While I am inclined to agree with you, I don't really like the look of MAC's OS X either. The toolbar at the obttom is teh cool, but the rest of it is just. . . meh.
Personally I use Windows XP (home unfortunately) on my desktop and run a sweet skin for it off Window Blinds. When I put together my new desktop with it's 300 GB HDD I will be running three partitions. One each with Windows Vista, MAC OS X, and some form of Linux.
Since each of those is far superior to the others in it's own areas, all three together make the perfect machiene. Mwahahahahah. . . *cough* er, pay no heed to the man behind the curtain.
Btw, cute cat.
Hey TFE, have you tried Empire Earth? I've been playing it lately, and I think it beats the pants off AOE 2.

To put it simply, women have to seek empowerment, whereas men have to live up to empowerment.
I changed my desktop to a solid color--the color of the Mac loading screen. It's just so cool to have no transition between loading and the desktop (then the programs auto-start, yayz).

@EclipseAgent: How the HELL did you get the KDE taskbar to do that? I want to get away from the basic KDE setup and make it look better, kinda like yours, and I'd much rather do what you did than install XFCE. Also, how do you take a screenshot on this thing? I can't seem to figure it out.
@Senori: Why Gnome instead of KDE or XFCE?
@the tons of Windows users: I feel sorry for you guys.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
Annorax to EA: It's been a while since I've used KDE, but I believe it's the last tab of the Kicker configuration (Kicker, of course, being the taskbar).
As for my DE choice: I've used all three (as well as E17, WindowMaker, and Fluxbox). I always end up moving back to Gnome; Xfce still has a way to go on being usable. And KDE has the joint issues of being ugly and bloated (I sometimes go back, but then I start Konqueror and remember why I left).

halo? is that the game halo? if so howd you get it for mac?
Halo is commercially available on Mac. In fact, the game was developed on Macs. Microsoft bought out the company making it at the last minute to ensure that it wouldn't be Mac only, once again proving that they are a monopolistic hell-machine.
Hmm, right, I forgot to actually put an image up with my last post. Well, here's my current desktop.
I really like the skin and icons I have right now, and I don't think I'll be changing them any time soon. Btw, that's Winamp in the corner for those who don't happen to recognize it with that skin.
Edit: Grr, upload not working. . .
Edit 2: WTF, I still can't upload the image. Oh well. . .
That's really quite nice, darksecas. I don't know what it's all about, but the colours are wonderful and the blending is superb.
And you've reminded me that the time has come to post my latest one, too. It's one of Gustave Doré's plates from his illustrated edition of Ariosto's Orlando Furioso, a most excellent work.

Twinkee, the best place to get HUEG Doré plates I've been able to find is Therionweb. The selection is very good, but they don't have all of them, unfortunately, and they certainly don't have any of his colour work. The best place to go for reasonably HUEG plates, and a legitimately enormous selection, is the ArtPassions page about him.

I think color burns and fading complement the OS X desktop rather well, and I put my apps in the Dock to keep it clean.
