.The only thing that flows faster than water is fear.
Your clock isn't faster unless you "overextend into a Firespout." And Firespout was never the problem. It was that I would have "win on turn 5 hands" and they would have "win on turn 4 hands." And RG doesn't play an interactive game. The key cause of THIS decks failure is its inability to interactive w/ Valakut along the dimensions that disrupt it. For example, game 1 at the ptq vs RG Valakut:
Him: terramorphic expanse (into forest)
Me: land, arbor elf
H: mtn, explore, mtn, bolt elf
M: land, paragon
H: khalni heart expedition, forest (khe 1), rampant growth (khe 2) into mtn
M: land, vanquisher (+1 counter), warcaller (+1 counter), swing for 3
H: mtn (khe 3), primeval titan into two valakut
M: warcaller kicked (so 2 counters w/ paragon); he responds by sac'ing khe, gets 2 mtn aims 4 valakut triggers at me; I attack with team for 16. HE TAKES IT. Goes to 1. Untaps, attacks, gets two mtns.
This deck is good because it can beat these three very popular decks: Jund, Naya, and Fae (without Scion).
This deck's bad matchups are combo decks that don't bother interacting w/ the opp much: RG Valakut, Minnesota Scapeshift, new Wargate
It's also bad vs. control decks: UW control, 4cc, 5cc
The trouble is, Naya is getting obliterated left and right, so fewer people are playing it. And on the other side, UW and Valakut are on the rise. This deck was a good choice when Naya was having its heyday. The sun has set on Naya, and this deck as well.
But combo elves, on the other hand, NEVER had a day in this extended season's sun. I doubt it ever will.
Lying to ourselves isn't going to help anyone so I'll happily admit that UW and Valakut.deck are not good MU's and never will be. So lets be more productive with our post again incase people do still want to play with elves.
UW and Valakut.deck are a problems deck so what do we have in our disposal to stop them? in the mono approach we have Eldrazi Monument for UW and Leyline of Vitality for Valakut, we can also pay 4x Tectonic Edge in board to slow them down alittle as well as Vengevine.
Game one against non-removal Valakut.deck, aggro elves should be able to win, game two you'll need to get lucky with Leyline of Vitality since you can't afford to Mull, then try for a quick win with warcaller or Ezuri, Renegade Leader - regen is tech here
Against Valakut.deck you tend to want to 24+ life so they can't one-shot you, then you can slow them down futher with Tectonic Edge and sneak in a win. Its a bad match-up but win able......
UW g1 = pray that they don't sweep you turn 4 then you stand a chance, g2-g3 bring in your decktech and play the game tight (yeah I know its not great game advice, but I have resolved Eldrazi Monument g2 and just auto-win against control before - since it seem like not many elves play Eldrazi Monument in their board :p)
Your second option is to splash a colour which IMPROVES our bad MU rather then slowing us down to improve games where we should already be wining
While we can spalsh black which gives us pulse and discard back-up to just take way the troublesome removal/wincons.
I'll be playing a few more extended dailys when I get a chance, and I'll post how I go. (lucky for me my ticket and 5k tournament isn't untill Fed 19-20th so I have heaps of time to practice)
Everybody should be playing 4x land destruction in their sideboard... That's how you beat Valakut. Primal command goes a long way to slow them down as well when you can keep bouncing their lands..
I don't mean to be a jerk here, but if you haven't figured out yet that having at least SOME land destruction in any given deck in extended is important, then you're pretty far behind on things.
Death touch is key in dealing with walls and such in our early combat phases (or when we just seem to keep failing to draw our win-cons with enough mana lurking about)

I'm under the impression that in a list which run 2 non-elf spells lead the stampede would be better, I think green sun's zenith is for the combo version.
Also the:
Devoted druid instead of heritage, tap for green, untap, repeat till 6, give +3+3 and repeat.
Was about this:
Anyone who doesn't know the back up combo:
2x Heritage Druid
1x Ezuri, Renegade Leader

o ok. yea seems vastly less effective then heritage+nettle. as early ramp is actually what counts.
I think people are really misunderstanding green sun's zenith.
its not a draw spell as much as the 5th copy of every creature we are running and being the specific copy of that creature at the turn we are in need of it. the reason I am not running 4of is that it gets shuffled back into you library. and is also kitchen finks 4-6.
but maybe you are right and the draw 5 is better (it does become vastly weaker after sb). Im adamant on playing 1 or the other
if I do run the zenith Ill run more of a silver bulet sb then the one post above
I play the combo version. It is very effective. You ramp with mana dorks into a really big genesis wave and the combo usually plays it self. I usually hit gwave for 15-30. This way you need to get 3 devoted druids out, a heritage druid, and ezuri. Its much easier than what it sounds and now with GSZ its waaayyy easier.
here is how it can work
2 active devoted druids and 1 other mana source(land, llanowar, ect) and ezuri on the board.
tap both druids for mana
use their 2nd ability to untap giving them a -1/-1 counter
tap druids for mana again and your additional mana source
with 5 floating mana, activate ezuri's overrun ability giving everyone +3/+3
tap and untap devoted druids 3 more times. The pump from ezuri alows them to keep doing this with a net of G each time you do it. after every 3 activations of the devoted druids, you will activate ezuri. this is an infinite mana combo. Make and arbitrarily large number of mana, lets say a billion. Then activate ezuri a million times, untap your devoted druids one last time and attact with 3,000,000/3,000,000 trample druids.
another way to do this and the way I usually do it after a gwave.
3 devoted druids, heritage druid, and ezuri.
tap the 3 devoted druids with the heritage druid ability.
use their own ability to untap them.
tap again to make a total of 6 G.
activate ezuri and repeat.
this method makes both infinite mana and infinitely large critters, just make sure you have someone to attack with afterward.
I am 8-4 overall with this deck. I have lost to faries, jund, naya x2. I would have beat the naya decks but this was before i put removal in my sb for linvala. I have been testing with a black splash for removal of thoughtseize.

I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve. White offers many good card choices. I have never been a fan of Ranger of Eos in an elf deck, there are far better choices. There are some that I do like, here is a list with my reasoning. Path to Exile-Still the best removal in extended. Burrenton Forge-Tender- With volcanic fallout and now Slagstorm (which may be worse) you would be foolish not to. Qasali Pridemage- Enchantment/artifact removal in critter form, only drawback is that he is not an elf. Dauntless Escort Another way to make sure your guys survive...anything. Again the only drawback is non elf. leyline of sanctity- you technically don't need to splash to play this card, but it helps. Can help to slow down wargate and other valakut based decks. Its not perfect because nearly every deck will have SB hate for it, but it will help. Im not a fan of the WW needed to hard cast this. Oblivion ring- I find it hard not to use this card in any deck that has white. It answers nearly 90% of any permanents that trouble you. Runed halo- Im not a big fan of the WW as mentioned above but it still an option. Ranger of Eos- Yes he is card advantage, but most of the elves you want are not 1cc. Genesis wave is a better choice IMHO
There are several variations of elves, GR, GB, GW, and mono G. It all depends on what you perfer. I have been testing black spash with md thoughtseize and doomblade in the sb. However I still favor the mono green version. I have been pondering how to deal with Linvala, keeper of silence without using such a narrow card like plummet. So as I was searching gatherer for some options I may have over looked I stumbled upon something I had forgotten. A card that deals not only with Linvala, but nearly any critter that can cause trouble for the men of the wood. It answers Gaddock teeg, and even some of the new problems like Phyrexian revoker.
Drum roll please.......Click here to see the card
Before you get all skeptical, try it. I have tested it a few times and it seems to work.

@ manchester kid-The link worked when I tried it. Anyway the card is lignify.
@fearme-Genesis wave is amazing. Almost always cast for insane amounts. This deck builds tons of mana and what better way of using it then pouring 1/4 of your library onto the battlefield. This card wins games. 50% of the time it flops my infinite combo and wins now. And the rest of the time it fills the board to the point where either your opponent clears the board or they lose. Honestly if you dont see the advantage then im not sure what your looking at, but its not the same deck. Genesis wave was made for elves the same way glimpse was. It makes the combo more reliable in extended. Only once have I ever been disappointed by the results of g-wave, when it resulted in 3 primal command, 5 lands and a bunch of mana dorks. I still won that game because I had a second wave in my hand and cast it for 27 on the next turn which landed my combo pieces. Im sorry to rant but the more I read your comment the more it feels like trolling. Have you ever even used Genesis wave? Do you even play elves? I call shenanigans on you sir! SHENANIGANS!!!!!

Honestly, I thought I was in the Legacy forum.
But still, without the mass of untap effects and 0-mana tutors that Elves get in Legacy, how can Wave be the bee's knees as you claim it to be?
Anyway, Talara's Battalion is a great aggressive option and shouldn't be overlooked in a more aggro-oriented list.
I'm still under the impression that for the non-combo elf decks lead the stampede is the better option.
IMO Green sun's zenith is ideal for the combo version, but for the more aggressive version finding a singleton elf isn't really going to help you much unless your already winning - since it not like a single elf can do anything by itself.
lead the stampede however can save us post sweep, or find us that right combination of elves which we need to win.

Yes, version I play is the combo version and defiantly plays different that an all out aggro version. I feel comfortable playing vs aggro for 2 reasons, 1) I have enough of experience with this combo to know what hands to keep. 2) aggro cannot win as fast as I can. I have not tested GSZ. I would take out G-wave if I do. G-wave only works if you have permanents to put in play.
Teeg is a bad I idea. Read the card. Once he is in play that is the last GSZ, or primal command or gwave you will be playing. and a bad top deck. Doran is also bad, I would rather get ezuri or chameleon colossus. The name of the deck is Elves. While a few non elves do show up occasionally, when you put the likes of KoTR and Doran in you lose the synergy that the deck creates. You are then just another aggro deck. If you want to use Doran, then play the Doran deck. If you want to use KoTR then play Naya. Both are good decks and have better card choices than elves. The reason I play elves is because of the speed and the insane amount of interaction the deck has with itself. Adding non-elf aggro cards only takes away from the strength of this deck in either version, combo or aggro. How do I know this? Well first of all I use common sense, secondly because I have tried both versions and tested many different cards in each. When I post something its because I have tested it, not because I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. The only non-elf I can see making its way into the MD is vengevine. He does make to deck much more resilient after a board sweep, but I felt he was too slow for the combo version.

Hey guys I'm new here, I'm playing Elves on Type 2 (Genesis Wave Elves) and Commander (Ezuri, Renegade Leader), and I want to make the Extended deck one. Any of you would like to tell me what's the latest or greatest deck lately or something won in tournament, and what kind of play/combo will it do? Thanks a lot!
Looks like no one has mentioned Travis Woos combo elves list from channelfireball.
I built the deck and love it. The only issue I have with it is it feels a little inconsistent. Your game plan G1 is to combo off with Joraga Treespeaker + Devoted Druid + Ezuri, Renegade Leader.
Also it's pretty humerous, but Heritage Druid was under performing for me. Im going to try out Elvish Harbinger in its place. In theory, it makes the deck more consistent. It also keeps the druid count the same and becomes Chameleon Colossus 5-7 against Jund.
2/2/11 - Goldfishing showed me Twilight Mires were pretty lackluster for what I needed them for, and Heritage Druid is a lot better than you'd assume, even without Nettle Sentinels. Upped the Heritage Druid count to 3; now I need to test against the gauntlet and see if the black splash or straight green is better.
3/2/11 - I decided that the old version was just too slow to be relevant, so I'm going to move all-in on combo. Will see how goldfishing turns out..
I personally don't think Genesis Wave is needed in these types of decks. In the match-ups you want it, your already winning (Other Aggro Decks). In the match-ups you don't, your creatures are getting wiped out (Control Decks) so you won't hit a good number. It also makes the deck less consistent.
Primal Command is just a better option in every way. It helps you stay ahead by putting lands on your opponents library, while tutoring out a Chameleon Colossus against Jund, Joraga Warcaller against Elves and Naya, Ezuri when you get a combo going or just need to overrun for the win, or any other type of creature you may possibly need in your situation.
Genesis wave is a "Win-More" with less consistency. If your playing with it, I suggest giving Primal Command a shot as it is just unreal.
from testing lead the stampede is soooooooo sick in the elf warrior build.
Iv never gotten under 3 creatures draw off it and gotten 5 cards alot. I was running green sun's zenith in its place but It just doesnt seem as relevant in this build as all your creatures are relvent to the game plan (keep swinging) unlike the combo elves (still very good) where each creature is powerfull at certain points of the game
It's not particular combo but it has the elements. It can win simply by overrunning with dudes, pulling up an unstopable force depending on what you are facing (colossus, revenge, thresher), or just ping away for turns at a time while you time walk their lands with primal.
Some of the more gross things i have done with this deck are t1 land, Nettle sentinel followed by t2 land attack, heritage, lanowar, tap 3 sentinel, lanowar, lead the stamped into 4 new elves.
Part of me wants to run Talara's Battalion instead of some of the bigger guys just to try and lay pressure down as early as possible, but im unsure what i would cut.
I also did away with the infinite ezuri. It always felt like too much effort to pull off.
if you are going to play toolbox lists - ga's revange -1 cloudthresher - 1 sylvan ranger -1 chamelion colossos +4 green sun's zenith (as thewse cards are for the better paret sb cards, tho colossos could go md)
- prowess of the fair looks sick!! still probably sb but the tribal lands +1 of filter land as it can be used with mana from elves and 1 verdant xcatacombs and 1 murmoring bosk as its a swamp and a forest

Since I don't own Vengevines online, I have Great Sable Stag in its place in the board.

For those who are curious for when MB is legal, I would cut all Heritage Druids/Elvish Harbingers and 1 Ezuri for 4 Green Sun's Zenith.
Meh, it's just not combo enough for me without Glimpse, I'mma stick with Fae
4 Verdant Catacombs
4 Gilt-Leaf Palace
9 Forest
1 Swamp
Creatures (35)
4 Arbor Elf
4 Heritage Druid
4 Devoted Druid
4 Llanowar Elves
3 Ezuri, Renegade Leader
4 Nettle Sentinel
4 Elvish Archdruid
2 Joraga Treespeaker
2 Regal Force
3 Gilt-Leaf Archdruid
4 Green Sun's Zenith
4 Primal Command
4 Thoughtseize
1 Genesis Wave
4 Obstinate Baloth
2 Cloudthresher
4 Nature's Claim
2/2/11 - Goldfishing showed me Twilight Mires were pretty lackluster for what I needed them for, and Heritage Druid is a lot better than you'd assume, even without Nettle Sentinels. Upped the Heritage Druid count to 3; now I need to test against the gauntlet and see if the black splash or straight green is better.
3/2/11 - I decided that the old version was just too slow to be relevant, so I'm going to move all-in on combo. Will see how goldfishing turns out..
4 Primal command
4 Lanowar Elves
4 Arbor Elf
4 Elvish Archdruid
4 Heratage Druid
4 Joraga Treespeaker
4 Nettle Sentinel
2 Elvish Visionary
1 Ezuri, Renegade Leader
1 Gaea's Revenge
1 Cloudthresher
1 Joraga warcaller
1 Chameleon Colossus
1 Regal Force
1 Sylvan Ranger
