Wizards of the Coast is kicking off an exciting contest today that gives Magic: The Gathering fans the chance to win a trip for two to the PAX event of their choice in 2014. Starting today and concluding at PAX Prime in August, the contest asks fans to “audition to become a Planeswalker” by submitting a photo of themselves characterizing a Planeswalker of their choice.
The grand prize winner will be selected by a team of judges at Wizards and will win a trip for two to the PAX event of their choice in 2014, including travel, hotel and event tickets. In addition, the grand prize winner will be awarded a pizza party for their favorite local Wizards Play Network (WPN) retail store.
A second place winner will be selected by popular vote. A pool of the top 10 entries will be chosen in early September and posted online for fans to vote on their favorite. The entry with the most votes will win a laptop and a copy of the recently released Magic 2014 – Duels of the Planeswalkers video game.
Visit www.igniteyoursparkcontest.com for contest details and be sure to check out actress, gamer and new media geek, Felicia Day’s, video as Planeswalker Chandra Nalaar!
Look guys! A guy is taking his shirt off and dancing in front of another guy! LOL SO FUNNY AMIRITE
I don't get why WOTC is wasting resources on garbage like this
Called PR. I thought it was ok anyways. I could explain why doing things like this generates more resources than they consume but i'll leave that to google

Getting back into MTGO maybe, depending on the cost
And here's thread for proof that Magic players can tend to take themselves wayyyy too seriously.
It's not necessarily that, I actually love comedy, especially satire, and would love to see someone make something funny out of Magic.
But...what's the joke here? It's supposed to be funny, but....there is no joke. A guy takes his shirt off to try and dance at an awkward moment? Chandra accidentally burns paper? I got a chuckle out of the split second shot of the lady licking booster packs to seal them, but otherwise....cringe hard
It's just...not funny IMO...and it feels forced, especially with Felicia Day in there, which makes it even worse. Like, "well I like MTG and this video is supposed to be MTG comedy so I guess I need to laugh at it"
Wow, that's SO nerdy and childish. I'm not wondering anymore that there are almost weird people around TCG-tables. Sad, so sad.
It's not that bad. I mean, the Star Wars kid didn't make Star Wars fans weird.
But yeah, the contest is more bizarre than anything. Plus, I can't see the marketing appeal.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
This just seems like a contest for cosplayers. Calling it right now, some young hot 20-something will dress in a sexy planeswalker outfit and win by popular vote.
Best part of the video is the lady, licking the booster pack to seal it. lol.
please tell me this isn't magic's attempt to attract a more younger crowd.
they're more interested in yu-gi-oh and pokemon, just leave it to the mature gamers. i don't need to pop into my next legacy tourney and sit across from a 11 yr old
Realistically he should only be unblockable without equipment
Guard 1: There goes a sword floating down the street!
Guard 2: Well, he's unblockable, so ignore it.
Eat your greens kids, omnath does, and it makes him strong....
please tell me this isn't magic's attempt to attract a more younger crowd.

Is Pokemon still a thing? I mean, I know they're making a sixth game soon, but I'm surprised it's still a thing.
Also, sitting across from an 11-year-old isn't that bad. Now that we have points instead of Elo scores, it's not like losing to a beginner is so bad. Now, losing to that 11-year-old after you complained about playing an 11-year-old is bad.
Also, Wizards wants to hit as many markets as possible. Remember how when vampires became a weenie tribe, everyone complained they were trying to get Twilight fans?

What's the target market here? As in, who does this video appeal to?
What group of individuals, who are not currently into MTG, would actually sit through this, enjoy it, and become curious enough because of it to go out and try to play MTG? That's the definition of marketing, really. To reach out to people who know little, or nothing, about your product and generate interest in it.
I'm not asking this in a rhetorical sense, I am asking it in a genuine one.
It seems to me, with success of films like The Hobbit, TV like Game of Thrones, and slacker/gamer culture shows like The Big Bang Theory, Workaholics, etc. that either an approach of doing serious lore-based stuff, or making fun of comic shop stereotypes, would be a successful approach.
Or we could get some horrible actor to do a non-funny version of 1998's Jackass "Party Boy" skit and some girl to "like, be all quirky and weird like what Zoey Deschanel used to do then people got sick of seeing her"
It's not necessarily that, I actually love comedy, especially satire, and would love to see someone make something funny out of Magic.

I do agree that it's the subtle parts that were the most clever.
My favorite parts were the pack sealing and Jace's photo shoot. "Jace, you're mind sculpting... Sculpt my mind!", with the actor playing Jace being in the card's pose.
I don't know if it felt too forced, save for the first half of the video- trying to have those being interviewed be so "wacky"... that may have been laid on a little thick and just trying way too hard.
I think Chandra was burning them on purpose and more of an "Oops" moment so they cant win the contest.
Well, they're were auditioning to be her assistant, not part of the contest, so I'm pretty sure that's not it.
The fact that she went through 400 without liking any of them really implies it was an 'oops' that keeps happening. She hasn't liked any of them because she keeps accidentally burning all of them.
Is Pokemon still a thing? I mean, I know they're making a sixth game soon, but I'm surprised it's still a thing.

Yeah Pokemon is still a thing, my LGS has pokemon tournaments every week, not to mention an older friend of mine I got into Magic is now hooked on Pokemon too

Pokemon? Pokemon!? With the Poke, and the mon, and the thing with the guy comes out of the thing, and...

The Big Bang Theory has had multiple episodes with real D&D and real MMORPG's in it, however when they play a TCG instead of using Magic they went and invented their own game. Good for them for actually selling those cards but I really think we miss out on a funny MTG episode as well as all the marketing for Magic.

drunken magic shenanigans
I might seriously attempt Jace, but the one in the video was pretty damn cool.
Come help me make my Pauper cube awsome!
