I know Raptor hasn't posted the update yet, but it's looking increasingly unlikely that I'll be able to post until really late tonight. I'd rather get this up now rather than wait until I get the chance afterward.
GP RACE
AMATEUR CLASS
MOSS CANYON Minefield
Difficulty:[■■■■□□]
The stadium and racetrack are built around a large canyon. Half the track is at the top of the canyon cliff, and half is down in the canyon's bed. The stadium seats approximately 70,000 people. Tall, strong guard rails prevent Pokémon from falling all the way down the canyon cliff while racing along the clifftop.
The opening race of the season attracted a near-capacity crowd. As the thirty trainers and their Pokémon stepped onto the track, the audience let out a roar of anticipation, banners supporting the various racers in the arena. There were a lot of them for Victoria and her Meganium, easily the local favorite around here.
The race's MC introduced the thirty participants and their Pokémon, one by one, followed by a performance of the national anthem. Finally, the MC handed the microphone to the head official for a prayer of safety for the racers, Pokémon, and everyone involved. Though the race was only AMATEUR CLASS, it was still the first race of the season. There was a great deal of excitement in the air. 90 miles per hour was by no means slow, either.
The thirty racers took their positions on the starting grid and awaited the countdown.

"The girl on the Rhyhorn is intriguing...I know there are tough girls out there, but she looks a bit scrawny for that thing," Josh thought. "That Stantler looks fast. Everyone here looks so fast." He pat Twilight's soft forehead scythe...gently. "Twilight, I'm just as nervous as you are. We can get through this together. We qualified for this race--that's a great accomplishment for us. Even if we get last, I'll still be happy just to be competing here. That doesn't mean hold back--just follow my lead and use your head like during the time trials and we'll place well. Pace yourself, Twilight--it's a long track!"
He saw a handful of Pokémon ahead of him rear in anticipation--and their riders' impatience. Those lights at the starting line were going to flash red, red, and green any second now.

A mere ten days after the Mending, a young knight of Valeron and a young ranger of Eos made a discovery that would change Alara forever.
Rai patted Garchomp preparing him for the start. He had no idea how he manage a pass with such a large pokemon as Garchomp. He planned to go all out from the start and leave the others the problem of how to pass. He and Garchomp tensed waiting for the light to turn green. He did spare a glance to the others in his row to note which pokemon they were.
OOC: Added a list of corresponding teams and Pokémon to the OP.
The giant scoreboard lit up with the status of all thirty competitiors.
READY?
Red.
Red.
GO!
The thunderous roar of thirty Pokémon crowding the track just past the starting line produced an incredibly powerful roar. No wonder officials had to wear earphones to hear anything each other were saying.
Josh couldn't wait for the traffic to spread out--he felt like he was boxed in among the outside wall and the Pokémon surrounding him and Twilight. The cries of Pokémon peppered the footfalls, as they stepped on and bumped into each other while jockeying for early position.
Obstacle 1: The track opens up with a gentle left turn along the stadium walls. The track's width increases and decreases periodically, but remains wide enough to accommodate at least three-wide traffic.
"Look for an opening in the traffic as it spreads out, and try to make a run, Twilight!" Josh shouted over the thunderous stampede.
The start of the race was chaotic--just like spectators and fans liked it. There were all manners of contact among the field, and a couple of Pokémon cries from it, too. Everywhere except up front, where Garchomp's Dragon Rush propelled Rai at incredible speed. "That boy's gonna be sorry when he crashes downstairs," one of the commentators noted aloud.
Obstacle 2: The track straightens out, but quickly narrows up, bottlenecking to a maximum of two-wide traffic. Racers often hog the center of the narrow pass to prevent other racers from getting in front of them. A pileup here can narrow the gap between the front and back of the field by quite a large margin.
Josh took a quick peek behind himself and Twilight, and found a Houndoom coming up on him fast. There wasn't a lot of room for the white Pokémon to maneuver, but there was more room between him and the Ninetales in front of him. "Twilight, cut him off!" There was a small window of opportunity to head through without being passed. (Normal)
Rai felt the wind rush past him as the other races ate his dust. Now he could concentrate on his race without the pressure of other racers interfering, at least at the start.
He slowed Garchomp down to concentrate on centering itself to get through the narrow pass. "Ease up, buddy."

Blasting ahead of the others, Garchomp and Ryoma extended their lead as the rest of the field tried their best to get through the narrow, traffic-filled gap. There was a lot of contact, both racer-to-racer and with the walls. Josh had to pull back on Twilight a bit, allowing a few competitors to pass him before he made his move. Several of the better qualifiers found themselves at the mercy of a traffic jam, losing lots of position to the field.
Obstacle 3: The track widens but not by much--anything more than two-wide traffic is just about impossible. A lazy, uphill 90-degree right turn follows the stadium walls, right below one of three skyboxes the facility features. Not a tough turn, but the narrow track makes the penalty for misjudging it steep.
Twilight and Josh tried to veer toward the outside of the sharp turn, but so did everyone else. There was all kinds of contact going on behind him and to his left. For a second, he was unsure if his Pokémon could make it through without slowing down. By the time he decided, it was too late. He was going to bounce off someone to make it through this turn, if need be.

Josh and Twilight could hear a lot of cries from farther back in the field. Perhaps several new racers had learned the difference between time trial and an actual race--little room to maneuver, especially early on. He and a Mightyena made contact in the turn, Josh's inside position making the difference as he came out of the turn a spot or two in front of where he was before. "Come on, Twilight, see if you can find some room to maneuver! We can catch the front!"
Speaking of the front, it was all smooth sailing for Ryoma and his Garchomp. A Mightyena was catching up to him quickly, though the dark-type's rider wasn't sure how long that would last, as crazy as the dragon-type was off the line.

Obstacle 4: The track remains narrow for a series of lazy S-curves--not hard to take, and one of the best places to make a passing run on the upper half. If a Pokémon does take a spill here, though, it can be difficult to recover from being on the outside of one of the curves.
Confident in his performance Rai spared a glance backwards, slowing Garchomp a hair. Je was alarmed to see how fast a few of the other racers were eating into his lead. "Man, those other racers aren't giving up. Push it, Garchomp!" Garchomp resumed his blistering pace, seeking to keep his shrinking lead.
"These curves were easy for you in qualifying, Twilight!" Josh encouraged his dark-type. "Graze the apexes and Quick Attack as soon as you get an opening!" As it turned out, most of the competition was also looking to blast through the gentle turns. He could even hear Rock Polish shouts behind him.

Obstacle 5: The track finally starts to show its true colors here. Its widening is designed to lull riders into a false relief, as it is quickly followed by a pair of switchback 120-degree turns. It is entirely possible for less thick-skinned racers and Pokémon to wipe out completely on this pair of tough turns.
Rai was shocked that he was passed so quickly, and a difficult turn was coming up.
Rai attacked the turns more recklessly than he did in his trial run. He still had Garchomp use his claws to great effect. "Garchomp, dig in those claws! This turn is going to be tough!"
Josh pulled back hard on Twilight. "I know you're doing well, but ease up! We don't want to crash into a wall!" He took a quick glimpse back. "You got all kinds of room--use all the track if you have to!"

Using all the track got the Absol through the sharp turns, but it also got him passed by some Pokémon that could grip the ground better than Josh's Pokémon could. He had no delusions of winning this race--just getting here was an honor for him. The experience from this race would be a great teacher. He would definitely need to keep his eyes open for a sixth Pokémon that could shore up his weaknesses on the track.
In a fit of borderline rage, Garchomp slammed his claws into the ground, Rai being yanked hard from one side to the other as the dragon-type bolted through the sharp turns. He was up against some Pokémon that seemed built for racing as a Luxray, Mightyena, and Stantler all passed him.

Obstacle 6: After a very short straightaway, the course goes all-out on its racers again, featuring two lazy 180s back to back. The track is wider and the curves aren't as tight--just long. By running along the inside of one, it's easy to slide past the apex of the other.
Josh remembered Twilight was able to slide through this curve very well last time, and gave him the order to do so again. "The field's pretty spread out now--you have all kinds of room to maneuver! We're going to lose all kinds of ground on the big ramp. Let's make some up here!" (Normal)

The rest of the field seemed to put in the effort to maintain position before the big leap, too--Josh gained a little ground, but not much. "Get ready, Twilight!" He had to brace himself, too. Though he had done it before, the speed at which they'd come out of the leap was still blisteringly fast.
Garchomp's rage was peaking after being passed even more. Rai was a bit worried that he wouldn't be able to compose himself on the way down. The speed he'd achieve going down that hill would blow his mind.
Josh caught a glimpse of the strange-shaped Pokémon as he approached the cliff's edge. "I've never seen anything like that before...I'll have to try meeting him after the race."

Obstacle 7: This is it. The biggest jump currently on a Pokémon Racing Federation official track. Teams leap downward over a hundred and fifty feet, onto a long slope that slants further downward. It's not uncommon to come down the slope at speeds faster than even Extreme Speed will let it run. Make sure to go fast enough to clear the canyon cliff, or a certain wipeout will occur.
Garchomp was enraged but Rai was pleased how well he had taken the turn. He had not lost any position and Garchomp's fury should prove useful on the jump.
Rai didn't need to utter a word. Garchomp sped up to its near-legendary take off velocity and then made a mighty leap with a quickened step, soaring through the air...
Josh could hear a vicious, loud cry from a Pokémon ahead of him. Maybe one of the racers ahead of him had wiped out? In any case, he was going to fall way behind if he didn't push for position here. "Floor it, Twilight--Quick Attack!"

As he fell down to the ramp leading to the canyon floor, Josh couldn't help but let out another joyful scream. He wasn't the only one screaming, either--about half the racers couldn't help but do so. The rush only lasted for twenty or so seconds, but he enjoyed every moment of it, the bottom of the canyon flying by.
Not even the Double-Teaming mirages of competitors could keep up with Garchomp's rocket-like burst of speed off the cliff. He shot past all the competition that had passed him before, making everyone eat his dust. By the time Rai reached the bottom of the hill, he was almost four seconds ahead of everyone else.

Obstacle 8: Immediately after this track's claim to fame is its other claim to fame--the "minefields" of rock spires that dot the canyon floor. Racers typically weave around the seemingly randomly-placed hunks of rock, but racers confident in the strength of their Pokémon can bash right through. Racers may take a steep Endurance penalty to bash through this Obstacle.
WHEEEEEEEEEEEE! Rai smiled wide as Garchomp jumped, keeping a secure grip. The scenery didn`t just fly by, didn`t just blur, but reality itself seemed to change in that instant of pure speed, assaulting him with a barrage of random colors.
Garchomp roared with delight as he landed, even impressing himself with his excellent jump. The landing brought Rai back to himself, lost in the moment of speed. He saw the spires and warned Garchomp to be careful. "Watch yourself, ease up where you need to."
"Easy, Twilight!" Josh shouted as the white-furred Pokémon slowed to the point where he could see clearly again. The first spire field was coming up, and both of them had to concentrate to make it through without ramming into, or even brushing, any of them. (Normal)

Garchomp continued to protect his lead, trying to conserve Rai's stamina with smaller lateral movement while "swimming" among the pillars. Twilight got through all the same, though his turning was much more taxing on Josh. Both of them understood just how much of a team effort racing Pokémon was.

Obstacle 9: A gently-curving tunnel generally impossible to pass in. Not a difficult turn, but the lack of width makes it easy to rub the rock walls and lose speed.
Garchomp gracefully avoided the spires without shaking Rai around very much at all.
Rai smiled at the narrow tunnel. With Garchomp`s girth they wouldn`t be able to get around easily. Then he heard the other racers closing rapidly and fast. "Garchomp, don`t let those pokemon push you into the wall. If they try anything, show them your power!" Garchomp roared its agreement as it took the tunnel at its maximum speed.
It wasn't the wall that Josh was worried about--it was being rammed from behind. There was no way any sane individual would try to pass here. Of course, with the lighting being less than ideal, racers might not able to see each other. Though Twilight's fur made him most visible of the Pokémon around him, it might not be enough. All he could do was press on, and Hope//Pray. (Normal)

"Look out, Twilight!" Josh shouted as he saw a Luxray prancing about on the left side of the tunnel. Josh raised his feet all the way up to his mount's side and practically laid on top of him. The rider could feel his shoe graze the right wall as he passed the bucking Pokémon. On the way out, Twilight sounded another cry, this one from being rammed from behind during the confusion of the accident. A faint warning siren played through the participant's helmet, though it was more annoying than useful. If he wasn't careful, he'd suffer the same fate as that young trainer did.

Obstacle 10: The narrow tunnel opens into a sharp corner followed by a second field of spires, much more densely populated. The width of the field makes the danger of collision between racers very real. Racers may take a steep Endurance penalty to bash through this Obstacle.
Garchomp was rammed hard by an opposing Dodrio. However, it kept going and maintained its speed, not allowing it to pass.
"Good job, now ease up for those spires. Don't go knocking into anyone else if you can help it, this portion is tough enough on me as it is." said Rai disguising a concern for himself when his true goal was to keep Garchomp from getting damaged even further.
I found a couple discrepancies between the last update and this one, but the damage is too challenging to fix. I made doubly sure the totals for this update are correct. Like anyone pays close enough attention to the AIs anyway...
Josh was concerned for his Pokémon, as well. He could feel a small limp in Twilight's gallop...well, by racing standards, a limp. "Take the outside if you have to--just don't bang into the course or anyone else!" Twilight nodded, then squinted.

Rai's and Josh's hair both stood on end when they heard the cries of two Ninetales. Behind them, the two fire-types weaved around the spires and into each other, bouncing off one another and into the next pillar. The impact sent the riders flying off their Pokémon and into the rock formation, as well. Once everyone had moved on to the tunnel leading to the next spire, emergency crews descended to the canyon floor and began transporting them off the race track.

Obstacle 11: Another narrow tunnel with 90-degree turns leading both in and out of it--left at the entrance, right at the exit. Not a recommended place to try passing, but it's definitely possible.
Without the narrow tunnel to block the others passing, three racers passed Rai and Garchomp to their mutual displeasure. Garchomp growled in annoyance. Rai tried to calm him down to focus on the turns coming up.
Rai urged Garchomp to greater and greater speed hoping to limit the ground gained by his more agile competitors. "Patience buddy, we'll get them back on the straightaway. Just focus on the turn." Rai hoped Garchomp would heed his words and keep his rage in check for just a little longer.

AMATEUR CLASS

He saw a handful of Pokémon ahead of him rear in anticipation--and their riders' impatience. Those lights at the starting line were going to flash red, red, and green any second now.

The giant scoreboard lit up with the status of all thirty competitiors.
READY?
Red.

Emille, Seven-Sting Dancer Shalin Nariya
"DRAGON RUSH!"
Garchomp burst off the line seeking to leave everyone far behind. Rai concentrated all his effort on not falling off his boosting pokemon.

(Normal)

Emille, Seven-Sting Dancer Shalin Nariya
Rai seeing the easy turns, had Garchomp go full blast. "Come on, Garchomp! Attack those turns!"
Action: Normal

Action: Slowdown 1
[DICE] 20 [/DICE]
Obstacle 5: The track finally starts to show its true colors here. Its widening is designed to lull riders into a false relief, as it is quickly followed by a pair of switchback 120-degree turns. It is entirely possible for less thick-skinned racers and Pokémon to wipe out completely on this pair of tough turns.
Emille, Seven-Sting Dancer Shalin Nariya
Rai attacked the turns more recklessly than he did in his trial run. He still had Garchomp use his claws to great effect. "Garchomp, dig in those claws! This turn is going to be tough!"

Slowdown-10

Rai let Garchomp do its thing, allowing to tear into the course at full speed.

Emille, Seven-Sting Dancer Shalin Nariya
Rai didn't need to utter a word. Garchomp sped up to its near-legendary take off velocity and then made a mighty leap with a quickened step, soaring through the air...
Action: Boost (Quick Attack)
[DICE] 20 [/DICE]
Emille, Seven-Sting Dancer Shalin Nariya
Garchomp roared with delight as he landed, even impressing himself with his excellent jump. The landing brought Rai back to himself, lost in the moment of speed. He saw the spires and warned Garchomp to be careful. "Watch yourself, ease up where you need to."
Action: Slowdown 2
[DICE] 20 [/DICE]
Garchomp continued to protect his lead, trying to conserve Rai's stamina with smaller lateral movement while "swimming" among the pillars. Twilight got through all the same, though his turning was much more taxing on Josh. Both of them understood just how much of a team effort racing Pokémon was.
Obstacle 9: A gently-curving tunnel generally impossible to pass in. Not a difficult turn, but the lack of width makes it easy to rub the rock walls and lose speed.
Emille, Seven-Sting Dancer Shalin Nariya
Rai smiled at the narrow tunnel. With Garchomp`s girth they wouldn`t be able to get around easily. Then he heard the other racers closing rapidly and fast. "Garchomp, don`t let those pokemon push you into the wall. If they try anything, show them your power!" Garchomp roared its agreement as it took the tunnel at its maximum speed.
Action: Normal
[DICE] 20 [/DICE]
Emille, Seven-Sting Dancer Shalin Nariya
"Good job, now ease up for those spires. Don't go knocking into anyone else if you can help it, this portion is tough enough on me as it is." said Rai disguising a concern for himself when his true goal was to keep Garchomp from getting damaged even further.
Action: Slowdown 4
[DICE] 20 [/DICE]
Emille, Seven-Sting Dancer Shalin Nariya
Rai urged Garchomp to greater and greater speed hoping to limit the ground gained by his more agile competitors. "Patience buddy, we'll get them back on the straightaway. Just focus on the turn." Rai hoped Garchomp would heed his words and keep his rage in check for just a little longer.
