"I wish I had something like that. Estark's a long walk back." She points to the elephant. "Anything I summon'll eat pedestrians, or isn't large enough."

I suppose it's true. Though the logistics implied in a human/Great Wyrm Prismatic Dragon pairing makes me shudder.
...Something tells me that even should all arcane casters in the world unite, that the Grease spell would NOT be sufficient.
Xen dismounted from his Armodon and gestures for Deraxas to get on saying, "Here take my Armodon. It's a summon so I will keep it active as long as possible but at least your feet will get a rest."
The saproling on her shoulder jumps down and sniffs at his feet, jumping up and down a little at whatever he senses.
He climbs back up with an emphatic happy "SQUEAK!"
"Thank you, mage." It's evident by her tone that these are not words that she usually uses. "I suppose I owe you something....you look to be headed into there. It's not hospitable for a nature-mage, not at all." She indicates the city.
"My name is Deraxas of house Shimia, and recently of the Golgari." A frown touches her lips, but quickly fades.
And yes, no incantatrix for you. Or anyone. That class makes puppies cry. Mostly because they are the former Big Bads who have been Baleful Polymorphed into said puppies. By you. Because you're an incantatrix.

Xen smiles and replies, "I am Xen Anastan of House Shanodia. I've been to Ravnica once before, the Agyrem specifically."
Pointing to the city he said, "My Great Aunt unknowingly taught me a lesson inherent to Ravnica. Though the trees and forests may be gone, the essence of forest mana still resides within all of the life of Ravnica. The jungles and forests of Ravnica are alien to those that do not live here, but the essence is still the same. Though the city may seem inhospitable to a nature mage one need only alter their view to see the vibrant life of nature that the city itself embodies."
"I understand this lesson and come to Ravnica to learn about a new essence. It's how I hope to better understand the teachings of the five mana's. I know the philosophies of each color of mana. But I so far I only understand the embodiment and essence of the Forests."
Shaking his head he lets out a laugh saying, "I have a great deal to learn in this life of mine. Forgive me my musing there. Years of meditation in the woods of our world have made me a pensive fellow."
Almost interrupting to ask questions, but remembering something of the first lesson that Kylfor taught her, she allows him to finish.
"The spires of the towers are not the trees, though- and it seems choked off, especially to one such as myself, who was born in a shaped forest. But thought of in that way, my people's gilding and training of Nature is perhaps no different from the Ravnican's way of placing stone and steel over the flow of power that resides in every place. Power is, you know- in everything, I suppose."
I should have known he was a Shanodian. Fitting enough.
"What do you desire to learn, here? You must first know a thing before you can learn it. That might not seem to make sense, but it does. The powers- yes, they're distinct, but some are less....desirable."

Xen's smile deepened as Deraxas talked. Answering her question Xen pointed to the open plains by the road leading to Estark and then to the sun saying, "My Great Aunt was of Selesnya and able to channel the plains mana. I first learned to tap into the forest mana due to family and figured that I might as well learn plains mana as it was family that helped me develop this view on mana."
Deraxas wasn't sure but it seemed that a haunting memory seemed to surface to Xen's face when he was talking about learning to tap into forest mana due to family.
"My mother was a leafshaper and a master of green mana in her own right. I am following her path now, after mastering black mana. I don't know anything of the Selesnya, though for your sake I hope their mistress is...kinder than that of the Golgari. I sensed she did not wish me there." Deraxas's tone is bitter, as if used to that sort of treatment.
"I shall let you continue your path, then... I am tired, very tired, as I was led on a wild chase through half the city. Then next time you see Rofellos, tell him Deraxas says hello."
Before attempting to climb the huge beast, she turns.
"I don't suppose you've seen a man by the name of Aramil?"

Xen shakes his head saying, "No, I don't believe I have. I actually only know a few mages from Estark. I've been busy doing missions for Shanodia that I didn't get the chance to socialize with many mages."
Tilting his head Xen snaps his fingers as he realizes something saying, "Oh! I thought I heard his name among the various rumors and gossip among Estark's streets after the incident. Though I heard a lot of things from planeswalkers and demons all the way to another phyrexian invasion on those streets. The only clear fact I could get though is that Lat-Nam now has a huge hole for their front entrance and that there were several explosions involved. Aramil's name was only mentioned in several peoples stories."
With a shrug he says, "If I recall correctly the gossip and rumors contradicted each other by saying Aramil summoned a demon horde while others said he summoned a planeswalker. Still there were more rumors about Aramil's lover fighting the masters of Lat-Nam."
Again Xen dismissed them saying, "But these are the fanciful tales of the city's residents so I'm not sure how much faith you can put into those stories."
"Yeah, I thought not. Lat-Nam indeed has a large burned spot in front of it...no great loss....I suppose I will just wait a little while, and then try again."
She climbs her way up onto the Armodon and then looks down...and immediately wishes she hadn't.
Ye gods, I hate heights....
She sways a little before righting herself visibly, only a little pale.
"I thank you, Xen, for your aid and words. Good luck to you." She offers a rare smile, before trying to figure out how to tell the creature where she wanted to go.
"Estark?" she muttered near its ear. "Or are you rather like a cervin...oh, the reins. I see."
She heads off back towards home, hoping the summon would last long enough.

Xen smiles and waves goodbye to both Deraxas and the little sprout. Then turning he heads for a shaded spot by the gate and sits down for meditation. He was intrigued by the situation and wanted to see how long he could maintain a summon the further it grew from him. Thus he turned inward and focused his mind on the Armodon picturing it as a green thread in a black void. Then drawing upon his mana he focused a tiny pulse of energy into the thread causing it to grow in length, a reflection of the distance it grew from Xen. He continued to do this for as long as possible truly interested in the results.
Xen keeps his eyes closed in amusement and responds in a kind tone, "You are mistaken if you believe me to be asleep. I am simply meditating while waiting for one such as you to give me admittance to the city. My business is simple: I wish to speak with the Selesnya Conclave on several matters. One such matter being possible admittance into their guild."
Opening his eyes Xen turns his head slowly with a questioning look on his face saying, "Or am I mistaken about you?"
Xen makes sure to finish the question with a smile on his face.
Xen stood and walked behind the man asking, "Would be you be kind enough to give me directions to the Selesnya Conclave? I ask because this is only my second visit to Ravnica."
Tai approached the city gates, somewhat breathless, but regained his composure. "My name is Tai D'Angelo, of the Selesnyan Guild. I wish to visit the Conclave, if you will."
Wynn approaches the gates to Ravnica. So many things have happened since she was here last, and yet the place seemed to have not changed at all, the sparkling splendor shining in the warm sunlight.
Of course she wasn't there to sight-see, she was there on business. So as she approached the gate, she saluted the guards and drew her signet necklace out, the sunlight reflecting off it brightly. With her proof of guildship intact, she slowly entered the city.

After spending much time getting reacquainted with Estark, Kagdinel heads down the road to Ravnica, arriving at a large pair of gates. He approaches the guard, and inquires about how to gain entrance to the city.
I wonder why that elf is looking down at her feet for?
I hope she doesn't plan on walking all the way back to Estark that way...
"I wish I had something like that. Estark's a long walk back." She points to the elephant. "Anything I summon'll eat pedestrians, or isn't large enough."
"Squeak."
