I've been playing magic for a while--I remember getting all of my initial cards by buying a booster pack and trading a Ghost Ship for what seemed like hundreds of green commons. My first deck was a pile of green cards, maybe around 200 or so. Anyway, that was a while ago...I went away from MTG after Fallen Empires and came back just in time for Ravnica.
I currently have 8 functioning decks; black features dominantly in 4 of them. I've always been a fan of black and green, and it wasn't until recently that I became a huge fan of blue and of artifacts. I hate white, but I just put together a new W/U deck that I'm not unhappy with!
So I guess I'll post some of my decks from time to time and ask for opinions/suggestions. I am 100% a casual kitchen table player, and I have no problem using "old cards" if they fit in a deck.
So, you're an exclusively casual player. You're a fan of blue, black and green. You like artifacts. You mentioned in another thread that you love discovering combos. This means that, if you haven't already, you absolutely have to try Commander (EDH). I say this a lot in introduction threads, but it's an excellent fit here. Those three colours are much better than red and white, artifacts play far more of a role than they do in regular Magic, and it's perfectly possible to build a deck that has so many combos and interactions that new, unplanned ones will appear spontaneously in the middle of a game. If you aren't already familiar with the format, check out the rules, wander by the forum and see what you make of it.
Thanks, Viperesque...I've actually just convinced some friends of mine to try EDH! I was disappointed to discover that I traded/sold Ulasht, the Hate Seed, but I just pulled a Glissa, the Traitor that I'm planning to use for EDH and for a new B/G deck. I'm not sure I'm going to go "all out" yet and start buying cards, but I must have thousands of cards that I can put in the EDH deck to try in the meantime.
You're a step ahead of me then! Glissa is a really interesting general. I almost made a deck for her, but Bosh had just been made a legal general, and while I was deliberating which one to make, a friend went ahead and made a Glissa deck. So much for that choice. I was really, really looking forward to running Viridian Longbow too!
