Duana's champagne flutes, the both of them, shattered as they hit the floor. She wanted to give the councilor at her side a quick look, maybe he knew something about what was happening, but she found it impossible to look away.
**Loren wasn't interested in catching the eye of a goddess of despair, quite frankly that was tantamount to going for a night's skinny dip in manjor invested waters. He was content to sit back and watch what transpired.**
Jadis - "I have been thinking about you all so much for these long, long centuries... worrying endlessly about your petty concerns, the constant hardship of your days...and I arrive here disturbed to realize that none of you have noticed my absence..."
**Then she turned, and Gamble knew in his heart that she was looking right into his eyes.**
Jadis - "...save for you, the one they call Highgrove. You know me better than any of my children."

Sing lustily and with good courage.
Be aware of singing as if you were half dead,
or half asleep:
but lift your voice with strength.
Be no more afraid of your voice now,
nor more ashamed of its being heard,
than when you sang the songs of Satan.
Odd looked toward Gamble for a short moment. He wasn't sure if the man was doomed or saved, but he did know that the man didn't want to be involved by the look on his face.
**Ren made a mental note to look into Greevan's pantheon... in the meantime, he found a still full and undamaged champagne and proceeded to drain in one go.**
**She shook her head, spreading her arms wide. Her smile was fading.**
Jadis - "But as for the rest of you... I am not a jealous mother, nor a cruel one. But what sort of mother would I be if I did not punish my children?"
**Behind her, the band fell to the floor, convulsing. So too did a number of the nobles in the audience, including the elf Duana had been seducing--evidently, all members of the council.**
Jadis - "But..."
**The convulsing stopped. They were visibly breathing, but only barely.**
Jadis - "...I am not unreasonable. I will allow you back into my good graces, but I will require things of you first."

The immediate shock began fading silghtly, rationalism slowly creeping, though still held in place by fear, and still insecure as to how well she'll survive the night. Duana began developing an affection towards the woman; she wasn't sure what she was yet, and her words spoke poorly of her sanity, but there was no denying her power. And Duana flocks to power like a moth to a flame, or someone writing to an easy, overused cliche of a simile.
If only she had better nerves, she might have actually asked her 'what'.
**Ren was patiently waiting behind his table with only mild interest at what Jadis wanted of them, however he got his hands on a strewn crab cake with quite a lot of excitement. What he wasn't doing, was looking around to see who would have the courage to speak up to her, because surely no one was that stupid. Though the garr was clearly mazed, or else just plain foolhardy.**
**Strom, and Strom alone, suddenly had a vision: he was in a darkened space, alone except for Jadis, who stood before him in all of her terrible majesty. She snarled at him, and spat at his feet, her spit searing his stony flesh. He only heard two words before the vision ended:**
Jadis - "Stonedog scum."
--
**Jadis smiled again.**
Jadis - "Come, let us depart."
**Above them, blinding white portals opened, sucking people up into them--but only some of them. Gamble certainly felt the pull, which was stronger than anything he had ever felt. So too did everyone else who is a PC here, because that's convenient, and a couple of random Greevanites, who drifted slowly but inexorably toward the tears in the fabric of the universe.**
