On August 9, Takaratomy officially opened a Magic: The Gathering Bar in Tokyo. The project is a collaboration with a shop known as Oz Cafe, lasting until September 8. Special events during the month include a Lorwyn preview and an autograph session with Daren Bader.
The store's press reception on the 9th featured an appearance by celebrity Yukie Kawamura. Two hours later, the opening event kicked off. The first 32 customers received a free set of booster packs (from the Time Spiral block) for the purpose of a booster draft. Pro players Tomoharu Saito and Kenji Tsumura were also at the shop for a special gunslinger (single-round elimination) tournament (draft and sealed), and prizes were awarded to those who defeated the pros.
A Lorwyn preview will take place on the 22nd, when the shop changes its art displays to reflect the new expansion set.
On the 30th, artist Daren Bader will be at the shop for an autograph session from 7-9pm. On the same day, the bar will also have exclusive previews of cards from Lorwyn.
A "final event" will be held on the bar's closing day, September 8.
Wednesdays and Thursdays (except 8/22 and 8/30) are Magic Nights. Thursdays are sealed deck events.
The bar's menu includes drinks with Magic-related names, such as Mind Bend and Icy Manipulator. The food follows the same theme: you can feast on items such as Shivan Dragon and Rampant Growth.
Oz Cafe is located in Nishi-Azabu in Tokyo's Minato ward. Unfortunately, the bar has an age minimum of 20.
More details can be found on Takaratomy's web site (in Japanese). The site includes a free drink coupon.

It's something that cafes and other shops occasionally do - they run a "theme" for a limited amount of time, and then they revert back to being the normal shop. So Oz Cafe is becoming the M:tG Bar for a month, and then after that, it will again be the original Oz Cafe.
And since it's just a temporary theme, it also means a limited menu. I forgot to say so in the article, but there are only 4 different drinks and 4 food items on the Magic-themed menu.
A bar that plays magic and serves drinks named after magic. Thats pretty awesome.
Anybody remember Dalmutti's? Hahaha. The WotC game center was easily the greatest achievement in gaming, ever. It was the equivilent of the Colloseum. That place was a creation to marvel at.
This MTG Bar is probably really cool, but I doubt it'll hold a stick to what the WotC Tournament Center pulled off.
Wow. I wish I lived in Tokyo and were of legal drinking age.
Mind Bend, by the way, is a great name for a cocktail. So is Mind Twist. And let's not forget every card with Zombie in its name, which could be a variant on the regular zombie (cocktail).

So is Icy Manipulator, when you think about it
The food, on the other hand, sounds awful. "One shivan dragon?" Or even Rampant Growth?! And...I think it sounds quite silly to speak those names. "I take a Mind Bend."
...No
Funny idea though...

Where do they get meat cleavers sharp enough to cut dragon flesh, anyway? Is there a company that makes darksteel cutlery?
Icy Manipulator sounds like vodka and absinthe with extra rocks.
Ladies and gentlemen, Dengeki Online presents one of the members of this year's Japanese national team:
yeah, dat does sound innovative and i hope the food does taste good. those japanese perps... i wonder what they'll think of next? M:TG salon? id like a trendy gerrard haircut? or a bald-ish finish like karn's...
(M:tG) It's a hobby which costs money. You can't play golf without the right clubs and a membership for the golf court, you can't play paintball with a cardboard armor and a sling, you can't go to the movies without paying for a ticket and you can't play Magic without owning the cards. Simple as that.
a buddy of mine is going to be going to japan this month!!! hopefully they have cards there, as he will be looking for some japanese foils for me (empty the warrens goes cheap there, dont forget ^^)
Looking to try out a new card site, but need an incentive? Want to buy 2 NM Hallowed Fountains for less than $13 shipped? Send me your email in a PM and I can get you a coupon for $5 off of your first order of $10 or more at cardtitan.com!
Yet another reason i wish i was in Japan instead of China all the time. Why fate why!!!!!
It does look cool lol but trying to read japanese with a fluent knowledge of chinese is hard, all the characters have meaning, but almost all meanings are universally wrong

Homebrew is creating Magic.
Are you a pilot or a creator??
Looks like a really nice place to hang out on a friday night, have some drinks & play FNM at the same time ...(drunk players making wrong plays..lol)
The dishes look kinda arty-weird though... Rampant Growth really looks like a rampant salad, and Shivan Dragon just looks.. weird.
Fun times, could run fnm and all from a resturaunt.
It does look cool lol but trying to read japanese with a fluent knowledge of chinese is hard, all the characters have meaning, but almost all meanings are universally wrong
... a magic themed restaurant would be cool tho, just dont serve food with undead names..
