So why is everyone assuming this is going to end up in court of some kind? Almost every other post in this thread is about how TSG is innocent until proven guilty, like there's going to be criminal prosecution or a civil suit.
I mean, honestly, employers don't need to establish guilt or innocence beyond a reasonable doubt in order to fire employees...
They wouldn't take him to court in order to uphold firing him, they'd take him to court for grand theft. The firing part has already happened. They obviously already got the police involved since he was questioned by them. I doubt they'd inform the magic community about what happens next (if anything happens), although it really shouldn't be any of our buisiness.
Look people , he wasn't addicited to drugs (he's too chunky) he was addicted to gambling , On his twitter page he describes himself as a scoundrel and a gambler. One can assume that like most magic players he also played a bit of poker . Probably too much poker .
He got himself in a bit of trouble and need some fast money . He probably had every intention of paying it back when he got his next big win , but he got caught.
Professional magic players are no different then proffesional gamblers there main source of income is from a game where chance is a major elemnet , TSG wasn't a great magic player by his own admission and probably also wasn't a great poker player.
What if somebody somehow stolen cards from CFB and then just sold them to TSG cheaply.
Now he is not contacting CFB because he feels betrayed that they contacted police first, not spoken with him.
You're very first post, and you make it this one?
First off, CFB was stolen from, they had every right to call the police.
Secondly, why, if TSG is clean as you propose, would someone steal a bunch from CFB and then sell to him? Someone who WORKS for CFB. Why wouldn't they just go sell them to someone else?
Third, if you're being sold 50 of each card, how do you not know this is shady?
Finally, if you buy these cards and somehow are stupid enough to think they're clean, then the same amount turns up missing at your work, instead of turning them over, you sell them on eBay?

I doubt more than 5% of the pro tour makes their main source of income from playing magic. TSG has one pro tour appearance. He did magic TV and managed the inventory for channelfireball, he wasn't currently playing.
I imagine what it will in-part come down to, is TSG being able to explain where he got all the cards that he was selling on ebay from in the first place. If part of what he was listing closely matched what was stolen, but that he didnt actually do it, then he would simply need to be able to show evidence of where he got the cards to be able to prove that he is in fact innocent. That aside, Channel Fireball would of course need to show more than just circumstancial evidence to prove that it was him who did it, and I certainly wouldnt automatically take his lack of speaking on the subject, given the accusation as an admittance of guilt in actually taking the cards, being as how lawyers and what not tend to tell you how to handle such things.
We will just have to wait and see what comes of all this. Obviously his reputation is a bit destroyed at the moment, and if it is proven that he did it, I dont suspect we'll see him in anything magic related ever again, as I cant think of anyone that would want to actually hire someone thats been proven to be a thief.
Of his auctions that closed within the last 15 days (304 auctions, which is no small feat in a 15 day span), of the ~275 that had bids, the selling price was a shade under $7000 (yes I actually added them all). Not saying he stole all that he sold, but if he did, that's a massive haul.
Here's the link to all 266 auctions he had in the past few months. Now, nobody is saying that he stole all of these cards, but he was selling a ton of money cards.
CFB didn't win all the auctions. In fact, it's obvious that there are a lot of details missing from the CFB statement. They most likely suspected him, and then took the time to investigate to prove that he stole the cards.

Is there anyone in professional magic that isn't a cheat/thief/scumbag?
Someone generally won't trash their career/friendships over cards for no reason.
Seems to be so far, the most reasonable.

Nah, I don't think so, just conspiracy theorists and other people trying to figure out why he did what he did.
