Be sure to read everything thoroughly. Also, this will be much more pleasant for you if you have images on.
Well, let's have a look at you lot.

A fine looking bunch of adventurers if I may say, though not a single warrior among you. Hopefully your little "magicks" can keep you alive in Atruna, where you have all just arrived. Man, what a coincidence that all nine of you chose to embark on your journey on the same day. Or perhaps it is fate. You arrive in Atruna at its central Northern point:
Broadgate Meadow

The entryway to the world of Atruna, Broadgate Meadow is a peaceful area.

Ah yes, Broadgate Meadow, gateway to the world. You find yourselves standing here with not much to see except each other and two strangers, who seem likely to be of wildly disparate levels of helpfulness:

And that, my friends, is the state of things. The game is afoot. You may travel, talk, trade, party up, explore the area, or whatever else you may choose.
Hey guys, so, for this game to really work well as a multiplayer thing, which I want it to because that means I can give you more interesting, complicated challenges, you probably want to find a way to communicate. Possibly form a chat channel or just do it by PMs if you like. Don't worry if it means that the first rounds are slow while you wait to hear from each other and get organized. That gives me time to plan ahead.
Just remember I don't want multiple posts-per-player between my updates.
Also, feel free to PM me with questions.
I will try to balance the fact that I want to give most of you time to take turns each round with the fact that these first one or two turns won't include too much excitement as you get situated.
I would like to explore south. Confident in my wits, I wish to scout my surroundings.
Afoot indeed - once more into the breach!

Like I said, I can only go by my own experience, which is now 18 years. Kind of disheartening when you think you know something and you find out that you're a notch below a low grade moron.
Knowing the untrustworthiness of Goblins and suspicious of the shrouded figure, I decide to leave the group and head east. Before I leave I ask the group... "Who else is hungry? Let's get something to eat."
Edit:

Sorry, it's just about lunch time for me. Also, Hooray! Adventuring here we come.

Cube. The best way to play Magic. PERIOD. Come over and check it out. Also, check out my Peasant Split Card Cube.
The World of Pokemon RPG has been rebooted. Come over and check it out.
Varbus stretches to force himself awake, having stayed up late the previous night making last-minute preparations and anxiously meditating. He calls out to the scholarly-looking man walking east, "I suppose I'll join you later. I'm starving but I must have words before I eat." Then, liking the appearance of the wizard who is speaking to the shrouded person, he joins them and greets them both.
Naltraz, cloaked to keep his, admittedly unusual appearance hidden, decides to stay away from the group gathering and approach the goblin instead, curious about him mostly, "... greetings..." he says quietly.
Trevin Reistaff looks at this group of adventurers. Many of them look to be mystics or thieves, two types which Trevin has always found trouble sharing interests with. The only salt of the earth seemed to be talking to the shrouded man, which gave Trevin an ominous feeling.
On the other hand, the little Goblin is practically begging for the attention of the visitors. Feeling some pity on him, Trevin gathers his gear and heads over to talk to the little guy...
OOC:
No one picked a green Shaman? What are we going to do without a Druid? Oh noes!
It's time for your first update with multiple spoilers. I VERY STRONGLY recommend that you read all the spoilers, even those that don't include you, as you may want to join in a quest or advise on an event that someone else has discovered. The last spoiler in every update from now on will be the full set of updated player cards.
EDIT: An error was discovered. Apologies. Pol River Bank allows travel in all directions.
SECOND EDIT: Rules for mana, merchants, equipment, trading, questing and combat have been added in the rules thread.
You approach the shrouded figure in the distance, and as you open your mouth to try to speak to him, he zooms away like a wraith that has to go to the bathroom. That was rude, you think to yourself. And you are right. But it looks like your efforts might not have been totally in vain:
Slipped Through the Shroud
Event — Get Involved? (S)
As Socratos left in a hurry, not wanting to be seen with such novices as yourselves, a scroll (CMC 1 colorless artifact) appears to have fallen from his pocket. Socratos clearly won’t have you approaching him for some time, even should you manage to find him, so if you want to return it to him, you must find magical means. Who knows? He might be grateful. On the other hand, such a scroll might be something you would want to keep for yourself.
You may attempt any kind of interaction you like, or none at all.
Note: You may agree on an action that you both support, or, if you do competing actions, the game will decide how it plays out.
You approach Grubins and attempt a greeting, which is met with:
"Oh greetings, fair master. Welcome to Atruna, fair master. Can I be of assistance to you? I know of many things and am a good guide, my auntie says, a good guide indeed. Please, fair master, what is it you seek? Work? Adventure? Mystery? I can tell you many things."

Once again, I encourage you to be creative and thorough with your action choices. If you have questions, feel free to PM me. Creature sighting and events, which are now both in play, create a wide variety of new choices. There are more kinds of cards out there waiting to be discovered as well.
ONE MORE THING: Check the signups/rules thread for a spoiler that explains the rules of traveling on the map.
ALSO, ONE MORE THING: I can only do so much, but if you guys or some among you want to collaborate on a lexicon of sorts, including a map, cast of characters, list of items, that would be pretty awesome and I'd be crazy-flattered. I don't really have the expertise for that, but if that project takes off, do let me know.
He lowers his hood, revealing his humanoid, if translucent blue like head, a slight glow where his eyes would be located to indicate them better, "... work." he responds quietly to the goblin, looking around slowly in case any others approach.
Alright, changing since I think I will just follow my friend, this goes after Thelas' post
He, instead of listening to the goblin, turns, hearing the blue wizard head off, following him.
Actions - East to Pol River Bank, then North
May change before the next round starts, talking to another friend in the game
"I'm heading off to explore. Anyone who wants to may follow. Just don't get in my way."
Actions: E; N.
(Required to name the discovered areas passed through to make a double move, so:
> east
Pol River Bank
> north
???)
Trevin laughs at the eagerness of the goblin. "Why choose just one? I rarely adventure without getting paid, so there's the work! And any good adventure always includes a little mystery! While we're at it, I wouldn't mind directions to a tavern with some good food and better-than-average looking women! So speak away little Goblin, and tell me what you think I need to hear!"
As he says this, he looks over at the formerly hooded person, who revealed a quite blue head. Trevin's eyebrows raise slightly, and he shifts ever so subtly away from the blue man.
A few more gold to my name, I cut a beeline for Caroline. The smell of colorless mana hits me like - well, it smells rather like water, that odorless sort of smell that sticks with you in a clean sort of way, and holds onto you with a shrug. Anyway, I flash a smile and ask for her to bestow upon me one of her magicks. She tells me the price, presumably, and I oblige, with a grin and a thank you, and fill a satchel with 24 gold. A win-win proposition - if she doesn't catch me, I know I can return and scam her a little more. If she does, I simply apologize and pay her the remaining gold. With all things, it helps to file down the edges and even the odds my way.
Now, I wish to approach the boy and ask him what sort of town this is, what sort of people are here, and what sort of secrets he knows. I wish to barter with the boy, flipping a gold coin, acting absentminded but careful not to let the money slip, and careful too to watch his expression, and to gain an ally rather than simply buy information off a peasant.
Let's say David is 13 or so and I walk over to him and start a conversation by saying, "Boy, tell me, what sort of town is this? What sorts of goings-on could one expect in such a village?"
If the information he gives me is particularly juicy, I'll toss him the coin and be on my way, perhaps nodding in such a way as to convey my gratitude and start a secret friendship. Otherwise, I'll hold on to the coin and say something like, "Once I verify your information, I'll see to it that you receive your just reward."
Socratos beat me here, but i'm not sure my character saw him at the beginning. My character saw him now, and if he sees Socratos again, standing innocently or behaving suspiciously, he may approach him, but for now Socratos does not strike Thayer Ronamson as a mark, and so he is for the time avoided.
Had semenulative upkeep before it was fashionable. Look what you forced me to do, Wizards! IT DIDN'T HAVE TO GO DOWN LIKE THIS!

Varbus clears his throat. "Varbus Boonspear. It is a pleasure."
He glances at the scroll. "I do believe this deserves to be read whether or not we return it. If it happens to be private, then we ought to seek that man out and give it back. But there's no harm in taking a look..."
Here's the Map thus far...
Edit: Fixed the map. (East<->West (I was facing South when I made the map so I thought "Which Direction is East?" "Left." I told myself so I put East on the Left-hand side of the map orignally. It's where it's suppose to be now), size (Shrunk a little bit), Impassable Areas (Now blank, they were originally addtional areas), etc...)

It's probably too big but I thought I give us some room to grow.
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE, familiarize yourself with the new rules sections spoilered in the "How the Game Works" section of the signup thread's first post. Also, if you haven't yet, go back and check out the previous updates to see what has happened.... .... Good. You may proceed. And this time more than before, you'll want to view all spoilers. Lots of stuff just happened.

You wander to the east , step daintily over the napping man, and follow the north-turning path into the northernmost tip of Atruna, Cayman Lookout, which gives you a beautiful view of those other kingdoms we don't really care about. Donrok picks up the scroll quickly, securing his role as keeper-of-the-scroll-until-you-figure-out-what-to-do-with-it. Luckily, his Firehands don't burn it up. On Varbus's suggestion, you unfurl it and read it's contents:
"Jarred Frog
Web Strands
Eye of Saproling"
...Hunh...
Grubins is now the flustered one. "So many questions you asks," he replies. "Work first, work first. I heard an adventurer talks about food and now I am the hungriest little goblin in Atruna. Also, Socrates, does the Pol River Cave have water flowing through it or is it just beside the River? If it has water flowing, I'd like to take the quest, I have an idea. If not then I'll head east.
I've decide to head east away from the dark, dank Cave.
Lythra strolls gleefully through the little town, humming tunelessly at a loud volume level, taking in what little there is to see. He spots the wizardly woman at the local shop, and pirouettes merrily over to her to ogle her wares. His dancing eyes fall on the two mysterious amulets shimmering on the shelves.
"Why, what could these things do? They gleam with the righteous power of a crimson sun! Hahaha!" he exclaimed, his eyes becoming as round as the amulets he looks upon. "NO! Don't tell me! I must have one, no matter the cost!" He upends the contents of his purse onto the table and snatches one of the amulets from the wizard, cackling madly and examining his prize.
As Lythra walks back into town, he spots Thayer speaking with the father and son couple in the town, discussing some sort of great battle. Deciding that he'd rather not get into any fights, he heads further South; still not quite hot enough for him yet.
After defecting from the guerrilla army - they paid you poorly - Tombbrood is left stranded in the world. He initially feels regret, as the army was like a family to you. You can't even steal energy from his "patients" anymore.
He escape the battlezone and walk on a few miles. He sees a fine town - Broadgate Meadow. "Time for me to escape the past," he mutters to yourself, and walks south to explore the town and hopefully get some tools for wandering solo.
Will my character get penalized for not working for multiplayer? Black mages don't socialize often.
5/3/12 Update 2
Tombbrood wanders onto the town of Filigar, and he find it to be a deeply intriguing town. "Now here's somewhere that I can make my mark," he says to himself quietly. He walks a few steps, then feels a sense of power being taken away from him. "Ugh," he thinks in his mind. "I have to gain some power quickly, or else.."
Tombbrood approaches himself to a village official named Patrick Keen. Through observation he feels as if he has cheated his way to power, but he doesn't know how. "I'm here to... see if this town needs any services that I can provide." He almost chokes when speaking that sentence. However, he will do anything for power, and providing services seems to be the only way to do it around this town.
5/4/12 Update 3
Tombbrood accepts the quest. "I've fended off ambush armies during my time in the war," he says to Patrick. "It shouldn't be much different."
Tombbrood walks to the outskirts of the town, decides that there is nothing else to be done for now, then leaves.
...
Tombbrood wanders onto the Pol River Bank. He spots a deer. He toys around with the idea of killing it and taking it's energy. "Not right now... The bandits might ambush me, and then I would be in deep trouble," he thinks to himself. He decides to go to the cave.
Once he's there, Tombbrood looks around, just to check. It's just dark, and he can't make out anything. He wants to spend some mana on a vision spell, but decides to conserve it. "The ambushers always made you comfortable just before they attacked."
5/5/12 Update 5
Tombbrood goes and fights the thieves. He thinks about it for a bit, then decides to cast an old spell that he learned while meeting emissaries of the Otherworld:
Flesh SpawnB
Instant (C)
Put a -1/-1 counter on target creature, then put a 0/1 colorless Eldrazi Spawn creature token onto the battlefield. It has "Sacrifice this creature: Add 1 to your mana pool."
He casts Flesh Spawn on one of the thieves, and his upper region of his body begins to change color, then bursts as a little Spawn creature jumps out, ready to serve him. The thief is knocked out at this point, with blood strewn everywhere.
Suddenly, the second bandit charges and attacks, apparently unfazed by the death of his twin. Tombbrood steps back, then the Spawn jumps out and ravages him. The bandits tries to swing the dagger left and right, then he just gives up and grabs the Spawn. The Spawn vanishes, providing more mana to be used.
5/5/12 Update 6
Tombbrood easily takes care of the first bandit. The second one is going to go down harder. Tombbrood looks at the other adventurers in the room. One is yelling. "I'll see what they are doing later." He deliberates for a bit, then looks at the dead body. An idea starts to form. "Ah, the most basic spell in the Necromancer's Handbook." Tombbrood thinks to himself. "How could I forget it?" Tombbrood holds his hands up in ritual summon, then does this:
Weaken with Souls1B
Instant (C)
As an additional cost to cast Weaken with Souls, exile a creature card in a graveyard.
Target creature gets -X/-X until end of turn where X is the exiled card's power.
Tombbrood does this, and sees the fallen bandit's soul arise and float to the other bandit.
I'll use the temporary mana.
5/6/12 Update 7
After Tombbrood kills the bandit, he takes the dagger and brandishes it. He then looks at the other people in the cave. He can only see silhouettes of them - the cave is too dark to make out anything. Tombbrood sees a threatening bug ready to pounce on him - he quickly uses a standard annoyance spell:
Torso PainsB
Sorcery (C)
Put a -1/-1 counter on target creature. Tap that creature.
Trevin Reistaff responds to the goblin with slight displeasure... "Bugs eh? Well, I've had more glorious jobs, but beggars can't be choosers, right?" Trevin pulls out his pockets to show a lack of coinage in them. "So, if you're willing to pay, I'm willing to hunt. Where are the best grubs? I'm assuming you want some big, fat, giant sized ones right? I don't really care to dig in the dirt for you, no offense."
I'm using the cards for what it's worth. I'm guessing that insects don't count as animals, right?
"Ugh, birds already? Well, let's see if we can stall them. We can always run away if things go south. Run south, too."
MisguideU
Instant (C)
Return target creature and all other nontoken permanents with the same name as that creature to their owners' hands. When one is forced away, the others believe it to have left of its own volition, and follow it.
Naztel nods in response, ready to act in case Thelas' spell fails, readying his own spell:
Cloud VisionU
Instant (C)
Up to three target attacking creatures each get -1/-0 until end of turn. "Can't hit you if they can't see you... Well that's the plan at least." - Sumonerothr, Amateur Thief
No big announcements to put in the update this time.
Reminders for Every Update: I'm not going to repost cards with literally no changes on them, such as quests or characters. That doesn't mean the quests aren't active and the characters aren't still there. Also, I suggest you read every spoiler to see what is happening in the world.
Text versions of area cards at the bottom. If you need other text versions, let me know.
Let's get to it:
You wander east from the Pol River Cave and find yourself on Mercenary Road:
Before you've taken too many paces down the road, you see something unusual in front of you:
Heading east from Broadgate Meadow, you arrive at the Pol River Bank. You feel a sense of calm, and of water. U added to mana reserves.
Waylan looks like he's still napping. Firehands appears to have fallen behind.
The player inhabitants of Broadgate Meadow have changed:
Grubins has a more helpful answer than you were expecting. "Those oneses over there should be fine!" He points over toward the treeline, and sure enough:
Note: You are the attacker here, should you choose to. Check rules if you need to.
The player inhabitants of Filigar have changed:
Caroline Harth's stock has changed:
Thelas casts a Misguide spell, and the flock of birds gets thoroughly confused, suddenly turning and flying back towards the clouds from which they came. Good thing birds are relatively easy to trick, or that might not have worked.
You also notice many docile birds in the area appear confused now, too. Oops.
You didn't pick up any loot from the birds, but casting spells is a valuable experience in itself. Thelas +5 Exp.
Naltraz had a spell all ready, but it ended up being unnecessary. Fortunately, that means no mana was spent.
The birds are gone, and you stand at the edge of Atruna with your thoughts, and each other.
You head south from the town of Filigar and find yourself walking down Pilgrim's Road:
There are a few nondescript passersby, but two figures seem to be lingering:

A fine looking bunch of adventurers if I may say, though not a single warrior among you. Hopefully your little "magicks" can keep you alive in Atruna, where you have all just arrived. Man, what a coincidence that all nine of you chose to embark on your journey on the same day. Or perhaps it is fate. You arrive in Atruna at its central Northern point:

He glances at the scroll. "I do believe this deserves to be read whether or not we return it. If it happens to be private, then we ought to seek that man out and give it back. But there's no harm in taking a look..."

Please to fetch some grub for me? I pay!" You ask what kind of grub he wants, to which he replies, "Yes, grub! Well, dead grub!"

You attempt your little ruse on Caroline and leave feeling satisfied in yourself. But as you leave, you notice that one gold is missing from your collection. Looks like you're not the only one who can use sleight of hand.
As you approach young David, he pays no attention to your coin, but instead admires you. When you ask him what kind of town this is, he replies, "A boring one, I'll tell you that. Sure, adventurers like you pass through sometimes, but I've never even gotten to see a real battle. If I could see that, I'd give anything, truly!"
Patrick walks over. "Sorry. My son bothering you? Probably cause of you being an adventurer and all. He thinks he's going to be one too, but I keep telling him it's too dangerous."

Edit: New Map...
Also, Socrates, does the Pol River Cave have water flowing through it or is it just beside the River? If it has water flowing, I'd like to take the quest, I have an idea. If not then I'll head east.I've decide to head east away from the dark, dank Cave.

5/3/12 Update 1
Flesh Spawn B
Weaken with Souls 1B
Torso Pains B
Sorcery (C)
Put a -1/-1 counter on target creature. Tap that creature.
The bug stops in mid-air and squirms.
I'm using the cards for what it's worth. I'm guessing that insects don't count as animals, right?
Club Flamingo Wins: 1!
Misguide U
Instant (C)
Return target creature and all other nontoken permanents with the same name as that creature to their owners' hands.
When one is forced away, the others believe it to have left of its own volition, and follow it.
Please wait for Arcel, of course.
Instant (C)
Up to three target attacking creatures each get -1/-0 until end of turn.

Reminders for Every Update: I'm not going to repost cards with literally no changes on them, such as quests or characters. That doesn't mean the quests aren't active and the characters aren't still there. Also, I suggest you read every spoiler to see what is happening in the world.
