Our tireless editorial crew has selected five articles printed last month to be available for you to vote on for the June Article of the Month! The winners will receive exciting cash prizes through PayPal and store credit from www.RancoredElf.com.
Our first-place winner will receive $75 (funds sent by PayPal), and our second-place winner will receive $25 by PayPal and $25 in store credit from www.RancoredElf.com. Winners who can't receive payment to a PayPal account may receive RE.com store credit instead.
The nominees are (alphabetical by article title, ignoring column titles)...
1) Advanced Design: Emphasis and De-Emphasis, by Shylo Elliott
Mirrodin was so crammed full of artifacts that no one could miss the theme, and Mercadian Masques lacked a coherent theme. Find the happy middle ground for your custom set with this article.
2) Cranial Insertion: All Standard, All The Time, by Tom Fowler
Okay, so everyone is all excited about block constructed. And the Standard cardpool will be entirely different in a week. But these questions will still matter, since Tom sneakily avoided rotating cards!
3) Conditionality and the If-Meter, by Nathan Fealko
Everyone knows you need to evaluate which cards to put in your deck. You can do this with a nebulous "I like that card" process, or you can use a series of scientific tests of a card's merit. If you're cool enough for the latter, this article helps.
4) Elder Dragon Highlander: There Can be Only One Hundred, by The Aardvark
What do you do after you play twelve hours of a tournament? Play another twelve hours of EDH! An awesome format for multiplayer groups where you don't want to play the same game over and over.
5) The Flashy Play: Give my Regards to Ghostway, by Frank Shaskus
Ever since its inception, morph has served as a beacon, shouting into the night: "Find a way to turn me face up without paying my cost!" Then they went and printed Ghostway, and there was much giggling in manic glee.
Go back and read 'em again! You'll find them entertaining the second time, I hope, and it will refresh your memory for better voting. I must stress: Please do not vote unless you have read all five of these articles.
ALSO NOTE: Accounts with zero posts are not allowed to vote. With the new higher prize payouts, this rule will be very strictly enforced.
You have a week from this posting to vote.

I would like to express my disappointment that my article, Errata Havoc, was not nominated this month, in spite of receiving an overwhelming number of replies (57, second most this month of any article) and views (2,000, most this month of any article). I'll leave it up to the community to decide if this merits further discussion.

I found it odd as well. I am not going to say whether it's more deserving than any of the other choices, but I certainly felt it was going to be an option when the vote started, since I thought it was a very good article overall.

I thought your article was very good, but I don't think its absence from the list is completely unacceptable - although I'd have rated it in the top five, different people value different articles. It was a strong month.
Another problem is the issue of article subject vs article content vs article quality. Some readers just want to see good writing. Other readers won't care at all about any article relevant only to a format they don't play. Still other readers will find no value in articles the real substance of which they have already encountered elsewhere. None of these readers is "wrong" as such. The site - and by extension AotM - needs to cater to all of them.
Not making the judges' selection for a month doesn't mean your article wasn't valued. I still plan to write followups to my June article despite getting only 1/6 of the feedback you did (and not making the shortlist). Because I know from experience that this site has a large silent readership, who are ultimately the people we write for in the first place.
[Disclaimer: I have no involvement in the AotM selection process other than the same public vote everyone gets.]

It was certainly a good article. However, it wasn't in the top five nominated. The four editors and Lesurgo all list what they thought were the four best articles of the month. The five with most "votes" make this poll. We had some good articles this month, as we usually do, and while it's unfortunate that there are quality articles which don't get nominated, that's going to happen as long as we keep our article quality high.
Well, I voted for the EDH article because, it provided good information on the format, it is interesting to all magic players as you do not need a large amount of skill to play or a large amount of money, and i felt it was a very well written article

I used to write for MTGS, including Cranial Insertion and cube articles. Good on you if you can find those after the upgrade.
