Marr happened to spot a lively old fortune teller on the outskirts of the market. The shop was full of all manner of strange-looking things, from rocks and crystals, to Tarot cards and dusty books.
"I know some things, yes. What is it you seek, young one?" The fortune teller sat at her usual chair behind a table. There was a slight cackling from over her shoulder, and after a moment, a Misdreavus appeared looking intently at Marr and Gastly.
"The cliffs are a very spiritual place. Many people come from across the land to have their beloved pokemon buried there. Even people from across the seas have done so. With the high spiritual concentration, it has become a haven for some ghost and psychic types. That's where my little spook came from, I found her wandering the cemetary. Isn't that right, Dreamweaver?" The Misdreavus cooed at the mention of its name. "As for your mother, I know not of her whereabouts. Perhaps you might run across some other mystics at the cliffs who could help you. Also, beware of bugs, as they have also made a home around the cliffs."
"For you, dear child, I will give you a free reading. Now come, sit closer to me." The fortune teller gestured to a chair sitting on the other side of a table that was close at hand for the elderly woman. As Marr took the chair, she began by placing a dowsing crystal in his hands and holding them above what appeared to be a board with many arcane markings. "Excellent, now if you will just hold your hands there, and think about what it is you seek in these lands . . . . . " After a moment, the crystal began to move around the board, as if it was being controlled by something, but all hands were visible, and both Misdreavus and Gastly were not using any abilities. The pendulum swung around almost deliberately, and the fortune teller pulled out a crystal sphere sitting in a cluster of ametrine spires. She gazed into it momentarily, then looked up at Marr. "Your mother is lost to you, but know that she is safe from harm. She lives happily in a secluded area unknown to most people, and inaccessible to all but a special few. She is also well protected . . . Now, as for your adventures as a trainer, you should seek out the graveyard near a wall of mushrooms overlooking a series of cliffs, and eventually also a cavern of ice crystals. Your Gastly will prove a great ally in the trials to come, and his perfection will be achieved by the time you find your mother . . . "
"I've not been there, but I'm told of an island to the north of the region. Icepan Island, I believe it was called. There's a second ferry route from a mainland town that you can take to get to Icepan, but it's a rather difficult area to get through. All the ice and snow, and occasional wild creatures running amuck."
Gastly guided Marr to a second booth, there there was plentiful items for sale at decent prices. An older gentleman was working the booth at this time.
"Certainly, I can sell 5 pokeballs for 1100 if you want them. Though that's about all I can help you with. I tend to stay away from things that seem too strange for my taste."
