Hey guys. I think I must have something like a router-modem combo, and I usually use wireless. But I want to connect my computer directly to the modem (no wireless) for speed purposes. How do I do that? The yellow ethernet cable is in the back of my laptop, but I can't find a way to go online when I switch wireless off, even though it's in.
I don't even get this far. I follow the instructions (remove ethernet from laptop, plug it into Internet port on the router; plug packaged ethernet cable into the port on the laptop and into the first ethernet port on the router; plug the router in) but when I do, the setup wizard tells me the ethernet cable is not connected properly. When I'm sure that they are.
The sick thing is that I set up a few wireless networks before and this is the first one to give me trouble at the physical installation stage.
I've had problems like this with every single router I've tried to install. Usually, just rebooting the modem helps. Also, are you sure the router is plugged into a power source? Out of curiosity, what router are you using?

Yeah, the router's plugged in (it's all lit up and twinkly). I'll try rebooting the modem. And it's a Linksys Wireless-N Gigabit.

If it's a router, wireless or not, shouldn't there just be a ton of ethernet ports you could plug it into?

Does anyone know how to ressurect a printer from the abyss of no return?
I have an HP psc 1209 that now totally refuses to print. A couple months of go it had a major paper jam, I fixed it after about 4 hours of tinkering and life went on. Recently the printer had started lagging terribly, ie I'd select to print something, it would start printing it after a fw minutes, only a line at a time and stop, wait ten minutes before printing a line or two again, and keep at it so that it takes an hour to print one page. OVer the past couple of days it refused to pritn at all and windows gave me a "cartridge stalled" message.
Problem is, there's no recent paper jam, and no obstructions, and the carriage can move fine back and forth. I went to HP's site and went through all of the releavent support reccomendations and nothing helped, all it did was make it worse. When I attempted their "reset" solution it sent the printer into a tizzy, it's now stuck on "blinking lights of death" mode. Whenever I turn the printer on it goes straight into this blinking mode, and I can't power it down via the on/off switch, I have to unplug it.
I checked their light debugging on their site and the only relavent thing that set of lights blinking means now is "fatal error" and of course, their website reccomends servicing it. It'd prob cost more to service the thing than what the original printer cost. I can't afford a new one right now, and I really need it to function to print resumes since i'm job hunting -_-;
Anyone have any ideas at all beyond a trash compacter for it?
I have a problem. I've just started using Windows Vista and it's okay and all but one thing about it that really annoys me is when I leave my cursor on a button for a prolonged period of time, the computer automatically clicks it for me. Is there any means by which I can stop this? I've looked everywhere on Control Panel. Please help!

what type of connection do you have? if it's cable net then it could be due to allot of other users in your area. Cable is fast but only if there's a few people in the area. If not cable try contacting your net provider and seeing if there are any known issues for your area.
Yurei:
by the sounds of it the printer is scrap. with those types of errors being givel it's probably a hardware malfunction now, possibly cracked/broken gears, any number of problems really. and at that it's probably not self repairable and would require parts which wouldnt be worth the cost in comparison to a new printer.
If you need to print things in the mean time remember that your local library probably has public access computers with printers avaliable for only a small charge.

that is an odd one that i havent heard of yet...could be an option of the mouse it's self...what type of mouse/notebook are you useing?
either way try looking here:

If you open up either the Master Volume (double click on the little speaker icon) or any audio manager you might have (such as Realtek) you might be able to mute certain channels, but I have no clue what they would be called or if you can even do this on your Laptop. On my desktop, I have "Front," "Rear," "Front Green In," "Rear Blue In," etc. These correspond to the various jack sockets (I have two in the front and about six in the back) and I can mute certain ones, make others louder or softer, and things like that.
This is the only way I would know how to do it.

I figured it might be something like that. It's too bad, the printer isn't even 4 years old. Thanks for the reply.

You work at HP? Then you should know how to fix my problem (despite the fact that you don't)! I'm using a HP Pavilion dv9930us Notebook PC. The mouse is a Synaptics Touchpad V6.3 that came with the laptop.

used to work for HP as Hardware support this would be a software issue (which i wasnt trained with that much) but there should be somewhere that you can change the settings for the touchpad (side scroll size ect) and there may be an option in there. to get there it should be in the totalcare program and if not then im not certain, try the hp webchat (accesable through their website and is free) and they should know where those options are.
with my hp experience i could diagnose your wireless card or run ya through swapping your ram without any problem tho.

I think I figured out my problem. Thanks!
I mistook the mouse as automatically clicking for me when what it was doing was the "tapping" function, which clicks on light contact of the touchpad. I guess if I press too hard and long at a point or if I accidentally touch the touchpad it'll click for me. I admit it's rather annoying but now I finally discovered what it is, I also find it rather convenient.
EDIT: So I have another problem. I need a RF coaxial cable for my TV tuner but there seems to be none conveniently lying around. The one they sell at the UCLA store are all RG## coaxial cables. So my question is, are RG coaxial cables a type of RF coaxial cable or are they something completely different? The store manager told me that the RG should work fine but I'm not so sure I should take his word for it. You see, most of the employees at the store are just student so it's meh.
I got a brand new computer (With Intel Quad, Radeon 4850), and am using my own monitor, a Videoseven L19WA, which doesn't need drivers to work. It worked fine on my previous computer, but for this one I need a VGA (Monitor) to DVI (Computer) adapter, and everything looks magenta. Does anyone know what's going on?
Is there anything new near your monitor with a magnetic field?
Does the monitor still, at this very moment, work with the older comp?
Try degaussing the monitor.
If that doesn't work, see if you can mess with either the video card's gama settings or the monitor's settings.

Apparently, Youtube doesn't like me. I can watch the first 2 seconds of any video, whether its loaded or not, and then it stops. Nothing works for it, even a hard refresh.

It's possible you have some bent pins in a connector that's causing one of the color channels to not get passed to the monitor. Take a look at all the cable and connector ends to see if a pin is bent or missing.
"Going magenta" is also a problem I've commonly seen as a precursor to inverter failure, which will make your LCD effectively impossible to use. Thankfully the DC inverter can be replaced at a smaller cost than replacing the entire LCD assembly.

I am no longer on MTGS staff, so please don't contact me asking me to do staff things. :|
Alot of MTG online sellers appear to have almost the EXACT same engine of HTML code/Javascript code/Website plugin that inventories and sells cards. is there somewhere I can download that code (for a price i assume?)
almost every MTG online seller uses the files listed below, i think they are the key to finding out where they got the code to begin with.
Hm. Don't think anyone can help, but it's worth a shot:

The reason I want to downgrade the firmware is to use some tech that...well, 3.3 obsoleted. I figure if I even try to talk to Nintendo, they'll just say: "Well, you can use that, but don't blame us if you void your warranty."
I've googled around a bit for an answer, but nothing easy or obvious comes up, as I'm not even sure where I would find the SD card slot if I wanted to directly use a downgrader program from online.
Any other thoughts would be helpful. Thanks for responding, though.
Never thought of that. I just assumed I was defective somehow. I'll try the ethernet cable that came with my PS3.
Yeah, and that didn't work. Same message. Crap.
