Pacifica -- all the islands of modern-day Earth's Pacific Ocean. This is the guide for the action-packed, thrilling adventures you will experience there. (This thread serves as a FAQ of sorts for getting started in Pacifica and how to play once you're ready.)
Q: What's the World Project all about? A: The Pacific Ocean is a place full of treasure and excitement, and it's all yours to explore in Pacifica. In this game, you'll travel to different islands on quests for treasure. You're free to do whatever you please and act however you want here -- steal a boat, chop down a tree, kill a partner, whatever. Since this all takes place in modern times, technology such as boats and guns will all appear while playing. Player-player interaction is a huge part of Pacifica -- you're going to run into people all the time in this game.
Q: So, how do I get started? A: You'll need to go here and follow the instructions on creating a character, and once you're done with that you'll follow the WPL's instructions after your character is approved. You might want to check out this thread too if you aren't sure about roleplaying in general.
Q: Can I die in Pacifica? A: There's always that risk in an environment like the Pacific, between the traps, untrustworthy comrades, and fighting in general. So, yes, you're going to die. However, characters can take several shots before they're dead -- no one shot kills, unless you somehow manage to get your target in a hostage position with a gun at their head -- and the gunplay will be monitored to keep things fairly under control. When your character dies, they are officially dead, and they're not to be used anymore. You'll update your player profile that your current character has died; if you wish to continue playing you're free to make a new character and post him in the registration thread for approval and start playing again.
When you're roleplaying, you don't finish your post by saying your bullet hit your target and splattered their blood everywhere. That's for the WPL "narrator" to decide.
Q: What's a player profile? A: Your player profile is basically your record of playing -- you'll keep all of your treasures obtained, quests completed, money obtained, and your character profiles (whether deceased or active), in your player profile. You'll keep it updated quite a bit.
Q: How does this whole thing work, with quests and all? A: Pacifica, like most World Projects, is relatively quest-oriented. Quests are somewhat short storylines for anywhere from one to half a dozen characters. Quests are stickied in the main forum. I'll make a quest thread for players I've or an NPC has thrown into a situation on an island thread so they can continue it elsewhere. You'll just continue where you left off pretty much. So no random characters arrive, the island the quest is on's thread may actually be locked for the time being, until it's over. "Public" quests are quests that will be open to the public, essentially; information on them, like what to do to join them, can be found in the quest thread. These quests are usually based on events. NOTE: You can't be in two or more quests at a time, and you can't post anywhere else while you're in a quest.
All right -- Pacifica, like most World Projects, is relatively quest-oriented.
Q: What about ammo? A: For simplicity's sake, ammo doesn't exist, as in you don't have to say how much is left in your gun. But, I might say that you're out of ammo if you've been using your gun a lot lately, just to make things interesting.
