Hey all!
two bits of news- and forgive me if im not doing this correctly( new to posting in forums)- but i wanted to let the european fans know that i will be in Spain for two appearances in april- info on that will be posted here: https://www.facebook.com/rebeccaguayillustration?ref=hl

i wanted to let folks know that i have a kickstarter running now for my first comprehensive art of book- it will feature some of my favorite images like Channel and Regenerate and Dwell on the past and Angelic renewal as well as path to exile and lace with moonglove and some more favorites of mine.I can only put a percentage of MTG contractually within the book- and the rest will be comics and book cover and recent gallery work- but all my best stuff from the last 22 years will be in it.
I know not all of this sites followers are fans of mine- but those who are might be interested in pre ordering the book as this is the only place online that it will be available!
yours with affection- Rebecca https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1360132117/evolution-the-art-of-rebecca-guay-1993-2014

Pre-Kickstarter Video: Hmm would be interesting to see this art book has to offer and what else Rebecca has been working on over the years.
Post-Kickstarter Video: The artwork is very good.
Warning: Lots of Nude Women and good music.

its true! there are lots of nekkid people in the recent gallery work! its the kind of stuff your not allowed to do in publishing but can in gallery- and i love it!
dont know again if im getting this right but just really THANKS for your nice posts- I hope thats you'll love the new work as much as I do- if youve liked some of my more boldly romantic MTG cards you'll love the new work!
and please do share with friends you know are fans of mine (or GIRLFRIENDS who are fans of mine;)- the book wont be available for purchase after the campaign easily and i dont want anyone who really likes what i do and wants a book to miss out. xx
Blah, I'm the type of person that has two copies of that Serra Angel comic, every foiled MTG Guay card known to man, a bunch of decks that are immune to Persecute Artist, and that Rook angel steel deck box set. How can I resist contributing? xP
Do you prefer to be called Rebecca or Ms. Guay? Either way, I am very fond of your artwork, as it has such a unique style to it; a look that is distinctly your own. The manner in which you blend colors and depict such great detail is a remarkable talent, in my mind. Therefore, the idea of a book composed of your artwork is very appealing, and if I can donate to your project, I shall.
You may have been asked this before, but I am wondering: do you still illustrate for WotC? I really like your work, but I have not seen any new images from you in some time, which I find to be unfortunate. I cannot speak for all players of this game, but I definitely would like to see new cards with your artwork, and know other players who share that opinion, as well.

This is pretty sweet. I still got a playset of priest of titania that Rebecca signed for me in person back in 2003, that I don't think I'll ever sell. If one of the backer options allowed me to get a print of the Osaka Angel rather than the Nagoya, I'd be all over it, since getting that print is all but impossible it seems.
You are one of my favorite magic artists and I wish I could be in Spain. One of the most disappointing things about Theros to me was the lack of your art. When I think of Greco-Roman fantasy art, I immediately thought of the whimsical style in your art pieces.
Heh, seeing all those familiar names in the backers list makes me smile. Especially one Jeremy Cranford !
Soon I will be in that list, count on it.

I've been a Guay fan since I got into the game 15+ years ago. The implied detail (rather than detail explicitly painted), the gorgeous girls/dryads/angels/nature, and the use of bright colours (especially lots of green) turned me into an instant fan even though I've never cared much for fine art before.
When you were dropped from Magic I lead a campaign to get you reinstated, primarily through this community (I like to imagine it had some kind of impact!) We exchanged some emails back then. Persecute Artist is an emotionally-charged bit of history, to me! And I'm very upset at not having seen any new art of yours on a Magic card in years now. Stream of Unconsciousness and Dawnglow Infusion appear to be some of the most "recent"...
Your gallery work since then appears very much like a lot of your Magic artwork, but with more nipples, excellent! The book looks amazing. I never buy myself anything nowadays, but it's the first thing I've wanted for myself in years. And of course, I want to donate to help your project be a success. When I looked into the process to do so, a couple issues come to mind:
- no PayPal / money order option (not everybody has a Visa/Mastercard)
- account signup and verification not only at Kickstarter but also at Amazon.com (where the "privacy" policy is shall we say... not ideal)
I'm working on getting around those issues, so hopefully you'll see my name as a Backer soon. Either way, I'm linking friends to the Kickstarter page, promoting it on social media, and I wish you nothing but the best Rebecca!
EDIT: Success. And I was happy to see that my pledge pushed the funding total over 70,000 - congrats!

Yeah, I remember those days when I was still a lurker. It was crazy times, and I'm sure that if it wasn't for someone like you, we wouldn't have eventually gotten a response from Jeremy Cranston himself. I actually wanted to find that thread again to relive those memories of torches and pitchforks, but I couldn't find it :p. And of course I agree that it's kind of sad that she hasn't made art since Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block (I've always seen her promo of Path to Exile a year later to be a great send off though as it's an awesome card with one of her best works IMO).
And hooray for 70k by the way =)
