Ok, so I have a dell inspiron 530s in the slim case. The problem is i got a graphics card that i was told would work for that computer by someone(wont mention who*cough*my brother*cough*. Anyway we got the card, and it was too wide for the case, well, my brother got the idea of putting it into another bigger case.
Well when this was done, he realized that my computers guts would not fit in the case right. well he turns it on, it gets power, but it wont boot up, he put it back in the old case, still wont boot up.
We know its not the harddrive, put it in another computer and it boot up, so im wondering could it be the power supply or the motherboard. hopeing its the powersupply cause the ones for that computer are not that much on ebay.
But im coming to the techs of mtgsalvation to help me since this all took place during the week of christmas 2010 and my brother refuses to work on it
lets just say it turns into WWIII when me or my parents talk to him about working on mine and their computers(both went down at the same time)

2010? And you're just now working on it? Why didn't you buy a new computer in that time?
Anyways, I'm pretty sure he didn't hook it up right on the motherboard. It sounds like he barely knew what to do (no offense, it's a general estimate) judging by how you worded it. If he refuses to look at it though, there's no telling what the problem can be. Just get a new computer--400 bucks can get you something twice as good.
really right now, i cant afford a new computer, thanks to economy and such. originally paid 900 for the pc straight from dell. but im just trying to figure it out so that maybe i can scrape some cash together and try to fix it. I do alot of gameing and the computer more than handled any game i could throw at it.

ok, from the research ive done, most ppl that have the same problem have said its the power supply, but still not totally sure. tried building a computer from the spare parts my bro has from upgrading so much, but it wont boot up gets power but wont boot up, might be the asus p4pe motherboard for that one, but idk. would rather get dell working again considering the asus p4pe i think is older than my dells mother board like from the 2003 series, plz anyone is there anyone knowledgable about this that can help that wont just say buy a new computer.

if it is a standard dell power supply then it is only about 300 watts.
what video card did you buy?
if it was anything new nor decent that power supply will not support it.
if it isn't booting up then you have something hooked up wrong more so if the rest of the board is getting power.
there are only 2 things.
1. the HD is not hooked up correctly. make sure the bios is seeing the HD.
2. you have the new video card in there and your power supply is not strong enough.
if you are running any of the newer videos cards you need at least a 500-600 watt power supply.
