"I imagine because you two are the only casters in his caravan, he probably feels a sense of security having you two close at hand should any goblin raiders strike." said the manservant with a small tilted bow.
Having quietly taken his breakfast from the tray when Genesius was distracted talking, Mar takes a loud bite out of his breakfast to attract attention. Though he appears to be still almost-asleep, his voice is clear."No need to wait for me to wake up. If I wasn't awake enough to function, I wouldn't be awake." Stretching himself out, Mar picks up and leans heavily on his staff. Suppressing a yawn, he continues "And even asleep, I'm sure we're capable of dealing with a goblin raid." As he stretches out again, he gestures to go ahead, and that he'll be along in just a moment.
"Works for me." said Genesius beaming. With that, he quickly sprang out of his cot and followed the manservant out the tent towards the merchant's cart.
Several servants and guards begin packing up the inside of the tent making a lot of noise while Mar continues to wake up and finish his breakfast.
Genesius is quickly led to the lead cart where the merchant is sitting, riding hat lowered over his eyes to block out the rising sun. Hearing Genesius approach he asked, "Sleep well?"
"Nice hat. Yes, I did, thanks for asking. Yourself?" Even though it's rather early, Genesius still manages to maintain a cheery grin. Does he ever stop smiling?
"It's painful when humans do it, but at least then there's the chance of prisoners being taken." commented the merchant. "But when goblins are involved there are no prisoners. They simply eat anything and everything they can get their damned hands on."
Mar picks this moment to appear. "Yes, they are but... they have their uses." He gives a rather feral grin. "Much as I hate to admit it, sometimes reason and logic just can't get through to people." Mar shakes his had sadly. "But I admit they are a lot easier to work with once dead."
Mar nods yes, then moves up to the small group, his satchel with all belongings that he needs for fast travel on his shoulder. "Anything interesting happen overnight?"
I'm going to pick up my posting rate to a more acceptable amount about mid-august. Sorry about the delays caused by my lack of posting. Anyway, feel free to advance the plot with Mar quietly listening and plotting off to the side if need be, until my input is needed.
The merchant smiled pleasantly at the question saying with glee, "Not a thing, thank the light."
The merchant caught sight of a resting soldier which in turned earned the soldier a chewing out as the merchant screamed for him to get the caravan moving.
The merchant looked back at Mar saying, "Why do you ask?"
"Oh, no reason. I just like to keep up with the goings on. Easier to not fall into the middle of disputes or interfere with others that way," Mar replies lightly. "But I think I'm ready to head off now."
During this bit of conversation, Genesius had fallen asleep on one of the seats next to the merchant just after waving hello when Mar appeared. It's not that he thought Mar's words were not worthy of attention. No, quite the opposite. It's just that the pyromancer was very unaccustomed to getting up at the crack of dawn. Very very unaccustomed. Fevvers, however, looked as alert and vigilant as ever, apparently not noticing or caring that her companion had drifted of to dreamland. It seemed like she was quite used to getting up before he did.
Mar looked directly at Fevvers. "I suspect you are more intelligent than I suspect. Mind waking up your... partner? I think we should be on our way before the caravan proper is on its way; if the goblins will attack it, they certainly will attack a pair of travelers, and I'm sure Genesius wouldn't want to miss all the ... fun." While the last portion was more Mar musing out loud than talking to the bird or the caravan master, Mar was still curious to whether Genesius's constant companion would understand, or care, or more importantly, nudge him awake. After all, waking up those who played with the forces of magic could be a dangerous job.
Fevvers only blinked at Mar after he had finished speaking. After a short moment, she turned her head towards Genesius and gave him a hard peck on the side of the head.
"OW! Fevvers, pleeeaaaaaassssseeeee...so sleepy..." whimpered Genesius, eyes watering from his second wake-up call.
Once he turned to look at her, she immediately flew off his shoulder and circled overhead Mar three times before returning to her perch.
"Mar? You asked her to do this? But...why?" asked Genesius in a hurt voice. However, he may not have been too tired to act a little overdramatic in that moment.
"Hard to move out when you're asleep. I am of the opinion that we should head out now, not as part of the caravan, so as to draw out assaults." Mar's tone shifts towards the amused. "And I wanted to test something. Thank you Fevvers."
Fevvers nodded in response to Mar's thanks and then nuzzled Genesius' head with her beak, as if apologizing for the peck.
"It's alright, Fevvers. You had to wake me, I understand." Genesius says gently. He then turns to Mar. "Heading out...not as a part of the caravan? As bait? ...Fine by me."
Genesius springs out of his seat with his usual grin on his face. "Ready whenever you are."
Mar turns to the caravan owner. "Thank you for your hospitality, but as I said, we're better off preceding you; I know that one of my better tricks is embarrassingly indiscriminate. Safe Travels, and may your roads be clear."
Checking his staff and satchel, Mar heads for the path at large. "Well, I'm ready. Let's see if we can find some goblins to warm up on."
"Oh? Would you say that there'd be a heated exchange then?" Mar comments as he walks. "Or that any who attacked would find us an electrifying experiance?"

"Oh, okay. That makes sense. I'll just wait for Mar to wake up a little more before we go there then."
