mature as a technology yet, but it's kinda cool and it's really impressive that it's far enough along that it's at least somewhat useful. I like that Microsoft decided to make this a core part of Windows 10 because it means that it has to be developed further. I always saw that as an issue with Siri. Because Siri was just a neat app, there was no necessity to working out any issues with it. Microsoft has now made themselves pot committed to making Cortana work, so I really look forward to seeing that become fully functional for common use.

I already made the jump to 10 for my laptop, while I'm holding back for my Gaming PC. So far, 10 is doing fine for me, but I have some bits of lag here and there from time to time. I expect them to fix that issue with an update.

i think lag only occur during some time after start up.. need to patient a bit tho.
You played JESUS?!?! I heard none of his guys stay in the graveyard, and once you think you have him beat he ALWAYS comes back to win within three turns. I like...WORSHIP him.
Lag happens around anytime for my laptop. For example, I click an icon and sometimes, it lags. I start a program and sometimes it lags. I create a new tab in my web browser and it almost always lag. So I believe there's a small bug where Windows try to process programs and actions with more memory than what is necessary, thus causing a lag spike.
