I didn't see this anywhere on here and felt as a member of the New Jersey Magic community (both as a player and vendor) word needed to get out about this.

Due to Winter Storm Pax, StarCityGames.com has decided to cancel both days of this weekend’s New Jersey Open Series (February 15 - 16).
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but the safety of both players and our employees is our main priority, and we do not believe it is safe to travel in hazardous conditions this winter storm has created for so much of the east coast.
Please make plans to join us when the StarCityGames.com Open series returns to New Jersey on May 24th-25th, and be safe everyone.
Looks good that you posted that.
I live in Europe but I watch tournaments regularly and this is a bit disappointing. After reading the comments on that article it looks like im not the only one but definitely for a different reason.
There is no announcement on it on the main page. I bet a lot of people will show up there without knowing that the event got cancelled. People will voice there opinions on that one.
Looks like they took down the announcement link on their homepage or I just can't find it? Wonder if it had anything to do with all the negative facebook complaints/comments mostly about late notice, nonrefundable hotel charges, and blue skys in New Jersey?
I love StarCity and major kudos for everything they do/have done for MTG but wow seems like they majorly mishandled this.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.

It's listed under their "News" on the right side. Totally invisible to anyone not looking for it really.
A lot of people pointed this out in the Facebook comments and on Reddit, but the reason it was cancelled probably has a lot more to do with the way the storm hit Roanoke, VA than how it hit NJ. If the people who travel from there to run the event can't even get out of their homes, then the event won't happen. I live near Roanoke, and I know there were sections of Interstate 81 (near Star City Games and probably what they'd use to go north) that were completely blocked off even today due to abandoned cars and stuff.

Yeah, exactly this. It doesn't matter what the roads are in NJ when the SCG team aren't able to get up here in the first place.

What really sucks is that all those people who aren't interested in the events stores are throwing together to give them something to do are losing hotel deposits. They don't even have info listed on how to get your preregistration entry fee back. Also, it's a tiny link on the front page as opposed to a full notification. They need to prioritize this as opposed to advertising the next event.

Jace bounce was a -1. He could do it 3 times before he would die. Liliana can only do it once before having to do her +1. Overall very disappointed with her unless we get Madness.
Crap, you're right, she's not as good as one of the single most overpowered cards ever printed. Unplayable!
I honestly can't believe people are upset at SCG for canceling it. It is a safety hazard to not only the players but their own staff. People should get over it...

It's the preparation, communication, and professionalism that people have the problem with.
The storm was known days in advance to a company that is known for running tight ship tournaments. Most figured they would have planned or gotten there in advance of the storm and if not more notice would have been given. Neither happened and it sure seems like a black eye because of the late notice and blue-skys/clean-in New Jersey. At the very minimum, is a link on the front-page or sending out emails too much to ask?

They cancelled on Thursday when the tournament was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. If they cancelled even earlier and then the forecasts turned out to be wrong, that would have produced an even bigger *****storm. It also is not "blue skys" and "clean" in New Jersey. At least where I am, we've gotten another couple inches of snow today and the roads were bad. It took me 15 minutes to drive a mile to my friend's house and then another 15 minutes back when I realized parking there was a huge hassle.
I agree that a notice on the front page of their website and an email to their email list would both be good ideas and that they could have done a better job communicating, but I think word spread pretty quickly.

I wasn't even going to go to the event and I knew that it was being canceled the day it was announced. If you are planning to go to an event, and a major storm hits that area, might be best to check to see if it is still going on.
The storm happened in the middle of the week, they can't cancel it Monday/Tuesday, they have to wait to see if the storm is as bad as it is, and then cancel. It isn't even close to a black-eye. I don't even like SCG, and I think that people's reactions are so far overblown.
I was willing to travel a good amount of time (4-5hrs) to play this. Had an amazing Friday night for Vday and thought if the weather was fine I'd do Legacy on Sunday. But honestly this was the correct call. There was no point in risking others' safety for a SCG.

I mean, hell, we're all on a forum for something that most people would describe as a "children's card game"...do what makes you happy. You are never too old to enjoy yourself.
Only issue I have with the call is they knew from Sunday that there was a major snow storm Coming Thursday into friday dropping 10+ inches AND another on the Saturday into sunday dropping another few more inches. Sunday was the time to call the cancel. Not Thursday. All ya had to do is post on twitter, main site ON THE TOP, and facebook that Event is canceled due to very bad weather coming. NJ called a state of emergency on weds. Its not about that they canceled.. Its about how they handled it. You ARE the main event in the US. You need to be on top of everything before hand. You had previous storms in the past few weeks as a reference point and they weren't as bad as it this was suppose to be except I think for one (early Jan one).

Forecasts a week in advance often times turn out incorrect. If Star City cancelled the tournament on the previous Sunday and the storm ended up being much less severe, they would have faced a far, far worse outcry.

Given the past few weeks and a weekly snow storm that the ice have not melted from the forecasts have been pretty much dead on over here.
