As usual, the French magazine Lotus Noir is the first to bring a preview of an upcoming set. The people at the Rumor Mill have worked out a the translation of the cards. It is clear that the supertype change from Snow-Covered Land to Snow Land has large implications. Among the cards revealed there are a Snow Enchantment and a Snow Creature. Returning mechanics are 'Cumulative Upkeep', 'Burst' and 'Pitch'
It seems that Snow Permanents may be played normally, but will have additional effects if Snow Mana is used. This Snow Mana is represented by a new mana-symbol. Snow Mana may be obtained from Snow Lands, like a snow-covered Island. As the Snow-Covered lands (Plain, Island, Swamp, Mountain and Forest) are Basic Snow Lands, you can put as much in your deck as you want, which should make these Snow Permanents playable.
It should be noted that the Snow Mana may come from any land, as long as it is a Snow Land. For example: one can pay the cumulative upkeep of the white 'Glacial Plating' with a Basic Snow Land - Swamp, but not with a "traditional" Basic Land - Plains.
These are the cards (remember that they are translations, names and wording are not definitive):
Glacial Plating? - :2mana::symw::symw:
Snow Enchantment - Aura
Enchant creature (U)
Cumulative upkeep: One snow mana ( At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on this permanent, then sacrifice it unless you pay its upkeep cost for each age counter on it. Snow Mana can be paid with mana from a Snow Permanent)
Enchanted creature gets +3/+3 for each age counter on ~.
Illus : Brian Desplain
7/155
Jötun Owl-Keeper? - :2mana::symw:
Creature - Giant (U)
Cumulative Upkeep: or
When Jötun Owl-Keeper is put into a graveyard from play, put a 1/1 white bird token with flying into play for each age counter on Jötun Owl-Keeper. (At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on this permanent, then sacrifice it unless you pay its upkeep cost for each age counter on it.

Illus : Dave Dorman
9/155
Commandeer? - :5mana::symu::symu:
Instant (R)
You may remove two blue cards in your hand from the game instead of playing Commandeer 's mana cost. Gain control of target non-creature spell. You may choose new targets for that spell. (If it is an enchantment or artifact, it comes into play under your control)
Illus :John Matson
29/155
Feast of Flesh -
Sorcery (C)
Feast of Flesh deals X damage to target creature and you gain X life, where X is 1 plus the number of cards named Feast of Flesh in all graveyards. "To starve an army that feeds on its enemies is an excellent strategy"

Illus : Volkan Baga

Illus : Ralph Horsley
92/155
Hibernation’s End? - :4mana::symg:
Enchantment (R)
Cumulative Upkeep:
Whenever you pay Hibernation’s End 's cumulative upkeep, you may search your library for a creature card with a converted mana cost equal to the number of age counters on Hibernation’s End and put it into play. If you do, shuffle you library afterwards.
Illus : Steven Belledin
110/165
Diamond Faerie - :2mana::symg::symw::symu:
Snow Creature- Faerie (R)
Flying
& one Snow Mana: Snow Creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn ((Snow Mana can be paid with mana from a Snow Permanent)

Basic Snow Land: Island (C?)

Evidently hybrid mana didn't confuse everyone as much as Wizards feared it might.

This ought to be interesting and add some new flavor to the game especially since snow covered lands will be essentially always better than regular lands and at least as good as the Champions of Kamigawa legendary lands which will be fun to say the least.
Is there only going to be "snow-covered mana" e.g. colorless or can be used as any color, or will there be "snow-covered WUBRG". but if you wanted to just call it "the closest thing WotC will ever print to a sixth color," that's cool too.
therefore snow=puce! OMG!
Due to an ovewhelming number of female inquiries (in an MTG forum, one is overwhelming), i am inclined to let people know that i am in a committed relationship.
Like how you'll have a land that is Tap to add 1 or B to your mana pool.
...if this is the case i can see a creature such as...
Snow Covered Mastadon 3U
Creature - Mammoth
If ~ was played using Snow Mana, It gains trample permanently.

So, sort of like a new kind of colorless mana. But then of course it could work in a completely differant fashion, so I guess I'll have to wait to find out.
Are you sure the new snow-covered lands or "snow lands" are going to have a new mana symbol? Because i noted that the mana symbol is the same while looking at the Coldsnap FatPack, it shows a Snow-Covered Island. I dont know what the link is, but ill look it up, if you could get back to me i'd appreciate that
there it is, the mana symbol is the same, but it does have the snow land type i have noticed.
and they are still the traditional Snow-Covered [insert basic land type name here] lands.
i do see what you mean, just needs clarified a little bit, thats all, thanks:p
I know a little french from high school and I can plainly make out that cuminative upkeep has made a comeback.
also the use of the word meaning snow or snow covered neigeux
in the card types of an enchantment creature and the land intrigues me. Appearantly there are snow covered creatures and snow covered enchantments in addition to the well known snow covered lands.
The thing that worries me is that the type of the land seems to be snow covered land and not basic, so not only could it be that you can't use the old ones but you might only be able to use 4. but of course i'm not sure on that as I'm not a french expert.
**Ok I don't know what you guys think requistion does but I'm pretty sure it gains control of target non-creature permanent and yo can discard cards instead of paying it's mana cost. ...or something like that. (dunno where the redirect thing came from)
****O and the symbol is definatly 1 snow covered mana. They have it in words higher on the webpage and it's worded as "un" 1 or a "mana" there's no french word for mana "neigeux" snow-covered.
P.S. are these cards translated any where? cause I don't wanna waste my time translating them if they already are

Yes, there is a symbol to designate snow mana, but the lands themselves show a normal colored mana.
It is just an additional rule, much like how hybrid mana doesn't appear on duals.

From looking at the scans of the french cards, the snow mana symbols appear on the cards where the snow mana is USED, and have reminder text similar to hybrid mana reminder text. What is important to note is that the cards specifically say that snow mana can be paid with mana produced by any snow PERMANENT, which means that there are likely non-land cards that produce snow mana, for example something along the lines of:
Lame Snow Elf
G
Snow Creature - Elf
T: add G to your mana pool.
1/1
According to the snow mana wording, since this is mana produced by a snow permanent, it can be used to pay snow mana costs.
I'm doubtful they'd add a new mana symbol.
It doesn't seem necessary with the wording that is evident.
I mean, they just had the ultimate reason/opportunity to use the new guildmana symbols, and chose instead to do the rather awkward little half/half hybrid symbol.
It would be surprising if they turned around and now use a new symbol when it isn't necessary and they don't have these ten lovely symbols to utilize....

It's a madly brilliant concept, but I worry that it sets a poor precedent. Hybrid mana was a whole new thing, sure, but it combined the two existing mana symbols in a funky-looking and slighty larger symbol.
These, I mean... it seems like something from an un-set. What if there's a day when irregular mana symbols on cards are the norm and not the exception?
