Various sources, ranging from our own resident rumor-getter R_E, to Scrye magazine and more, have brought in quite a few new cards in the last two days. One of these cards is a new counterspell which appears to have very much been inspired by a staple counterspell, Force of Will:
Disrupting Shoal XUU
Instant—Arcane (Rare)
You may remove a blue card in your hand with converted mana cost X from the game rather than pay Disrupting Shoal's mana cost.
Counter target spell if its converted mana cost is X.
Also listed is a Blazing Shoal, leaving people to speculate the Shoals are one of what appears to be many cycles in Betrayers. Another card revealed of note, is a new creature with the Winter Orb ability on it:
Hokori, Dust Drinker - 2WW
Legendary Creature - Spirit (Rare)
Lands don't untap during their controller's untap steps.
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player untaps a land he or she controls.

i want that hokori card LOL that kicks ! best ability ever!
The blue shoal seems real good, its better than rethink because it has the option of removing acard and it can be any card with the converted mana cost not just a blue card so it can be not as selective as force of will in some ways and look at the mana curve in most decks sure it can't get t & n but it can impede any regular deck, extended its gonna be great i dunno about t2 though.
the red shoal is amazing its like a free fireball if you need it, and free fireballs are great think about the red shoal in T&N....just gross. and big red with its fairly large amount of attackers, u can discard an arcslogger for five damage, thats good stuff.

1.
2. Read the card.
3. It's either Spellblast or a one time Hishoka only you must remove a blue card and it has to share the cost... and we all know how much standard play that guy got!
Conclusion: This is the farthest thing to FoW humanly possible in a pitch counter.
The red pitch could really do some good in Obliterate-wanting decks. After you Obliterate thier stuff and you have your 3/3 indestructable Ignot, you pitch another Obliterate and WHAM, their down to like... 2 or something. This could go in Big Red, there just aren't that many high-cost spells you'd WANT to pitch (unless it's like... turn 4 and pitching it will win you the game).
I'd like to know what the fabled White and Black ones do... if the black one reanimates, like the 'fake' one says, what's everyone's verdict on it?
LOL, I went nuts when I first saw the blue shoal, I had read it as "unless they pay X". This led me to the immidiate response of going insane and drooling. Then I read a post calling it crap, reread it, and felt like someone tore out my spleen. So much for good blue....

I think that the blue shoal is just Wizard's Way of saying, "look, we can reprint FoW and it isn't too broken, but it is not nearly as good. Maybe if it reomved any card in hand . . .
I really like winter orb, and I really like Hokori. 'nuff said.

SAME!
OMG!
Of course, i read it like 3 times before i figured out that the ppl calling it useless wernt just morons.
Scyre is Leaking to you and therfore us? Awesome! The FoW will make the Mono-Blue deck really good! And the winter orb will make WW better, I think. I like these cards and it shows that wizards is trying to correct ther emistakes. I hope it turns out alright, the last time they tried this we go lotus Petals!
Blagh... I misread the Blue shoal as well. I knew it was Spell Blast-style, but I thought it was X or less. This will make it much more limited in scope.
Ah well, FoW-level would probably screw up Extended anyway. Le sigh.
Hm, I read "counter target spell if its converted mana cost is X" as "counter target spell with converted mana cost X or less", which would be a big difference... It wouldn't even make it "a new FoW", rather "a blue CotV instant".
good card? Sry, but the blue shoal sucks. Hardcast the shoal sucks - A Hinder or Condesced would be in the most cases better here.
The alternate casting costs sucks too - First of all, you make carddisadvantage. Ok, that makes FoW too. But lets look. Say we play the Blue shoal in UG control :
The cards u want counter are in turn 2 : Ravager, Plating, Shortfang, maybe thoughtcast.
Ok, u play 2cc spells - But what u remove now? Mana leak? Truth? (normal your only 2 blue spells with 2cc) If you can't play Mana leak, wich Spell do you remove? Do you counter a Ravager? The only card that is that disadvantage worth is the shortfang - otherwise I would think twice to counter a Ravager.
Thoughtcast is only counterable with Meloku - and you have maximum 2 copys of it in your Deck - so you can't counter thoughtcast with blue shoal.
Of course, these cards are not the only cards you want counter - there is, for example, Death cloud, Kokusho and Tooth and nail.
Kokusho and TnN are uncounterable with the alternate casting cost - And I hardly believe that you have 9 mana when your opponent has 9 mana to cast TnN.
In GB, your opponent will have more mana too so it is hard to counter Kokusho early - In the lategame maybe.
You can counter Death cloud with...ummm...Hinder? And maybe you play TfK. Not really the cards you want to remove with the shoal, and most of the time Hinder can counter Deathcloud, so you dont need the Shoal.
So, I wont play the shoal...It has much better counter in T2 (Leak, Hinder, Condescend).

Sometimes those with the most sin cast the first stones.
It's not really "original" 2headed. It's not even clever. We have seen ALOT of attempts at this... this one however is teh worst. I happen to be another one of the people that didn't read it right (thus my earlier praise) but once I got my eyes checked I see that its not really that good. Poo if you think about... blue might have been fun.

It does seem that BoK might be going a bit overboard with the semi-reprints.

A new FoW will really change the way you play. Really good for control (shabba, "stating the obvious" is my middle name).
i want that hokori card LOL that kicks ! best ability ever!
Do we really need that?

THAT IS A BLUE ABILITY!...
The least they could have done is at least name it something that doesn't sound so stupid and cheesy...
im glad about that as it will make u/g a more competablestandard deck.
