I wonder if he will state exactly what was supposed to be the "illegal means" of obtaining the intellectual property? I don't see the harm in letting everyone sort out just what the hell actually happened.
So far, all we have is:
Quote from MaRo »
I am not ignoring you. I am not trying to dismiss any issues you have. I simply at this point in time am unable to talk about it. When I can, I will. Until then, you have to respect the fact that I'm not always able to share everything.
I'm glad that he is finally saying his piece. I feel that in the heat of the lawsuit the line between WOTC and their lawers became blurred in many peoples heads.

"Schindler and I are like peas in a pod. We both own factories and we both made weapons for the Nazis, except mine worked damn it." -Mr. Burns-
Randy: The pressure was on, but as I said before, I have plenty of confidence in the design team. They made sure to not allow anything to sneak through.
After hearing this, I'm almost certain we're going to get something horribly broken.
That was an amazing interview, on a lot of fronts. Well reasoned, analyzed questions that almost got Randy Buehler to trip up and say something he should not have said about Coldsnap, while still gathering incredibly useful information.
Get that man a job as a full-on journalist!
Key point: Wizards wants to print 4 sets a year, and include them in Standard, but they are testing the market as we speak to see if the Magic community will "buy" into this new policy. If anyone does NOT want 4 sets a year, now is the time to make your voice heard by NOT buying any Coldsnap.
Also, 'grats to Randy Buehler on his honesty and forthright answers. After the whole mess with RE, I was hoping for a rather large explanation on the part of Wizards, and Buehler did an excellent job representing Wizards of the Coast in this interview. I really look forward to hearing from Mark Rosewater about this, and I'm confident that Rosewater's response will be as illuminating as possible with all of the lawyers hovering over his shoulder. Kudos to MaRo for making sure he is the voice of this as well, as I don't think the Magic community at large would have wanted to hear it from anyone else.
I hope MaRo's address is next week, and I'm sure it will be one of the most heavily discussed topics on Magic ever. Although, maybe I am getting my hopes up a little too much...
on a side-thought
hmm, something like Ravnica.
Azorius = people who are the lawyers.
Orzhov = Wizards and Hasbro.
Maro = Person who is forecasting his thoughts.
lol
just an analogy.
no offense taken.
Maro's statement will hopefully enlighten the entire Magic community to what the R_E suit means to the magic community going forward, something that isn't entirely clear to everyone at this point.
I am glad he is able to be the speaker for this though. He, if anyone, should be the one to do it.

Nice interview, and even nicer to know they'll be speaking on the matter. Although I have a feeling whatever they say I still won't agree with their move.
Here's hoping they will discuss the terms of the settlement (probably not going to happen since RE can't...). It is still nice to have an official closure of the issue sent out the the magic community at large. It probably won't say much other than the issue is resolved, WotC != lawyers, and this is for the greater good/intergrity of the game.

I am looking for Date Stamped promos from Khans of Tarkir block so I can finish my set. Check my wants if you have any.

"its wrong to be flanking wizards of the coast looking for spoilers for sets that are more than a year from release. its our property and although we know the fans are rabid for more cards and new things to see, we dont want this situation to morph into anything out of control."
But i still like to know why they think it was justified to sue him for things he clearly didn't do himself. (I don't know about United States law, so maybe it's normal there.)
I'm waiting...
This is exactly what I mean. Posting info on a website is legal. There must be some part of the story we haven't heard (these elusive "illegal means"), and MaRo, as always, is ready to vindicate himself (as the token WotC rep).
Wizards ought never be at the beck and call of their lawyers. No one should be. Legal service ought to be a service, not a command. The lawyers of Hasbro (on the other hand) are a whole 'nother story.
If Wizards truly wanted to release the information about how the lawsuit worked and why it was done, Hasbro would have to stop them, not themselves. The legal dept. still has to answer to the head of the company, even if they are bloodsucking lawyers.

I'm pretty sure the purpose of consulting with the lawyers would be so that Maro doesn't say anything that might mess with the legal outcome of the trial.

A statement in this manner would cause vomiting because it's horridly written, then more vomiting because of the veiled reference to Time Spiral being loaded with lame mechanics.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
For a start, won't it drastically speed up the rotation in standard?
I doubt they would do it that way... WotC likes the initial big set of a block in mid-fall because that is a peak time for new stuff being right at the start of the holiday season. They could do this with any set, but the big set is going to make them the most money. Either we are going to see a fourth unrelated set a year, a la Coldsnap this year, or we are going to see four sets in a block. This is potentially more exciting because one of my favorite things about block format (Ravnica aside) is the way that mechanics in the first set are still utilized in different ways in the last set, this would give them more room for mechanics that interact with each other. I think this could be a good thing.
No, your idiotic reply is ridiculous. His point is that it's becoming more and more commercialised. As in "Trying to make yet more money no matter what" as in "there's a point where it gets to be too much". 4 sets a year is a bad thing, in my opinion. For various reasons it'll be a bad thing. For a start, won't it drastically speed up the rotation in standard?
So, basically, the point is they're trying to make money at the expense of the game. Clear, or want to throw in more childish sarcasm?
The point of a business is to make money. Hasbro is a business. I don't see what's so hard to understand.
They can make more crappy cards (not that they are all crappy, just that many, MANY recent cards have been) and make fewer new mechanics that may be exciting.
I haven't noticed any recent change in the amount of bad cards. They have always been there, and a lot of "bad" cards are mysteriously 1st picks in Limited. Wizards is focusing more on Limited in a block that has special problems (Ravnica's uneven color distribution), so there may be a lot of commons and a few uncommons that seem unplayable in Constructed, but when has that not been the case?

Breaking NDAs or posting information given from someone who is breaking an NDA is 'illegal means'.
