While you are correct, the English explanation of snow mana is grammatically vague. It should say "...can only be paid with..." to be grammatically correct, and I can see how some people can find that confusing.
In the future, perhaps the Coldsnap FAQ would be better to quote from. Although who knows why they made it clearer in the FAQ than in the rules...
Quote from Coldsnap FAQ »
* {S} in a cost represents a single generic mana, similar to the symbol {1} in a cost. It can be paid with one mana of any color, or one colorless mana, as long as that mana was produced by a snow permanent. For example, {S} can be paid with one mana produced by Snow-Covered Swamp or Boreal Druid, among others. It can't be paid with mana produced by the nonsnow permanents Swamp or Llanowar Elves.
By that logic, couldn't you pay 2 for Dimir Guildmage? I mean, you can pay (U/B) with U or B, but it doesn't say you can't also pay R or 1. Well nobody ever said there was a shortage of idiots on MWS.

Actually, yes you could by that logic. The problem is that many people playing on MWS (and quite a few in real life, too) do not utilize English as a native tongue. So all they have to go on is what they have learned so far, and the subtleties of "You can..." are not often understood until after many years of use.
Take small children, for example. Psychologists say that we learn more effectively and more efficiently at the beginning of our lives. But I have seen and heard of many children who do not understand that when a parent says "You can do [x] or [y]," it precludes the alternatives of [a], [b], [c], etc. This can be seen even up until adolescence, and many people learning English later in life have been speaking it for far less time than a 10-12 year old.
EDIT: Just to make it clear, I am talking about children who have actually said "Well, you didn't say that I couldn't do that." And while many people are consciously twisting words when they say this, many children truly do not understand that they were not allowed any other options based on the adult's statement.
The similarities in the psychology of young children and MWS idiots are similar for the obvious reason that a lot of the latter are the former. I'm not looking forward to MWS with the new hybrid symbols. It could be funny, if two people clash and reveal Beseech the Queen and someone explains how they won the clash somehow.

well... technically when you asked "Ok?" you were passing priority, and you need to do that before you pass priority. but i doubt that would have mattered
the only thing i don't like about mws is that everyone treats it like it is the finals of a ptq or something. I am there to play test. If someone mulligans, i let them draw 7. If they make a mistake I let them take it back. I am there to improve my deck, not to give a false impression that it is good.

<Player> N00b
System: Player lost.
Isn't that an inherent problem with clash anyways? It seems that "Player" would do the same thing for any two identical cards.
And I believe (speculation) that Beseech The Queen's CMC will be 6, 5, 4, and 3, similar to split cards, but on steroids.
A card can't have multiple powers or toughnesses, so I assume it has only one CMC, either 3 or 6, and time will tell which. I'm hoping for 6, but that's besides the point. Even if it has multiple values, Player is wrong because if he declares his card to be CMC 6 then I can do the same. That is, unless the new symbol has the worst rulings of any new mechanic ever made. Still, we know that something like that will happen eventually no matter what the mechanics say.

(In case someone doesn't get it... R//D actually has a "higher" manacost than itself, and thus you would get the counter, as will probably be the same case with Beseech)
Thank you for pointing that out Sutherlands. I was getting ready to look for the rulings on that in a minute, but I think we can safely assume your word is good enough.

I love this for three reasons. First I learned something about split cards that frankly confuses me. Second Sutherlands admits to using Bog Hoodlums to spite me, a hilarious add to a deck using Research//Development. What is this, a three or four color extended deck using Bog Hoodlums? Must get this decklist. Lastly though is that rather than edit the scenario where he explains how he in fact won the clash he calls me a N00b and disconnects. He could have changed the story to make himself look like the good guy but he would rather keep true to my scenario. I think most other people would have switched the names around, or somehow tried to turn it around into an insult. Okay I'm wrong in this little hypothetical, but at least I'm not wrong and a total jerk.
I am curious as to why I can't claim my R/D has CMC 5 in this situation (or frankly claim that they are both seven) but think I see what's going on. Sutherlands here controls the effect that is clashing, so he gets to pick which side of each card is being used. Am I right?

Nothing nearly that complicated. Or maybe more complicated.
R&D has a CMC of "5 and 2." Note, 5 AND 2. Not 7. When you flip it for Clash, you now have two values to compare. 5 > 2, so if both players flip R&D, both players win the Clash. Only one comparison has to be true to win the Clash. When you flip R&D, it simply asks the opposing card "Are you <5 or <2?" If the answer is yes to either, you win the Clash. Even if the CMC is 3 or 4, you still win.
When asking "is something true" for a split card, the answer is yes if any of the answers are yes. So when determining if you win the clash, you ask "Is 5 > 5? No. Is 5 > 2? Yes. Is 2 > 2? No. Is 2 > 5? No." Since there was one yes, the answer is yes. This comes out to be: My card has a higher CMC than your card. My card has the same CMC as your card. My card has a lower CMC than your card. Your card has a higher CMC than my card. Your card has the same CMC as my card. Your card has a lower CMC than my card. -- Since we both have a higher CMC than the other guy, we both win the clash.

Perhaps the wrong place for this discussion, but it is relevant.
Anyways, aren't the following statements equal?
My card has a higher CMC than your card. :: Your card has a lower CMC than my card.
My card has the same CMC as your card. :: Your card has the same CMC as my card.
My card has a lower CMC than your card. :: Your card has a higher CMC than my card.
Does the wording of the outcome affect who wins the clash? I didn't think so, but I can always be wrong. Could you boil it down to three statements?
My card has a higher CMC than your card.
Our cards have the same CMC.
Your card has a higher CMC than my card.
Yes, those 3 pairs are equivalent... the point I was trying to get across is that all 6 answers are answered with "Yes". Even though with normal logic, only 1 pair could be yes. If there was a card that gave you a bonus for having the lower CMC, it would matter.

Normally I am suspicious of any <System> Player Lost messages, but I have seen this happen before, both to my opponent and to myself. If there is a connection error, access violation error, etc. at the beginning of the game, it can sometime appear that the other person is still there for a while. Other people have thought that I was still around when I wasn't, and I have thought the same of opponents. I only discovered
this after talking with some of the other frequent users.

95% of the time that it's a genuine disconnect, it's because of an error caused by the first card being played, I have yet to figure out what it is, but it happens to me, and mostly to my opponents. First card goes down, I hear the noise the card makes as it's played, then there an error whenever I touch anything.
So if I had to guess, the opponent played a card before rolling, and it just happened to crash his games
After reading a Wizards article that included an Extended deck that makes use of Tallowisp that made top8 in a tournament lately, and I decided to make my own Legacy-legal version on MWS:
No less than 3 players I went up against today who has "serious" in the note of their game said something to the effect of "I said SERIOUS."
To me, there's nothing more infuriating than arrogant "pro" *******s that disparage and humiliate players who aren't playing the most popular decks in a given format.
I angrily told each of them off and left the game, as I simply couldn't stand being talked down to like that, as if I were wasting their time by playing against them with my Tallowisp deck.
Now, it would be one thing if these people were training for a big tournament or something, but if they were it serves them right for not saying something like "tier 1 only" or "preparing for PTQ" in their game note.
What do you guys think? Am I crazy? It's not like my deck includes any suboptimal parts - I was simply taking a chance by trying out something new (well, new to me anyway).
I'm fairly sure 2x Tarmogoyf is suboptimal (more please), as are the Spirit En Dals, Blessed Breath, and Lantern Kamis (less please),

I have to disagree with that statement, because it has been my experience that no one needs to play any cards before the crash. I know that my end has crashed numerous times before I have even drawn a card, and the same can be said for my opponents. I have spoken to a few people over the years that I have played multiple times, and they have confirmed that no action other than rolls and chat had been performed on their end. Yes, sometimes the game does crash when the first card is laid, but most of the time it is just plain bugs in the system, in my experience.
Of course, then there are the sore losers:

Despite the fun lesson about split cards, I'm pretty sure that I'm now right about this scenerio I posed earlier. It's official now that Beseech the Queen has CMC 6. I quote from MaRo's new article, Building Blocks, less than an hour old.
Quote from Mark Rosewater »
#2 – The mana symbols on Beseech the Queen are half a and half a . Yes, this is a new twist on hybrid. (And in other ways it isn't at all—but more on that during Beseech the Queen Week.) No, I'm not going to tell you how it works (although common sense should help). How does one figure out the converted mana cost of it and other cards like it (yes, there's more)? Don't worry, it's written on the card. ...Okay, okay, it's six. You can stop the email bombing now.
So maybe my future MWS log will happen as I originally foresaw. I'll have to have 4 X BtQ in every deck and play lots of mirror matches, but when this day comes I'll post about it here.
He said it was 6, not that it was "all of the above", so I'm going under the assumption for the moment that it's 6. Regardless of it's CMC though, at some point this sort of argument is going to come up and it'll make a good log is my point.

I've had that in reverse. I.e., I roll a 9 with the in-game dice and they say "I rolled a 7." That's not so much cheating as stupidity.

:symb::symr::symg:Jund:symb::symr::symg:
:symb::symr::symg:Jund:symb::symr::symg:
well... technically when you asked "Ok?" you were passing priority, and you need to do that before you pass priority. but i doubt that would have mattered
the only thing i don't like about mws is that everyone treats it like it is the finals of a ptq or something. I am there to play test. If someone mulligans, i let them draw 7. If they make a mistake I let them take it back. I am there to improve my deck, not to give a false impression that it is good.
so... how would that work? sounds like it would make for some fun discussions
Here's a hypothetical MWS from the future.
<Player> Bog Hoodlums

Player reveals Beseech the Queen from library
Kenaron reveals Beseech the Queen from library
Player puts a +1/+1 counter on Bog Hoodlums.
<Kenaron> Uh, WTF?
<Player> I have six, you have 3.
<Kenaron> It's the same card, we tie.

<Sutherlands> 5 > 2.
<Kenaron> It's the same card, we tie.
<Sutherlands> N00b
System: Player lost.
(In case someone doesn't get it... R//D actually has a "higher" manacost than itself, and thus you would get the counter, as will probably be the same case with Beseech)

Or does that produce different results somehow?

What's so hard about rolling the dice?
this after talking with some of the other frequent users.
:symb::symr::symg:Jund:symb::symr::symg:

Back to MWS idiots, here is a paraphrase. I am playing U/G Tron, he is playing some WW thing.
He plays 1st.
Him: W/U dual, Isamaru, go.
Me: Land, go.
Him: Bash, Lions, Island, go.
Me: Signet, ask ok.
Him: Dumb ass I'm playing White Weenie, of course ok.
Me: You have one blue open in a format with Spell Snare and Force Spike.
Him: **** you noob, die in a fire.
Disconnect.

So maybe my future MWS log will happen as I originally foresaw. I'll have to have 4 X BtQ in every deck and play lots of mirror matches, but when this day comes I'll post about it here.

I've had that in reverse. I.e., I roll a 9 with the in-game dice and they say "I rolled a 7." That's not so much cheating as stupidity.
