I heard from a friend ( whose job is reviewing games movies and shows) that there is a mtg cartoon show coming out in japan i did some research and found nothing i dont know if this belongs here if not plz move but He said his boss told him he would be reviewing a preview of the show in AUG and that the plot was about 5 kids who fell through a portal in a magic card and they are told they have to defeat nicol bolas and the planes walkers will send them back home but the kid in grixis sides withn nicol bolas. To me this sounds like an awful atempt at getting kids into magic.

Doesn't seem very likely. However, if it's only in Japan, it wouldn't surprise me, as almost every franchise can have a home in animation there. There was even a MTG-themed bar in Japan, so that's a sign that some companies would be interested in investing for it.
I do recall about a thread that said WotC made a deal with Hasbro, and it strongly suggested a MTG animated show, but I haven't heard any further news about it. Also, seeing how WotC keeps saying that the game is aimed at people aged 13 and up, I guess these "kids" would be teenagers at least.
Is heavy cursing allowed on here?
While I assume it's not, oh crapcrapcrapcrap.
This is what semi-ruined yugioh. It won't be the death of MTG, but it won't really be...er...good.
Cards with the post 8th Edition, color shifted and future shifted templates as well as the timeshifted and Coldsnap reprint ones tastes a little sweeter. Any gold cards with the old faces are a little saltier. European foreign (except Russian) cards with the mentioned templates above are not as sweet as their English counterparts and has a wierd after taste. All taste tests were done from fresh packs and all cards tasted are not foil cards. I have yet to taste Asian and Russian cards.

Sounds like a plausible early pitch from producers who don't understand the demographic. I expect, with further research from the higher-ups, for them to stop the idea. If it advances, we'll just have to protest a bit more loudly.

You know you have played M:TG too much when you find yourself calling shotgun "in response" to your friends calling shotgun.

Wait wasn't yu-gi-oh originally a magna about card games(reportedly inspired by mtg) that turned into a tv show about card games and taking over the world which turned into a broken and poorly designed cash grabbing card game?
On topic I really hope it happens if for nothing else than to give me and my buddies some cracky new anime to watch while out of our trees.
Asking out a girl is like trying to cast a first turn Necropotence. Sometimes the other player will have the Force of Will to say no. You shouldn't let that stop you from trying it.
Yugioh has always been its own franchise (manga, anime). Duel Masters was originally about Magic. I believe the main character even played a Sliver deck, which apparently accounts for some of their popularity in Japan.
I think this is a fantastic idea. When I was at PT Kyoto, I got to participate in a mixer with local organizers. When we asked them why Magic wasn't as popular as other card games, the consistent answer was "there is no anime." For a card game in Japan, having an anime is like having Michael Jordan endorse your sports-related product.

I'm all for popularity in Japan, but it will just get MTG players more made fun of in the US, and decrease popularity in the US.

Well to be fair if it was only broadcast in Japan (where U.S non players will never see it) the only people online who'd bother to look for it would be curious players I'd think. I fail to see how it would have the sort of effect you describe... that is, assuming it meets the expectations I mentioned.

The idea that putting something on TV will decrease its popularity is downright ridiculous.
He didnt say anything about popularity, popularity can go up and the level of fun people are made can go up with it... basically if its a show aimed at young children it will garner negative attention towards adult players...
At the casual Tuesday night Magic I go to at Game Daze at my mall, we have enough people coming in that make fun of us for playing Magic (especially during the Harry Potter premiere, which is sort of ironic). Having a TV show would just make it worse.

sounds like yall have bigger problems than mtg... i mean seriously who lets people come into a place of business for the sole purpose of picking on his clientele... seems bad.
LOL... cant believe i missed that, your right... I am still correct about the being made fun of part(if thats a concern). Also didnt realize i was arguing with the great(and vacationing?) Judge Riki. My apologies
You guys take the internet too seriously
If your having issues of people making fun of you playing a game then you yourselves have issues deeper down. Words are words. Fact is most people making fun of you more then likely are people that need to insult to make themselves feel better.

Well ok, 'enough' people is maybe one or two people a night. Most of the time they don't say anything but they do give us that 'stare' that basically says 'wtf u doing nerds'.

who cares then? I mean seriously this isnt high school(at least for most of us) I wear my MTG shirt in public... oh noes what will the random people think. Just saying who cares they stepped into a comic shop in the first place so they have some reason for being there.

Wait, what? Magic is the number one game worldwide. Maybe not in japan, but that question doesn't work out elsewhere.
I don't believe this rumor at all. If they did any cartoon it would likely fit into 'here I rule' and that motif.

Quite understandable. I am part of the anime community and I have to say moswt of the time something is popular in japan because it has a show. like pokemon, yugioh, etc. as you can see a tv show whould be a nice way to improve issues with japan loving mtg.

While i agree, our US based WOTC commercials do a great job of making the game look ridiculous as it stands...

If it does happen, we can only hope it would be as good as the old D&D cartoon. I liked that show a lot when it was out.

Anyway.. If the show turns out to exist:
If it's well made, i'll welcome and love it.
If it sucks, I'll enjoy making fun of it.
Either way, it's win/win.
