They were only out of the city for about twenty minutes when Garrett stretched his arms out, his shoulders making a loud popping noise as he did so. He wasn't used to these levels of leg exercise, working on a ship used a different set of muscles.
Garrett- Gah! Any of you good with tracks? I get a feeling this trail is going to get less obvious as we hit rocky ground.
**Eldridge smiles, obviously impressed... and a little bit relieved.**
Eldridge - "They're really pulling out the stops on this one."

Be aware of singing as if you were half dead,
or half asleep:
but lift your voice with strength.
Be no more afraid of your voice now,
nor more ashamed of its being heard,
than when you sang the songs of Satan.
As they get on the buckboard, the guard uses stirs the horse. Making them move at a rather quick pace. This horse has quite a bit of life to it. Still, it'll take a while for them to reach the foothills.
Silas hoisted himself into the cart. He studies the driver's face, hoping to recognize him from before. It was a little weird that the captain hadn't mentioned anything, but maybe the driver just became free.
**Eldridge sat lazily against the sideboard, one booted leg stretched out almost to where Silas placed himself.**
Eldridge - "Where do the Garr live, anyway? The stories my mother told me made it seem like they grew out of the rocks."

Silas - "I work with a few, or did. Back when I was with the show, before we got split up. They came and went, doing security, cleanup, that sort of thing. Not big talkers, for the most part. Never said a whole lot about who they were or where they were from. Mostly wanderers, though. Exiles, lost kids, that sort of thing. Down-and-out sorts. Some folks were a little leery of them, I guess, and I won't say that they never caused any trouble, but you can't say that of any sort of folks. Good at keeping townies with funny ideas in line, for sure.
Telcrova sits silently, just listening. She's not planning on adding anything to the conversation - it's irrelevant to what they have to do. Regardless of their history or their background, the garr are enemies.
Eldridge - "If anything, they may be waiting for us."

As the foothills get closer, they might be able to see what looks like a caravan far off in the distance. More importantly, there's smoke on the horizon.
**Eldridge, peering at the distant object with hand over his brow, tensed at the sight of smoke.**
Eldridge - "I'm not sure whether we should avoid that or make for it."

Silas squints for a while before he can make out what the albino fellow was calling attention to. His heart jumped a little when he saw that it was a caravan, but the odds of it containing his company were pretty low, especially all the way out here. There are lots of caravans, after all.
Silas - "It might be nothing at all, and it's probably not particularly safe, but we're here to look for things, and it's probably more of a thing than anything else we've seen so far. I wouldn't want to go back to the captain with nothing. It probably doesn't hurt to at least get a little closer?"
The guard looks over his shoulder at them before nodding. Whipping up the horses again to move a little faster towards it.
As they get closer, the smoke becomes a much bigger plume. There is, or was, a lot of fire ahead. And when they get closer they can see that it was a village. And now it is not.
**Eldridge shifts into his best crouching position, draws his blade and surveys the area warily.**
Eldridge - "Whoever did this might still be there... is this Garr or one of ours?"

He looks to the others.
Silas - "I'm Silas, by the way. Silas Copperglass. Are you three locals?"
Garrett direct the tail end of his comment to Telcrova as his inflection altered from guessing to questioning.
"Hop on. Going to get you there faster this way. The Commander wants this done quick."
