"Welcome to the World of Pokemon! My name is Professor Willow, but everyone just calls me the Pokemon Professor. What are Pokemon you ask? Well... Pokemon are special creatures that live on this earth with humans. Some keep them for company, others use them for work, and others still use them for battle. Myself, I study Pokemon.
Anything you need to know can be learned by asking me. I'm the world's foremost expert on Pokemon. The most frequently asked questions, however, are below."
Q. I'm new! What do I do?
A. Go to the Trainer Registration Center [character thread] with all the required information. You should also request a starting pokemon there.
Q. I'm registered and have a pokemon. What do I do now?
A. You can never go wrong by visiting me in my Lab. I usually have gifts and advice for beginning trainers.
Q. I went and visited, got my gifts, but I'm still lost. What do I do?
A. The World of Pokemon is a vast place, with many cities, trails, well-traveled routes, and nooks and crannies. Pokemon are everywhere, as are the trainers that care for them. Just look around, ask people for information, and have fun in your travels!
Q. I have more questions that you haven't answered. Where should I go?
A. Just ask me [post here or in the Lab] and I'll give you the answer!
Q. Can I control the time I enter somewhere in thread?
A. As long as there isn't someone else in there that controlled the time before you, you may. This will effect anyone else entering the thread, as long as you remain in that thread
Q. If money isn't an issue in this game, why are there poke marts?
A. Simply for roleplaying issues. A town without a pokemart won't be a town. Also, saying that you bought some pokeballs won't kill you will it? Buying pokeballs / potions will help us keep track of how many people are active, kind of like a census
Q. You forgot to update my thread! What should I do?
A. PM me (Faerie Lord), I'll update your thread. It's not that I don't want to answer you. It's that I'm human and forget people
I have a question!
Will you be deciding when the Pokemon evolve and what not?
Also, Pokemon that evolve by stone, such as Pikachu, will they be sold in stores or how would we obtain em'?

It's time to get out of the desert and into the sun.
Q. How will the evolution of Pokemon be decided?
A. Mostly by the mod, yes. Considering that pokemon are generally supposed to be equal, it will mostly be for flavor. It will likely happen along with a new move, when the pokemon has done something important. And, yes, evolution can be stopped.
Q. How will evolution stones be acquired?
A. Evolution stones will usually be acquired by job, mission, or other similar event. There may be a store eventually that sells them.
Q. Are pokemon limited to four moves?
A. No, pokemon will not forget old moves, though this will be trivial since most moves will still be similar and naturally available moves (like tackle) can be RPed
Q. What if a player wants to play an experienced character?
A. Very good question! You may, if you wish, play an experienced character. Recall, in the games, there were old men, veterans, and the like. Not all trainers were young. In fact, very few were, if you actually look. Veteran characters are fine to play. However, a veteran will be treated just like a newbie in terms of creation. You will receive a young pokemon regardless. However, a veteran character would know more about type match-ups, upcoming moves, and the like.
Q. How do Pokemon learn moves?
A. This is best shown by an example. Let me show you!
Quote from "Ash" »
Ash throws out his arm and calls out, "Pikachu! Use Thundershock!"
The Pikachu charges forwards, cheeks sparking, before it sends out a bolt of electricity to hit the Pidgey.
As you can see, we're in the middle of a battle here. Ash just ordered Pikachu to attack. Let's see what happens.
Quote from "The Mod" »
The Pidgey was hit by the thundershock. Its strength failed it and it fell out of the air to hit the ground, unconscious. Pikachu celebrates in its victory.
In its celebration, it charges up an attack and then discharges a grand bolt of electricity into the air, much more powerful than the standard Thundershock. Pikachu's head tilts to the side. "Chuu?" It attempts the move again.
Look! After defeating the Pidgey, Pikachu has found it has the strength and experience to attempt a much more powerful attack! However, all pokemon must memorize the technique, not just use it! Techniques are complicated, so a pokemon can only remember so much. If Ash wants his Pikachu to remember how to use this stronger attack, he must encourage it.
Quote from "Ash" »
Ash notices Pikachu's stronger attack. He watches in fascination before whooping and shouting, "That's right Pikachu! Use that Thunderbolt!" He moves closer to Pikachu, "Forget Tackle! Remember Thunderbolt!"
Here you can see Ash encouraging Pikachu's attack as well as naming it. A trainer has to name the attacks if they want to be able to command their pokemon to use them. He also tells Pikachu what he can forget so he can remember Thunderbolt.
Quote from "The Mod" »
Pikachu nods to Ash and uses the attack again. The rat then dances, having learned how to use Thunderbolt. It uses it once more. Unfortunately, Ash was too close, and got quite a shock.
And finally you can see Pikachu learning the attack. You can also see Ash getting too close and getting fried. A slight drawback of electric pokemon. But there you have it!
Lance stumbles in, smoking and burned from electricution.
"I have a question. Since the ghastly-haunter-gengar family have been known to pass through walls and other solid objects, could I command my ghastly, Shadow, to do the same?"
I also have a question somewhat related to Glamdring's. In the pokemon games, normal and fighting type moves don't affect ghost type pokemon, while ghost type moves don't affect normal type pokemon. How will this function in the Colosseum?
Q. Can the Ghastly family go through walls?
A. Yes. However, the mod will make sure this isn't broken. Remember, they can, objects they try to carry can't.
Q. How will the Ghost/Normal/Fighting interactions work?
A. Simply put, it stays the way the game usually works. Ghosts can't touch Normal, Normal and Fighting can't touch Ghosts. It works, if you think about it. Moves such as Foresight and the others work as usual. Changes are pending, though, if this proves to be an issue.
Don't treat this game like the actual Pokemon games. Your pokemon can easily pick up a rock and throw it at Sableye. Sableye is pretty much immune to a tackle, but it's not immune to Rock attacks, therefore a rock can hurt it. Remember, this is a ROLEPLAYING game. You're not restricted to just "Nincada attacks."
Q. Are Faint Attack and Swift guaranteed to hit.
A. Nope. First of all, that would be god modding. I know the game says they are guaranteed, but notice that if a pokemon uses Fly, neither Faint Attack nor Swift will hit it while it's in the air. As we're roleplaying here, I'm not giving any excuse for someone to just repeatedly insta-hit until an opponent is dead.
I'm assuming then that what attacks actually do are somewhat to our discretion? I mean, things like Flamethrower are obvious, but attacks like Double-Edge and Pursuit, not so much.
Q. How do attacks actually work?
A. If you've ever watched the shows, you'll know that attacks don't exactly work how they work in the games. Flamethrower, of course, will just be your pokemon spitting flame. But how about Agility? In one of the episodes, it was Ash vs. Lieutenant Surge. Surge had a Raichu that used Thunderbolt. Ash used Agility. Now, usually, Agility will just speed you up. In the show, Agility let Pikachu dodge the falling lightningbolts to get close to the Raichu.
So just think about how the move would actually look. What it would do. That can give you an idea of how you can use it.
Q. How can I RP at night?
A. If there is no one else actively on a thread, post that you enter at night. Then, as long as you are currently in that thread, it will be night for you and everyone that enters. The same goes for daytime, morning, dusk, and anything you want.
Q. How can I get other weather conditions?
A. That is an entirely modded thing. Unless you use an ability like Rain Dance.
Q. Are we limited to six pokemon?
A. Yup. Six or less is the deal. Your belt can't hold anymore, nor can a pouch, and it's dangerous letting pokeballs just bang together in a bag.
Q. What happens to the other ones I've caught?
A. They're held in a computer, back at the Pokecenter. Just go to one and switch out!
Q. How do pokemon abilities work, such as Lightningrod or Rock Head?
A. Deciding which ability to do is going a bit too in depth here. My advice is to pick the one that uses the least godmodding (in this case, Rock Head) and play as if you have that. Or just don't use either.
I would say trap effects (including Mean Look) are alright, but it would just be a case where you would be expected to use it reasonably- in other words, the effects would be taken pretty literally.
I'll let Nai handle the question on Pokeballs.

[16:23] Alacar Leoricar: maybe if you do it'll make the porn more meaningful
Q. How do abilities like Shadow Tag (opponent cannot switch out pokemon) work?
A. As Photon said, take it fairly literally. It shouldn't be too much of an issue. It isn't an effect that will really affect the game.
Q. Are pokeballs used up when thrown and missed?
A. Excellent question. Pokeballs are used up if they're damaged in the throw. Which will happen a lot. Hard impacts will break the pokeball, as will too much water. Sometimes you will get lucky, but, most of the time, pokeballs with no pokemon inside are expendable.
