I don't have a lot of experience with that model of laptop so I can't help on any specifics of installation besides what you'd be able to find on HP's site.
Seller says these drives are configured to be swappable so install is slide-in, slide-out. Problem (hopefully) solved.
In your guy's opinions, what's the best free Photo Editing software on the net right now, for free? I'd like to be able to make my own banners and stuff but I don't want to pay alot of money, no job. Thanks!

In summation: You are not inherintely superior for using a rogue deck.
It could be any of the following:
1)Bad cable
2)Bad network port on your computer
3)Bad network port on whatever you're connecting to (router, DSL/cable modem, etc.)
I would inspect all of those for any obvious physical damage first.

well normally i would just turn off my modem a few minuets and it would be working fine for the rest of the day, so it's possibly a modem error i guess

1)Make sure the headphones are plugged into the correct port on the sound card. On most modern sound cards this port is colored green.
2)Check the volume controls in Control Panel to make sure it isn't muted, and that the volume is set high enough to be audible. You'll need to check "Volume Control" and "Wave" settings.

Another pretty simple (I guess) question for you all.
I have to set up Skype on my work computer for when the boss is away and I can't for the life of me get audio to come out of the headphones. In fact, I can't get sound out of the computers speakers either.
The computer does have a soundcard, which I had to check whilst typing this as I was like... OMG, please say it has one
As I said, it's just the sound coming into this computer. I can get my voice to travel to another computer, just not the other way around.
If anyone can suggest anything, it would be gratefully received
Ryan.
Make sure the sound card's drivers are installed, up to date, and that the computer recognizes the sound card as even being installed. You have no idea how often this problem can be caused by magically disappearing drivers.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
I'm not sure if this belongs here or in a different forum, so please move it if necessary.
I've been trying to watch the last two episodes of Drive on Fox's MySpace page and the video doesn't stream properly; it keeps stopping for no apparent reason, then restarting about half a second past the time it stopped and after a few minutes the video stops completely and tries to show me the commercial again. I've been able to get about as far as the start of the theme song, but it won't play past that. When I go to the page that's supposed to check your Move Media Player settings everything works fine.
My questions are: Is the problem here with Fox, MySpace, Move Media Player, or my computer? And does anyone know of a legal someplace other than MySpace to watch and/or download the final two episodes of Drive?
I need some help with monitoring my bandwidth. I have 3 network devices (two PCs and a Wii) sharing an internet connection through a Netgear wireless router. I need to keep a record of how much total bandwidth I am using per day. I only need to monitor the traffic to and from my network, not within it. So, if I transfer files between PCs, it doesn't need to be recorded, but when I download something off the Internet, it does. Is there a program that will keep a log for me?

Hey, I need a little help here. I seem to have myself a nasty little piece of spyware that I cannot get rid of. Spybot is not help and neither is norton. Virus Protection Pro is the culprit and if you have any helpful tips that would be great. Just send me an PM if you can help. Thanks.
Have you tried Ad-Aware? I don't know if that will get rid of it, but it'd be worth a try. It looks like VPP is installed by a trojan, which makes it surprising that Norton doesn't get rid of it. I presume your Norton/Symantec version is current and you have the latest definitions?
Also, this site has some information on VPP removal.
Thanks. I will have to give that a try. I did a little research on google but I kept getting sites that wanted me to download other programs that were not free. Ad-Aware and VLC are both not picking it up. But thank you ever so much for that website I will have to see if it helps.
Hello. I have been having computer problems for the last couple days, and I think the source may be a virus.
My computer will restart seemingly randomly, but I have noticed that it also restarts whenever I try to scan it for a virus, and whenever I listen to music or watch videos.
My friends think it is some sort of 'smart-virus', but none of us know any way to get rid of it. As I said before, I can't run my stinger or scan to find out what exactly it is...My comp is pretty old, but my dad won't replace it(it's a 20 GB gateway o.0)

Watching videos and virus scanning can be memory and processor intensive activities. If your computer is really that old, maybe you don't have a virus. Maybe it is just dying. Try opening a bunch of different programs at once and see if the computer restarts. If you press CTRL + ALT + DEL on Windows, you can see how much of your RAM and processor is being used.
Well, right now I am using 251656 K of memory...not sure exactly what that means, as I don't know the limits of RAm on my comp. It's only at about a third of the max going by the little box on the screen.
Guess I don't know as much about computers as I orignally thought...
EDIT: It also restarts when you use javascript (i.e. when my brother plays Runescape). And it restarts when I play any sort of game like Starcraft and such...Any of you geeks* out there know computers well?

Hey, I am in need of a little help once more. I need a something that will convert my movie files into something I can put onto my Ipod. All of the movies I downloaded are AVI and iTunes will not import them, any help.
My problem is that sometimes when my computer startsup, the microphone won't load in that my computer cannot hear anything that I say into either my attached microphone or my built in mircrophone. The problem persists whether I'm on Skype or on sound recorder, so I assume it's something that isn't loading properly. However, if I reset, it then seems to load properly. Any ideas as to how I can get it to load consistently? I'm fairly certain it only works after a reset now...

I don't know anything about built-in microphones, but if you have an external one that you're plugging into the audio jack, make sure it isn't muted. In Windows, you can double click the volume icon in the system tray to bring up the full volume control panel. You might need to click Options->Properties and check the box next to "Microphone" in order to display the volume control for it. After that, check to make sure the volume on the mic is turned up and the Mute box isn't checked. Hope that helps.
I have a minor annoyance of a problem but it's enough of a problem nonetheless. I have Windows XP Home and the title bar of whatever program I open somehow gets cutoff by the Windows Taskbar. Another odd occurence with this is that it only happens if the window opens maximized and when the taskbar is on top (I prefer it on top as I have a dock on the bottom and I find it easier to manage windows from the top rather than the bottom). Also, it goes away if I hide then restore the window so it does indeed make it a very minor problem but it annoys me since I have to hide then restore almost every window I open. See attached for what the problem looks like. Any clues anyone?
I've suspected for a long time that my hard drive was really, really slow, so today I finally bothered to download some benchmark software, and discovered it's transferring at a ridiculous 4 MB/s!
Are there any hardware settings I should check before shelling out the cash for a new drive?

Any ideas?

You can't, short of changing your ISP (which I'm pretty sure won't work anyway). You can however mask your ip address using an anonymous proxy server.
