I'm seconding this. (Well, really thirding or fourthing as it's been mentioned a few times.) It's definitely the feature that got me using magiccards.info in the first place, and has saved me a lot of money.
Also regarding the grey/white background color. Maybe you could have the user pick which one they want?
Selecting from which sets to search. I think a field with boxes to check would be a bit easier than the scroll down menu and using CTRL to select multiple fields. Thats also the only issue I had with the old search, this one is just better so far.
I totally agree. The problem with checkboxes: Too many editions. I cannot possibly put a checkbox for every edition listed there. I am not so sure what kind of approach to take here that doesn't involve too much *complicated*.

Prices will be back! Exactly the way the are now.
Dou you mean it's harder to distinguish between the different formats? They are still color-coded.
And one "correction", portuguese is from Portugal, not Brasil. Nowadays are more brazilian speakers, but portuguese is from Portugal.
Is it too dark for you?
I was under the impression that the cards released in Portuguese were originally for the Brazilian market, that's why I picked that flag. But obviously I was wrong, so I changed the flag back.

It's currently in testing mode, so there's no prices until I get everything settled.
I would prefer something that is just pleasant for nearly everyone. It would really help me if those who don't like the new gray tell me if it's too dark, or just the gray (too depressing?).
The current site seems to have some bugs, which are solved in beta.
e.g. if I type "search your library for an artifact card" into the rules text box, it shows up strange results. I expected a logical "AND" for all words.
The Beta is better than the old one in many ways. I like the "Scans Only" view, it's superb. I also like how you made hybrid mana costs valid for both mono-color and multi-color, that's really useful.
About the gray, I like the color the site is right now, it's just slightly darker than the old white.
Random stuff I noticed and thought about, but none of them is really important...
- Something I would like to see is a way to keep your score on the Art Game, maybe an accuracy percentage. Just to see how well you do.
- A blank line between "Card Rulings" and "Legality" might make it visually clearer.
- About the cards in the Restricted list, you could include right there a link to the place in Wizard's site in which that topic is discussed (Reprint Policy and the Restricted List, or sth like that).
- The same for "timeshifted versions", you could include a link to the original card right there. And maybe also the other way, Giant Growth additional text may say that it has a timeshifted version called Brute Force.
- Reaper King and the Alara Reborn hybrids still need to get their colors fixed, but you already mentioned this, and I figure it must be a nightmare to code.
- I miss the "Preferences" menu, but probably it's just a matter of time until you put it into the Beta.
You've done an awesome work here. Old Magiccards.info was great, and the Beta is better. Congratulations. I hope you have it ready for Worldwake!!

There is a ? you can click next to "Legality" that will take you to the banned/restricted lists. Because it's on every page, I didn't want it to be prominent. Good idea with the line, I will try that.
Linking the time-shifted cards sounds like a neat idea, I will definitely add that later.
Thank you so much for the detailed list! It really helps.
I never realized it was you who created MagicCards.info. Many, many kudos for making such a fantastic resource. Whenever I see the question, "what would make Gatherer better?" my answer is always: "magiccards.info." As such, I was surprised to see that you're working on improving something that is already the best of its kind.
I have two suggestions which haven't been mentioned, and may be too much to ask, but I figure I'll throw them out there.
1) Is there some sort of HTML code that can be used in the same way BBCode is used here? (eg. query) Also, perhaps something like deck tags? I use magiccards.info to link cards on my blog, but it's pretty cumbersome because I have to look up each card manually in order to get the link.
2) Is there a way to make the site iPhone/mobile-friendly? Sites such as WordPress automatically switch over to a mobile version when viewed from a mobile device. Another idea would be an iPhone app that searches the site and turns up results formatted for display on the iPhone (I would pay for something like this).
Thanks for all your hard work! Amazing site! You ROCK!

When I talked about the Restricted List, I meant the Reserved List, the one that includes the cards that won't be reprinted, my mistake. For example, Time Vault. Where it says "This card is on the reserve list", three improvements can be made. First I think it's the reserveD list, with a "d". Second, it could include a link right there to a search of all the cards in the Reserved List. And third, you could include another "?" in that line, redirecting to the Reprint Policy. The URL is: http://www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/article.aspx?x=magic/products/reprintpolicy
This could also apply for the "Timeshifted" versions of Planar Chaos, you could include in the same line a link to the original card (As I already mentioned) and a link to the search of all Planar Chaos Timeshifted cards.
By the way, while I was writing this, I went to check out the list "Is:", in Advanced Search, and both categories are missing. It would be cool if we could search them. You can add "is on the Reserved List" and "is a Timeshifted version", just like you did with "Is a future card". Both options would be under the Categories subtitle, in my opinion.
Another great feature could be including an Update Log in the Home Page, to see what gets improved and what goes unchecked.
When searching for cmc=1 and checking the "require multicolored" checkbox it can't find anything. So you won't get any of the hybrid 1cmc cards to show up.
Are you choosing any colors? If you don't, it won't find anything because "Require multicolor" means "The card I'm looking for is all the colors I selected" and not "It has more than one color"...

Would you be able to do a random card on a timer feature? Or all cards within a set on a timer. Timer meaning that after like 15-20 seconds it switches to a new card. I usually surf the site during work on another screen, and if the cards changed on their own it would be awesome. Seems silly but Maxim does it with their photo's

1) I've been planning for a long time to offer these things (Deck -> HTML, vB/WordPress plugins) but I'm just not really getting around doing it... maybe when this new version is out.
When searching for cmc=1 and checking the "require multicolored" checkbox it can't find anything. So you won't get any of the hybrid 1cmc cards to show up.
You need to uncheck "Exclude Unselected", because effectively you're asking for multicolored cards that don't have any color. Here is the result: c:m cmc=1
Planes can be found if you search for their full names (though it's a bit hacky and ugly at the moment. high priority to fix this and add other extras, but it will work for the autocard links here on MTGS...)
You can specify a permanent filter on the advanced search page
I think this is going to be it. I will give it a few more days to make sure no more major bugs appear, then I will be looking for translations for the interface, and then it's time to release! Maybe for New Year!
I want to say yet again how incredible your engine is. I salute you sir.
I've used it for years and never knew it was you who made it.
My feelings exactly. Thank you so very much for these great MTG sites!
The "View as Scans only" option is awesome. It's also nice that the Advanced Search no longer has the "regular" Search button, which caused confusion and failed searches. Also, is it just me, or the engine got faster?
I'd just like to say how much of a help your search engine has been. It is far superior to wizards own "Gatherer" which seems to constantly be missing card images. The advanced search is also better, heck, you really ought to sell your services to wizards. www.magiccards.info is my preferred search method
This would be asking for cards that can be cast with either only red mana, or only green mana or a combination of both, and that have either "token" or "sacrifice a creature" in their card text. "Fable of Wolf and Owl" can be cast with only green mana, so that's why it's listed (and so are the other split mana cards).
1) I've been planning for a long time to offer these things (Deck -> HTML, vB/WordPress plugins) but I'm just not really getting around doing it... maybe when this new version is out.
2) Yes, yes, it's planned!
Fantastic! I'm looking forward to using the new version, whatever the updates may be Thanks again Hannes!
Not a bug, just a database oddity - Mana Crypt is currently listed as both legal and restricted in Vintage, and both legal and banned in Legacy.
However, I do have one question and one small feature request... you currently have the is:funny option, which is very useful, but not:funny still includes the 5 Celebration Cards. Perhaps you could make an option is:serious (or something) that excludes those? Right now I suppose the same thing can be effected by something like (f:legacy or banned:legacy), or I suppose just (not:funny not e:uqc), but I feel this is a useful enough category to perhaps get its own option.
As for my question, I don't think I understand how mana cost searches are supposed to work. If I'm interpreting it correctly, mana<=RG should return everything that can be paid for with RG. However, it only returns cards costing 0, R, G, RG, or {R/G} - nothing costing 1, or 2, or 1G, or {B/G}, etc. Is this in fact broken, or am I just misinterpreting how it's supposed to work? If it's the latter, I definitely recommend adding a "can be paid for with" search (if that's feasible of course).
And similarly it's really not clear why mana=RG should return things with hybrid costs... they're really not equal to RG... a cost of {R/G}{R/G} is strictly less than RG. It seems as if "mana=RG" is being interpreted as "can be paid for with RG, has CMC 2, and is not colorless", which really isn't the same thing at all.
